CHAPTER 74: CHAPTER 74: DINNER

Even if it’s really ruined, it’s no big deal. Niannian has already brought enough to their family, this won’t matter much.

Besides, without Niannian, they wouldn’t have gotten that wild boar in the first place!

Lin Shui shook his head. Since Lin Sanshui had already said so, although he disagreed, it was hard to persuade any further.

By the pond, Gu Nian was instructing Mrs. Jiang on how to clean it.

Mrs. Jiang and her sisters-in-law were used to work, and once they learned, they quickly got started with cleaning.

Where there are many people, there’s often gossip. The three began talking about a big event that happened in the village recently, concerning the village chief’s house being sold.

Gu Nian listened for a while, then squatted nearby out of boredom.

Mrs. Jiang inadvertently turned her head and saw the honest Gu Nian, saying, "Niannian, are you bored? Why don’t you go back home first?"

They had already learned how to clean the intestines, so there was no need for the child to stay.

Gu Nian immediately stood up, feeling half-liberated, "Okay, Mom, First Aunt, Second Aunt, I’ll head back then."

With that, Gu Nian left.

When Gu Nian got home, he found two strangers standing in the yard. Both were dressed in black and had a dignified posture, not looking like villagers.

Upon hearing footsteps, Wuxin and Wuming both turned around.

Gu Nian then recognized Wuming and happily ran over, "Benefactor, why are you at our home? Does your family live nearby too?"

Lin Sanshui, seeing Gu Nian familiarly chatting with them, curiously asked, "Niannian, do you know these two gentlemen?"

Gu Nian pointed at Wuming and replied, "Dad, this is the benefactor who saved me in the mountains. He was also the one who killed the wild boar."

Lin Sanshui finally showed a look of sudden realization, "So it’s this gentleman who saved my daughter. Thank you so much, young sir. We agreed on dinner, but please take these things back. You saved my daughter, it’s our honor to offer a meal to our benefactor, how could we accept your things?"

Though reluctant, Lin Sanshui picked up the money box next to him and offered it, "Benefactor, this is the money from selling the wild boar. Since it was you who killed it, this money should belong to you, please don’t disdain it."

Wuming glanced down; the box contained a scattered collection of copper coins, not even a full tael of silver.

Truth be told, he wasn’t interested.

He discreetly took two steps back, expressionless, "I don’t want it."

Those three words left everyone awkward.

Wuxin twitched a smile and explained, "He’s just like that, don’t mind him. Since the wild boar was brought back by you, it belongs to you. It’s just that our master has picky tastes, so please be attentive for dinner."

"Of course," Lin Sanshui agreed.

After Wuxin and Wuming left, Gu Nian asked Lin Sanshui, "Dad, what’s up with dinner? What’s going on?"

Lin Sanshui replied, "These two and their master just moved here today. They’re the ones who bought the village chief’s blue-brick house. Somehow, they heard about the braised pork and snails you made and, as they had no dinner plans, they found us."

As he spoke, Lin Sanshui looked at a pile of things on the side and said, "See? They even brought a lot of stuff. Niannian, you’ll have to explain how to make it tonight. Otherwise, with just your mom’s skills, I’m afraid it won’t work!"

Lin Shui and Lin Ershui both glanced at Lin Sanshui, who had made the comment.

They couldn’t understand why the third brother was so kind to an adopted child.
