CHAPTER 176: CHAPTER 108: UNDERCURRENTS SURGING (2)
"My girlfriend," the words Lin Yi uttered, caused both Xianxian and Xia You to change their expressions drastically. However, as Xia You was basking in the setting sun, her face matched the color of the sun’s afterglow, so aside from her hand moving from her cheek, there were not many other changes. Whatever the superior says is acceptable, pretending temporarily wouldn’t kill anyone.
"Yi!" Xianxian, with a pale face, walked to their table. She had already changed out of the worship robe she wore earlier for prayer services and was now wearing a pink dress that reached her ankles, making her look even more pitiful.
Lin Yi still sat quietly, his knuckles clasping the teacup had turned a pale blue-white.
Xianxian glanced at Xia You, lightly and faintly, as if Xia You was merely a speck of dust, "You wouldn’t fall for someone like this." Describing Xia You, she used the words "someone like this," barely even considering her a woman. Xianxian understood Lin Yi; from the first moment she saw him, she wanted to capture this man.
She had felt this way towards only two people before; the first was her father, the man who granted her a supreme status. Unfortunately, her father was a man without emotions. He was a true God, heartless and desireless. She could only ever be his daughter.
The second was Lin Yi. Lin Yi shared some similarities with Saint Father David, possessing a calm mind and an extraordinary appearance; therefore, his standards were also high. Lin Yi had several girlfriends, and Xianxian knew all too well what kind of girls he liked.
Xia You lowered her hand from her cheek, turned her head around, and looked disdainfully at Xianxian. Enough was enough; she had been used as a living target, a silent target, but that didn’t mean she was a dead target. "This man just happens to see eye to eye with me; we are well matched."
Xianxian stared at the two, tears welling up in her eyes, she bit her teeth and ran down.
"Major, you two?" Xia You wisely didn’t continue the conversation.
"Has Xixi not told you? The Golden Splendor case is connected to the David Sect," Lin Yi had to make a clear distinction from Xianxian during this period.
Xia You and Lin Yi walked out of Lanting, preparing to meet up with Li Zhen, just when they happened to encounter Ding Ling and others.
Lu Xun watched them pass with a meaningful look, while Wei Ruqin, who had just arrived, was taken aback and looked toward the departing Xia You, feeling a mixture of emotions, "That girl?"
"With such strange antics, no telling where she came from, the David Sect nowadays is really becoming more chaotic. Xianxian is just too kind-hearted, thus she was deceived by these infiltrated disciples," Xianxian had barely said a few words before she had excused herself and seemed rather aggrieved.
Lin Yi had driven over, and for convenience in discussing matters, Xia You parted ways with Li Zhen.
"Li Hui is dead," the news that Lin Yi brought made the heated car suddenly feel cold.
Lin Yi also lost his previous romantic demeanor; he was a born soldier, very clear about personal and professional boundaries. He had real feelings for Xianxian, but the David Sect behind her stirred up waves in their sea of love.
This morning, Xixi, before going to sleep, had sent a work email to Lin Yi. Naturally, she also erased nearly fifty million of huge unexplained funds from Li Hui’s account to just a fraction. Xixi did this personally without prior announcement to Lin Yi, but she did not pocket the money; instead, it was donated to a charity in Hua Country, improving the living conditions of lonely elderly and orphans.
Lin Yi turned a blind eye, only instructing a few colleagues in the military region to keep tabs on Li Hui. The commands came out this morning, but by noon, the colleague responsible for tracking Li Hui’s whereabouts called; since leaving home last night, Li Hui had not gone out but was found dead in his apartment at noon.
"How did he die?" Xia You listened and felt a chill; Li Hui had been alive last night but had now become a corpse.
"The cause of death isn’t clear yet. The forensic examination at the scene found only a small cut at his throat," Lin Yi explained as he drove. The timing was too coincidental; Li Hui’s death was likely related to the money Xixi had evaporated.
"That cut, I made it," Xia You explained what happened last night once again.
Xixi didn’t mention in that work email the good deed they had done last night.
"The wound was disinfected, and it’s just a skin deep cut, not fatal. His death was not caused by that injury," Lin Yi listened to her narration without blaming her. Having been in that situation, it was all for the sake of not revealing their identities and getting out safely; had it been Lin Yi there, that person named Li Hui would have suffered more than just a skin injury.
"If you feel it’s not safe, you and Xixi can opt out of this mission," Lin Yi said this somewhat reluctantly. Obeying commands is a soldier’s duty, but Xia You and Xixi were not external forces soldiers, and they were women. In the military, female soldiers still enjoyed certain privileges.
"No, on the contrary, I feel I must stay in Golden Splendor. Li Hui’s death is likely just the beginning," last night, the manager who entered the door looked like he knew Li Hui. With Li Hui dead, will the people behind him come to light?
"OK, as long as you two can hold on. Also, one more thing, about today’s incident between her and me, apart from the three of us, I don’t want a fourth person to know," Lin Yi spoke with force, carrying a hint of warning.(To be continued.
