The mask of my beloved

“And one more thing. The police are currently investigating my medical incident. If it turns out I had nothing to do with it, I want you and Susanna to issue a public apology in the newspaper to clear my name. I want everyone to know the truth about what happened. I want to expose Susanna’s lies and her venomous nature. When you both publish the apology, that’s when I’ll sign the divorce papers. I believe this process won’t take long-at most, a week.”
The cold smile on Nathan’s lips deepened.
He had thought she truly wanted a divorce, but this second condition made it obvious she was being deliberate. With such solid evidence, how could the police possibly clear her name? Wasn’t this just a case of the guilty crying out for justice, deliberately creating confusion? Her real aim was to force him and Susanna to apologize publicly, to restore her reputation, as if nothing had ever happened. She wanted everything -how disgusting!
She had hurt Susanna, yet now she wanted Susanna to apologize to her in the newspaper. What a clever scheme!
“Well? Can you do it?” Vanessa stared at him intently.
Nathan let out a coldugh. “Vanessa, don’t worry. As long as the police can produce evidence proving your innocence, Susanna and I will definitely apologize to you in the newspaper. But what if the police can’t find any evidence to clear your name?”
Vanessa smiled at his words. “Don’t worry. If they can’t, then I’ll sign the divorce papers before I go to jail. I won’t drag you or the Powell family into this.”

“Good. I hope you keep your word.” Nathan looked at her, seeing her unrepentant, proud, and eager to get divorced, and he was filled with anger, blurting out the words.
“Don’t worry, I will.” Vanessa replied immediately.
The atmosphere between them was extremely tense.
“Vanny, listen to your mother, stop saying such foolish things. Our two families have been close for generations, always friendly and loving. Why talk about divorce? From now on, live well with Nathan. I believe everything will get better.” Casey held Vanessa’s hand, trying to stop her.
Vanessa’s expression was resolute: “Mom, a marriage without love is nothing but a tragedy. The sooner we end it, the sooner we’re free. It’s better for Nathan too.”
“I…” Casey suddenly burst into tears.
“Mom, don’t cry. I can still be your daughter-inw for another week. After that, I’ll be your good daughter.” Vanessa reached out to hug her, forting her softly.
“Vanessa, are you done talking?” Nathan asked, his face dark.
“I’m done.” Vanessa let go of Casey.
“Alright then,e with me to the study. I have something to ask you.” Nathan suddenly grabbed her arm and dragged her toward the study.
“Let go of me, I can walk by myself.” Vanessa shook off his arm, speaking indifferently.
She thought he must have something else to say, something he didn’t want to discuss in front of his parents.

Since they were getting divorced anyway, she didn’t mind cooperating with him.
“Nathan, whatever you have to say to Vanny, talk it out calmly. Don’t argue.” Casey, still worried, wiped her tears and reminded them from behind.
Nathan strode toward the study, his face still dark.
Vanessa followed him.
“Vanessa, let me ask you, who is he?” As soon as they entered the study, Nathan locked the door behind them, then suddenly pulled a photo from his pocket and threw it in front of Vanessa.
Vanessa picked it up and looked at it.
She thought it was something serious, but it turned out to be him!
“Nathan, what are you trying to say?” She looked coldly at the handsome man in the photo.
“First, tell me, who is he?” Nathan’s eyes were sharp and cold.
Vanessa answered truthfully: “An escort.”
“An escort? Who are you trying to fool?” Nathan sneered. “Last time, in the hospital corridor, he was holding your hand, you two were being intimate. I asked who he was, you said he was just a patient.
Yesterday, he carried you out of Susanna’s hospital room, and now you tell me he’s an escort. You don’t even bother to make your lies
convincing. Do you think I’m stupid?”
Vanessa yawned and patted her head: “So tired.”
“Be serious!” Nathan shouted angrily.

“Sigh, I’m telling the truth, but you won’t listen. What do you want me to say?” Vanessa was helpless. “Nathan, we’re about to get divorced. Who he is has nothing to do with you, right? You don’t love me anyway, is it really necessary to ask so many questions?”
She found it strange-was this man really so mentally deficient? Why did he have to ask so many details about a man who had nothing to do with him?
