The Martial Mage
Chapter 79: I’ll free her myself
CHAPTER 79: I’LL FREE HER MYSELF
"Kill me. Let me die. Kill me. Kill me. Kill me. Kill me. Kill me. Kill me. Kill me. Kill me. Kill me. Kill me. Kill me......."
"STOP!! Please...stop." Tears flowed out of Adam’s eyes, he slumped down on the ground whimpering in grief and pain as Raguel removed his hand.
"Why...why did you made me hear this..."
Raguel sighed, he kept his silence. He knew he couldn’t understand what Adam was going through, but he had to show him the truth, the pain his wife was in, her pleading of wanting to be liberated.
Silence stretched between the two of them, as Adam kept weeping.
"If that’s what she wants...I’ll free her myself." Adam wiped his tears and looked up towards his wife’s stoic face buried inside that beast.
He picked up the sword Layla had given him and with resolve, stood up, tightening his grip on the sword hilt.
"May goddess Irene bless her soul and take her under her care." Raguel joined his hands and prayed as the sword started glowing with a golden sheen.
On the other hand, Luke and the others were struggling with the beast. A fireball hit Noah as he blasted off to the distance and laid flat on the ground. His shield and armor took most of the damage, or else he could have been heavily injured.
Bren was lying unconscious, his shield broken in half, unable to endure the constant slashes from the wind spheres. Anna was on her knees, supporting herself from falling down with her sword. her mana was all drained. She couldn’t even move a muscle now.
Luke was fighting alone, evading the Imoogi’s fireballs and wind spheres of the Kong while getting a hit or two in between.
It was getting more troublesome for him now, as no one was there to support him. he evaded a punch from the Kong and jumped back a bit.
"Can’t save it any more then." Luke joined his palms and gathered prana. The prana then rushed from his hands to his back; to the limiter circle.
"Limit overload."
One more limiter circle started forming in a concentric ring around the previous one, but the new one being red in color.
After the new limiter ring was formed, Luke’s body started burning up like a hot smoldering iron right out of the furnace. A few strands of his hair transformed into red fire form and the amber fire burning on his gauntlets had a tint of red in them now as they blazed bright.
"One move. Either you’re going down or I am." This was the second spell he had developed along with the eyes of revelation. But he couldn’t use it on a whim, as it had a huge requirement of prana, and lasted only for a few seconds, giving him one powerful shot with all the prana, but after that his body goes limp.
Luke balled his fist as all the fire gathered around his fist, looking like molten lava. He bent his knees, prana rushed to his feet and then, he vanished from the spot.
The Kong’s eyes opened wide as Luke suddenly appeared in front of it, a burning fist right in front of its face. It couldn’t evade in time and just slightly tilted sideways.
Luke’s fist slightly grazed the kong’s cheekbone and hitting the earlobe and went past. He thought he somehow evaded the hit, but just then half of his face along with the ear and neck region vanished, disintegrated into dust from the intense heat from Luke’s condensed fire prana.
The imoogi fired a fireball, hitting Luke right on his chest and blasting him away to the distance. He helplessly scrapped along the ground and laid flat after rolling a few times. His limiter rings vanished and hair turned to normal.
He body went limp, unable to move a muscle and the Kong fell on the ground with a loud thump after losing half of his face. The Imoogi hissed at his face, trying to wake him up, but no reaction was seen. But slowly, sizzling sounds came as the Kong started healing, bones, muscles and skin started reforming, but at a snail’s pace. It was extremely slow, contrary to how it healed its wounds previously.
Luke was now crestfallen, he wanted to blast its head off so that it couldn’t recover, but it seemed that Raguel was right, killing one alone was not sufficient.
Just then Luke saw Adam pass by him in slow steps, radiating out green mana like flames dancing all over his body.
"N-No...A-Adam you..." Luke tried lifting his arm up to stop Adam.
Adam paused his footsteps, looked back at Luke and with a wide smile on his face bowed at him.
"Thank you." He turned around and moved again, his pace fast as suddenly he vanished from the spot.
Everybody thought Adam was using all of his mana and taking a last leap to finish the beast and save his wife, but Luke knew the truth, that green fire on his body was not mana, but prana. Adam was using his life force, and when a human uses their life force instead of mana, they can never recover what is lost.
Adam instantly appeared over the Kong’s chest, and stood right beside his wife’s face. The Imoogi shot a wave of fire out of its mouth, seeing Adam near their main source, their weakness.
When the fire doused, a charred black body of Adam could be seen standing, not budging the slightest and the golden sword still in his hand and his body still blazing with the fire of life force.
He lifted the sword up and stabbed below, piercing right through his wife’s forehead. Blood sprayed out and fell over him. Though a sword was pierced into her forehead, her eyes were still closed, not a single change in her expression, as if she was unable of feeling anything, blood oozed out and slid sideways falling below dying the grey chest of the kong red.
The imoogi screeched and started wriggling its body intensely, tossing and turning as it slammed its head on the ground and finally stopped moving.
Adam leaned his face in front of his wife, his lips though burned and stretched tight, lifted up as he whispered softly.
"I t-Told you to c-come with me...you n-never l-listen...you and...y-your h-hot temperedness.....I’m s-sorry love...I-I couldn’t s-save you..." tears rolled down his burned skin, quenching the thirst of those burning cheeks for one last time.
"I-I don’t c-care if...I h-have to follow you to h-hell or heaven....but t-this time...I’m gonna h-hold on to you t-tight...I won’t l-leave for a second...e-even if you get f-furious on me...I love you Nina...I’ll l-love you forever...." Adam leaned forward and kissed her lips, saying his final goodbyes.
A drop of tear trickled down Nina’s face, and in that stoic face, her lips slightly lifted up as both of them took their last breaths and left this mortal realm with their lips touching each other’s and a pain etched into the hearts of the onlookers.
Luke’s lips twitched, his felt a lump in his throat as tears flowed out unknowingly. Not a single one could stop themselves from crying for such a tragedy.
PLOP! PLOP!
Rain drops fell on the ground, dousing the burning ground as well as the emotions of the ones present there. Slowly the rain drops turned into a heavy downpour as water started pooling, it felt as if like even the heavens was weeping for this tragic couple and paying respect to their love.
Luke gingerly stood up, using all the power to lift himself up and started walking towards the body of the beast. He wiped the tears off his face and clenched his fists tight, his eyes red from fury for the heretics that did such evil.
He vowed to pay them back tenfold for what they did with Adam and all the innocent lives that were lost today. but after walking a few steps, his body gave up and he fell on the ground, splashing water around and lost consciousness.
"LUKE!!" Anna screamed as she rushed towards him.
