CHAPTER 188: SET IN STONE
The reason Taohua Village is called Taohua Village is naturally due to the abundance of peach trees. However, the peaches from these trees are very small and somewhat tart, not very tasty.
Most of the peaches in this orchard are still hanging, and although they can’t compare to the ones from her own space, they are quite good compared to those on the mountain.
"By the way, do you offer delivery service?" Gu Nian asked.
The boy pursed his lips, "We do deliver, but only for large orders; smaller ones have to be picked up by yourself."
Gu Nian nodded, and after inquiring about the prices, she placed an order directly, "Then I’ll take 50 peach trees, 50 pear trees, 100 jujube trees, and 50 cherry trees. I need them to be just about to start bearing fruit. Deliver them to Lin Sanshui’s house in the southern part of Taohua Village; just ask around and you’ll find it."
Upon hearing Gu Nian’s words, the boy was stunned, "So many, did the adults in your family agree?"
He’d hate to deliver them only to find out he was being played. That would be a real loss.
The most important thing is that judging by the clothing of these two young ladies, they don’t seem to be from a wealthy family.
He’s heard of Taohua Village, of course. In April, the mountains are covered in peach blossoms, which are incredibly beautiful. But the peach trees there, probably due to the variety, don’t bear much fruit.
Moreover, he hasn’t heard of any wealthy families there either.
And when fruit trees are about to bear fruit, they are pricier than younger ones. If no one wants them after they’re dug up, replanting is no small task.
"You can rest assured, we can pay a deposit first," Gu Nian said.
The boy started to calculate, "You’re buying a lot, and you want them just about to bear fruit. I’ll charge you 40 coins per tree. That’s a total of ten taels of silver for 250 trees. You pay me three taels of silver for the deposit, and the rest when the trees are delivered."
"That works," Gu Nian nodded, pulling three taels of silver from her pocket. "We’re still clearing the land for the next couple of days, haven’t started digging holes yet. Deliver the trees in three days."
As they were about to leave the orchard, the boy wrote a receipt for the deposit he received from the young lady.
On the way, Gu Nian was in a good mood and asked Cuihua, "Cuihua, where’s your home? Do you want to visit?"
Cuihua shook her head, "My parents have that ten taels of silver now; they should be doing fine. I won’t go back."
She’s a bit naive, and her reputation in the village isn’t great, so she doesn’t want to bring trouble to her family.
Gu Nian didn’t know Cuihua’s true intention. She didn’t want to return to her own home, so what could Gu Nian say?
Returning to town took another half an hour, and Erhu had already sold everything and was waiting, all packed up.
Erhu asked how the fruit tree deal went, and she immediately replied it was settled, which startled Erhu.
When they got home, Mrs. Jiang was sitting in the courtyard with a downcast expression, clearly unhappy.
Gu Nian blinked and said, "Who has upset Mother again?"
Erhu frowned, "We came back together, didn’t we? How would I know?"
Sanhu nudged Little Hu, "Little Hu, go ask Mother what’s wrong?"
"Why should I go? Why don’t you guys go?" Little Hu was a bit reluctant; whenever there was something risky, his brothers would push him to do it.
"Are you going or not? If you don’t, you can’t come to town with us tomorrow." Sanhu threatened mercilessly.
Only then did Little Hu reluctantly nod, "I’ll go ask, I’ll go ask, okay? You’re always bullying me!"
