The mask of my beloved
Beloved 70
She hadn’t expected that after being taken in, she woulde out to witness Nathan and Vanessa getting divorced.
This had always been her dream.
It seemed her actions this time were right; although she had suffered physically and mentally, at least she had achieved her goal.
It was simply too good to be true.
However-
Amid her happiness, a faint unease crept into her heart. Aftering out this time, she clearly felt Nathan’s indifference toward her, even more distracted than before.
Just now, when Nathan was feeding her nutritious porridge, in fact, every time he fed her, his eyes would intentionally or unintentionally nce outside.
He was actually doing it on purpose to provoke Vanessa.
This made her feel an even greater sense of crisis.
Inside the car.
Nathan’s face was dark, his whole body radiating a chilling coldness.
Vanessa sat in the back seat, took out her headphones, and leisurely listened to music.
The courthouse was not far away.

After a short while, the car came to a stop.
Vanessa looked outside and was surprised to see it was the Powell’s vi–their home–not the courthouse.
“Nathan, why did youe here?” she frowned and asked.
“To get the documents,” he replied coldly.
“Oh.” Vanessa responded, realizing that they did need to bring all the documents to the courthouse. After all, they had only agreedst night, so it was understandable that he hadn’t brought them.
Nathan got out of the car and went inside.
After quite a while, he still hadn’te out. Vanessa, feeling the urge to pee, went to the bathroom.
Not long after she finished, Nathan finally came out holding a document folder.
“Did you bring all your documents?” Nathan asked uneasily after getting into the driver’s seat.
“Yes, I did,” Vanessa replied, but suddenly felt uneasy and opened her bag to check again.
Upon checking, her face turned pale.
“Wait, where’s my marriage certificate?” Vanessa opened her bag and stared nkly at the empty pouch that was supposed to hold the certificate.
Since she rarely needed the marriage certificate, she usually kept it in this small pouch. Last night, she had deliberately put the pouch into her handbag. At the time, she just squeezed it and felt there were documents inside, but didn’t open it to check. Now, it had mysteriously

disappeared.
“Vanessa, you really have a lot of tricks up your sleeve. Pushing me to get a divorce, yet you didn’t even bring the marriage certificate. Do you really want a divorce?” Nathan mocked.
Vanessa grew anxious and said, “Last night I specifically put the pouch with the marriage certificate into my bag. I felt it was there…”
“Enough, don’t give me that ‘felt like it was there‘ nonsense. If you didn’t bring the documents, you didn’t bring them. If you don’t want a divorce, just say so. Stop ying these games.” Nathan interrupted impatiently.
“What are you talking about? If I didn’t want a divorce, would I have rushed to the hospital? Look, just wait a few minutes, I’ll go upstairs and look for it.” Vanessa nced at the vi. If she hadn’t brought it, it might still be in the house. She pushed open the car door and ran inside.
Nathan watched her back, sneered coldly, and leisurely pushed open the car door to follow, saying, “I’d better go with you, just in case you try something else. I don’t want to wait any longer.”
Vanessa was both angry and frustrated, but knew she was in the wrong, so she hurried to their bedroom and began rummaging through drawers and cabs.
She remembered, five years ago, when she first got the marriage certificate, how thrilled she was. She had treasured it in a pink cartoon pouch and kept it there ever since. It wasn’t until the night beforest, when she left, that she put it into her handbag.
But why had it suddenly disappeared?
“Well? Did you find it? I don’t have time to mess around here with you. Suzy is still in the hospital waiting for me to take care of her.”

Nathan leaned against the window, smoking, his tone full of sarcasm.
“How about this, let’s go to city hall and get a recement marriage certificate, then we can proceed with the divorce. Is that okay?” After searching for a while and still not finding it, Vanessa could only suggest this.
“No.” Nathan’s face darkened and he tly refused, “Do you think people have nothing better to do? Get a recement marriage certificate and then immediately file for divorce? That’s just making trouble for no reason. You might not care about losing face, but I do.”
“What’s so embarrassing about it? We’re getting divorced anyway, aren’t we? Or do you want to just not get divorced? Besides, it’s all recorded in theputer system, it’s not fake.” Vanessa was furious, not knowing where things had gone wrong.
