The Military Queen
Chapter 145 - 97: The Temple Without a God
CHAPTER 145: CHAPTER 97: THE TEMPLE WITHOUT A GOD
"Oh, you strangers also believe in God?" Apoli asked the injured while treating them about their beliefs, and the names they mentioned were all unfamiliar to her.
Number 0 clasped hands together and performed a gesture that looked strange to Yijie.
Seeing this, Apoli’s guard against the stranger immediately dissolved, "Someone, bring our devout believer a God Revitalizing Pill." It was the new maid who came forward. She bowed her head and walked over to Number 0, handing over a bottle of pills.
Apoli waved her hand again, and the new maid glanced at Number 0 before retreating with her head down.
The first reward was ten thousand Military Road Coins, yet the second time it was only a single pill; the Goddess indeed was unpredictable. But from what she just said, it seemed that Number 0 and she shared the same faith. What kind of religion they followed, and how Number 0 could share the same faith with these characters in the game was puzzling.
In Hua Country, as long as one is a military personnel, they follow a belief in non-beliefism. As for soldiers from other countries, their beliefs are various and distinct. Considering the time period, back in Ancient Babylon, major religious beliefs had not truly spread or taken root; this period was likely still one of religious chaos, or it could be called a "godless" era.
"Since we are fellow believers, then I should be more open about my worries," Apoli leaned back on the couch, her gaze fixed on Yijie but quickly turned away.
"I hope we can share your and God’s worries," Number 0 didn’t know that this Apoli, who had lived long in the temple and who could cold-heartedly treat her own sister with brutality, worshipped the God Laozi. After leaving, she would ask Ziyu about which gods were worshipped in the various temples of Babylon.
"This matter, speaking of which is quite alarming. Recently, a traitor emerged from our temple. This traitor concealed a document sealed by God and fled. The document contains the language of demons, and if it spreads, it will bring plagues and endless disasters to the world." Apoli furrowed her brow, her eyes dark like dense clouds that were hard to disperse.
Yijie raised his eyebrows. Apoli’s words, just like her persona, were filled with malice, and he vaguely felt that Apoli and Ziyu were deeply connected. If Ziyu was the traitor, then that demonic document should be on her. However, he had slightly noticed earlier that Ziyu did not carry any document.
"I will definitely find that document," Number 0, like a knight sworn to loyalty, made another gesture in imitation.
"You should stay in the temple for the next few days, the document might still be hidden there," Apoli said with a smile. Being a Goddess, she shouldn’t have engaged in killing. Therefore, after plotting against Ziyu, she didn’t kill her but instead "sold" her beloved sister to the Dark Night Market, leaving it to the wandering merchants to find a buyer at will. But before sending Ziyu away, Apoli searched her entire body without finding any trace of the Hammurabi Code.
Apoli then instructed someone to take them down. The temple was expansive, and concerned that Yijie might not find his way later, Number 0 specifically asked the maid to arrange accommodations close by for them both.
When Number 0 got back to the accommodations, the first thing opened was that bottle of pills. The pills were light purple, "God Revitalizing Pills, a newly developed stimulant by the temple, able to enhance your spiritual power six times upon consumption, each increase by 10%, consisting of: Mint Leaf, Laurel, Bing Pian."
These were not detected by Number 0’s rudimentary Loli Reconnaissance Skill; she only identified the name and effects of the ’God Revitalizing Pills.’ The ingredients were stuffed in the bottle, likely deliberately placed there by the new maid who recognized her.
"Knowing the ingredients, I’ll try making them if I get a chance," Number 0 set aside the pills.
Yijie walked in from outside, having removed his robe and switched back into his Military Uniform. Yijie wearing the robe was quite appealing, otherwise, Ziyu wouldn’t have been handsy.
"That woman is not right; we should leave immediately," Yijie noted when the maid left, she even smiled at him. These days, women are more terrifying than men.
Yijie would rather face a horde of eighty bandits at once than encounter a female bandit like Apoli.
