When I saw his face, my eyes widened in shock.

“Morton?”

“Lady Sinclair?”

The bank manager, Morton—the same man who approved my 100 million gold loan before the world collapsed.

“This… this can’t be real. Cherry Sinclair actually survived? …Ah. My apologies.”

I understood his reaction.

Anyone who knew the old Cherry Sinclair would probably have the same response.

People must have thought that, in a crisis like this, I’d be one of the first to die.

“It looks like you survived too.”

At least I wouldn’t need to swing my axe.

But I didn’t let my guard down.

Morton, however, seemed to be thinking something entirely different.

“Lady… your clothes… there’s blood…”

His eyes scanned me from head to toe before flickering to the two unconscious men on the floor.

His face turned deathly pale.

“Just a moment ago, the entire street outside the bank was swarming with monsters. But, Lady, you just walked in through the front door… carrying both of them?”

His voice trembled, demanding an answer.

His face was twisted with raw terror—like someone who had just witnessed a murder.

“There weren’t any monsters when I arrived. And those two men… they collapsed right outside. Do you think I carried them in here?”

I lied effortlessly.

Only then did Morton breathe a sigh of relief, wiping his chest as if shaking off a nightmare.

But the suspicion in his eyes didn’t completely fade.

I studied him in return.
