CHAPTER 76: DISASTER STRIKES (3)

Luke and the others went silent. They didn’t know what to say at that moment. No words of comfort would lessen the pain and agony Adam was in right now.

They stood silent and let him grief. But just then Raguel’s voice came.

"She’s still alive."

"What!?" Luke asked out loud, as he looked at Raguel in surprise.

Adam was jolted awake, hope reignited again. with his face covered in tears and snot, he crawled to Raguel and held his hand.

"R-Really? How can I save her?"

"It’s not that simple. Their souls are entangled together somehow. I don’t know if she can be even saved." Raguel said helplessly.

"We can at least try. Don’t lose hope. There must be something that can fix this." Luke comforted Adam.

Adam wiped his tears away and stood up, steeling his mind, there was still hope as she was still alive.

"LOOK OUT!" Layla screamed out and jumped forward as she casted five layers of mana shield in front of her.

Luke and the others were taken aback and turned around when they saw a huge sphere made up of condensed wind, rushing towards them.

BOOM!!

The wind sphere struck the shield, pushing Layla back as she slid along the ground. Cracking sound came as the first shield broke into pieces and vanished into motes of light.

The second and third shield couldn’t hold and shattered too. Layla was struggling as mana was being sucked out of her, maintaining the shield.

Raguel casted two layers of mana shield behind Layla’s, sharing the pressure from the attack. Layla nodded at him and both of them focused on maintaining the shields.

The fourth shield broke too, but the wind sphere’s energy was not reduced at all. It was still going strong.

Soon, the fifth shield broke and Layla fell on her knees, Raguel was taking the whole burnt of the attack, but being a third circle, it was too much for him.

The last two shields broke and a huge blast of wind struck them, pushing them back, sliding along the ground and stopping after hitting the wall.

The wind sphere was approaching fast and was about to engulf them. Luke channeled prana into his fists and punched multiple times in the air as numerous energy blasts in the form of punches moved towards the sphere, hitting it continuously.

But it was still not enough, as it only reduced the speed a bit and expended a small amount of energy, as the sphere reduced in size, but still coming towards them with a huge force behind it.

They got helpless and braced themselves for the impact. Luke was about to use his limiter for a final struggle, but just then a beautiful woman adorned in a full body silver armor landed in front of them.

She slashed her mana covered sword continuously in lighting speed. Numerous energy slashes moved towards the sphere and cut it into multiple pieces, expending all its energy as it burst, releasing intense gusts of wind. Pushing them back as their hair flew back, fluttering in the air.

"Elder sister!" Luke was ecstatic seeing his sister. She was a fifth circle fighter mage, and the only one to at least be not useless in front of the beast.

"I told you not to leave the station. You dare venture alone and get yourself in such dangerous situations?" Anna coldly looked at Luke as she said in a fuming voice.

"I’m s-sorry elder sister. I just wanted to help."

Anna wanted to scold him more, but just then the beast roared in fury.

"We’ll talk about this later. All of you stay back. we’ll try to hold until someone capable of dealing with it arrives." Anna took position when Bren and Fred arrived beside her, ready to strike.

"I hope they arrive soon." Anna channeled mana into her sword and feet, about to rush ahead.

The beast started to run towards them when he abruptly stopped in his track. Its pupils dilated and it looked above at the ceiling.

They all were confused. Why did it stopped suddenly and ignored them, as if they were of no concern for him.

A runic circle formed in front of the Kong’s mouth and a sphere of mana started gathering.

"Stop him! it’s trying to break out." Anna roared and rushed ahead as Bren and Fred followed after her.

The Imoogi blasted a wave of fire out of its mouth. Anna stopped and pierced her sword inside the ground. Four small blue runic circles formed on her sword and a tide of water rushed out of it, clashing with the fire.

Sizzling sound spread in the room, steam gushed out from the impact as the water doused the fire from the Imoogi.

When the steam dispersed, it was too late. The kong fired the ray of energy sphere upwards towards the ceiling.

When the energy blast hit the ceiling, it jolted the underground hall with intense vibrations as huge stones and gallons of water fell down.

"Elder sister!" Luke and Layla screamed out as the stones and water fell right where Anna and the others were.

A huge hole formed on the ceiling. The dark night sky was now visible from down below. The Kong roared and jumped up, swinging along the rocks jutting out.

He climbed up the hole fast and landed on the ground above with a thud as the river water splashed from the impact.

RROOOAARRR!!!!!

He ran towards the city in huge steps as the sound of his footsteps seemed more distant with every second to Luke and the others below.

Slowly the dust cleared, some huge rocks that stood vertical fell down, revealing Anna and the other two under a dome of transparent mana shield.

Seeing them alright, Luke and the others rushed with relief on their faces.

"I don’t know why, but it’s targeting the city. Layla come with me, and the others will evacuate the people from the city as fast as you can. We don’t have much time left, let’s rush, or there’ll be nothing to save." Anna said in a serious voice.

The others nodded and moved immediately, Luke held Adam and jumped up, with prana covering his hands and feet he jumped out with the rocks jutting out as platforms, while Anna and the others levitated out and rushed to the city as fast as they could.

Inside the lab, it was a scene of massacre, bodies were lying everywhere. Some were dried up like zombies, some split into two with intestines spread out and lying in pools of blood.

Jekyll, on his last breaths was lying beside the broken glass tube, half his body below the waist gone, but he was laughing with a locket fitted with a tear shaped black mana stone in his hand.

"Hehehe...r-rain u-upon d-destruction...o-on th-his l-land...h-hail t-the end-less n-night....." he let out his final breath as the locket fell from his hand and the mana stone crumbled into dust.

"W-where the h-hell are they?" Shane gasped for breath as he finally arrived when everybody had already left.

"I think they moved up through that hole." Ruby said.

"FUCK!"
