The Martial Mage
Chapter 88: The Books of Samsara
CHAPTER 88: THE BOOKS OF SAMSARA
Ames was stumped. Though everyone knew about the story of the heroes defeating the demon, not many knew about the demon himself. But being a disciple of the headmaster, he knew who Shikami was.
"B-But...wasn’t the first demon killed by the heroes? How come you’re...are you playing with me?" Ames asked skeptically.
An intense pressure of killing intent fell on Ames. His soul form started shaking while his body levitating in the dungeon started twitching, sweat formed on his forehead as his brows creased in pain.
"You dare accuse me of lying?" Shikami said in a hoarse voice, his eyes spouting flames of fury.
The pressure was too much for Ames to handle, his soul form was on the verge of dissipating. He finally realized that this man was not lying. His simple gaze and killing intent were about to ground him to pieces; he really was the first demon, the bringer of the endless nights.
"I’ll forgive you this once." The pressure instantly vanished as he calmed himself down, relieving Ames from the pain.
"They couldn’t kill me, didn’t have the power to do so. They could only seal me after giving up their lives."
Ames was shocked at the revelation. The heroes had killed the demon at the price of their lives and protected the continent, ending the age of endless night, that’s what has been passed on from centuries. But the real fact was something else.
"We don’t have much time. maintaining your soul form takes up a lot of naraka. Tell me what you want to know." Shikami said.
Ames was brought back to his senses after he heard those words, and started asking the questions he was curious about.
"How many Chakras are there? And what is this book of samsara?"
"Don’t you have the book with you? The knowledge of the chakras is all there." Shikami asked, confused.
"The book only has knowledge of spells. The one with the chakras is not with me. Someone else holds it."
"How did you unlock it without the book then?"
"Using the mantra I saw in that other book." Ames said, but he got silence in return, as Shikami got lost in thought, and Ames waited for him to answer.
"Which volume do you have?" he asked.
"Ah...the one with a V engraved on it." Ames said.
"Hahahaha!!" Shikami laughed out loud. "I guess it is destiny then. That’s the ’book of death’, the fifth volume."
"That’s the one I used to change the chakra system to fit me. That’s the reason my conscious connected to yours, and I could speak in your mind."
"The one that holds the knowledge of the chakras, is the ’book of matter’, that’s the fist volume, and also the most important. You have to get it no matter what."
"But, why? What would I do by collecting it?" Ames asked.
"You FOOL!!" Shikami yelled, almost dissipating his soul form from the pressure. "Collecting all the volumes will make you the lord of the laws that govern this universe. You can be a God, ruling over all the realms, you would even be able to bring back the dead, create life or travel through time."
Ames was dumbfounded. He couldn’t believe the book he holds had such an immense value. Though he didn’t want to be a God, but the thing that struck him was bringing back the dead and even the power to travel through time.
"Why do you think the whole continent wanted to kill me? It’s because I had already collected four volumes. They feared I’d become a god and wipe them all out. those bastards! They took everything from me and even wanted to kill me for trying to rectify their mistakes!" Shikami said through gritted teeth. His eyes got red from the bottled fury he held inside.
"Can I bring back the ones that have died a long time ago?" Ames asked in a doubtful tone, but his eyes were hopeful for a positive answer.
"Have you lost someone dear to you?"
Ames got silent, old scars resurfaced in his mind as his face contorted remembering that pain.
"I...I want to see my mother again. S-she...she was killed in front of my eyes." Tears fell down from his eyes while they stayed close and his body floated in the air, as his soul form couldn’t shed tears but his emotions were connected and reflected in his true body.
"Yes. Nothing is impossible when you have all the volumes of the book of samsara." Shikami said with a wide grin.
"Where are the other volumes then?"
"It’s been more than seven centuries, do you think I’ll know? You have to find them yourself. One is definitely with the person you mentioned. Take that first. You know where he is right? The rest you’ll find eventually."
Ames’s face twitched. He went silent as he hesitated to answer. To Luke, he had a debt to pay. He couldn’t just steal it away from him.
Just then his soul form started shaking and turning into smoke from below.
"The time’s over. I’ll pass the knowledge of the chakras to you. Come find me here again when you reach the limiter realm."
A strand of black naraka came out from Shikami’s forehead and moved towards Ames. It passed through his forehead and assimilated inside, passing the knowledge of the chakras.
Ames slowly opened his eyes and floated back to the ground. He curled his fingers into a fist as he felt the power coursing through him.
"So I’m in the projector realm now." a smile spread on his lips.
"Can I eat that now?" Shatun pointed at the body of the scorpio as he asked.
"Go ahead." Ames said.
"What happened? You broke some limit on your cultivation threshold or what?" Lamia said teasingly.
"Do you have a contract with any spirit beast with tracking ability?"
"I do. Why?" Lamia asked, confused.
"Bring it out, I need it to track something for me."
Though she was still curious, she nodded and channeled mana into her palms. A black runic circle formed on the ground and from there a small cat with fur like the darkest night and glowing green eyes came out.
Meow!!
The cat purred as it moved close to Ames and rubbed her body against his legs.
"Tilly you traitor!" Lamia pouted and complained as the cat went to Ames instead of her.
"Is it a dark spirit beast?" Ames asked.
"Yes. Tilly is from the dark spirit realm. She has the most impressive tracking ability. She can find anything." Lamia said proudly.
Ames pulled his book of death out and moved it close to Tilly.
"Find the ones with the same energy signature." Ames said.
Tilly sniffed and licked the book. she then meowed and turned around, and after walking a few steps turned into smoke and vanished from sight.
"What is this book?" Lamia asked curiously.
"Something that can fulfill all my wishes."
