CHAPTER 169: CHAPTER 106: DISPUTE

Xia You, ever since becoming a Reconnaissance Soldier, had developed the occupational habit of casing out any new location she entered.

The couple seated next to her and Li Zhen on the right was a family newly formed not long ago. The young bride, barely out of her honeymoon, cradled a seven or eight-month-old baby, while her husband, who looked like a teacher, helped push the stroller.

To the left sat people of entirely different dispositions and appearances. When Xia You had first walked over, she had detected the smell of tobacco. The four individuals sported dyed hair in red, blue, green, and white and dressed like street hooligans.

Xia You then thought of Li Zhen’s identity, as well as the man named Li Hui from the previous night. The David Sect, even just for a routine worship ceremony, managed to gather such a diverse congregation from all walks of life and social standings. How were these people brought together?

Take the few hooligans beside her, for instance; they probably couldn’t sit as quiet as they were now even at their own parents’ funerals. But the moment their backsides touched the lawn, they calmed down and eagerly looked towards the slightly elevated grassy area not far off.

"Is the Holy Daughter the representative of the David Sect?" Seeing the devout and solemn expressions on everyone around, Xia You also had to straighten out her attitude. Li Zhen must have trusted her as one of their own to have brought her to such a private worship gathering.

"The Holy Daughter is God’s right hand. She can soothe our restless hearts and guide our lost hands out of the bewildering swamp," Li Zhen murmured dreamily.

Xia You dared not refute her words. She was thinking of inquiring further about this "right hand of God" when suddenly one of the young thugs sitting beside her shouted out.

The lawn, already densely packed, now had an additional wheelchair. A delicate-looking young girl occupied the seat.

This mobility-impaired girl arrived quite late, but she didn’t wish to sit at the very back, so she forcefully tried to make her way through the crowd. As a result, she bumped into one of the hooligans.

"Where’d this cripple come from," griped the injured thug. He hadn’t been paying attention, and the outer wheel of the girl’s wheelchair had rolled over his hand, scraping out a not-so-small wound.

The last thing Ding Ling tolerated was hearing others say in front of her that she was disabled. When they had gotten off the car earlier, her caretaker and stepmother were busy arranging the sunshade and refreshments; she didn’t want to wait for them, so she rolled over by herself.

Usually, when she attended worship, there was a special seat arranged for her in front, but today’s ceremony was spontaneously organized by Xianxian and held outdoors.

There was no orderly seating, and without a passage for her wheelchair amidst the crowd, she was unaccustomed to maneuvering the chair alone and had thus bumped into the thug.

"This young lady bumped into you, consider it a blessing. Now step aside, I’m a VIP here," Ding Ling said, looking forward. She couldn’t see Xianxian’s figure and thought if things didn’t improve, she would seek out the bishop to settle a seat for her.

"Damn bitch, you think you can just bump into someone and walk away?" The thugs weren’t pushovers. Several of them gathered around, encircling Ding Ling.

"What’s this, you want to start acting tough? Be careful, or I’ll have my dad arrest you all and drag you out to be executed," Ding Ling’s face tensed as she struggled to control her wheelchair.

"What a buzzkill, some fragile missy," Li Zhen didn’t take a liking to such delicate young women, and she took on the attitude of someone watching a spectacle unfold.

Upon hearing "executed," the hooligans sneered. "Execute? The missy, despite being a cripple, sure has a pretty tender face, we might as well ’execute’ you first," said the thug with a cut on his arm, reaching out towards Ding Ling.

"Stop," someone twisted the arm of the hooligan from behind, and Xia You stepped out of the crowd to halt his action. Even if hurting someone was the wheelchair girl’s fault, what the thug was doing was evidently wrong.

Li Zhen, standing aside, watched Xia You’s move, a flash of doubt crossing her eyes. The image of Xia You in the KTV last night, threatening Li Hui with a broken wine glass, was still vivid in her mind. Was Xia You naturally warm-hearted, or?

"You, break her hand," Ding Ling, pale with rage, demanded. The very thought of that disgusting man’s hand nearing her face made her feel nauseous.
