The Military Queen
Chapter 64 - 55: Waiting for the Bald Man
CHAPTER 64: CHAPTER 55: WAITING FOR THE BALD MAN
After logging into "Military Road" again, Number 0 stood on the same street where she had failed to follow her target the night before.
Anxious about the progress of the system mission, Number 0 hurriedly headed to the residence indicated on the system map belonging to Lord Yu. To her relief, when she arrived at the Water Control Mansion, which is Lord Yu’s home, the soldier on duty at the door informed her that Lord Yu had gone out to inspect the water conditions. In other words, the Bald Soldier had not successfully persuaded him.
Number 0 thought about the man’s icy gaze from yesterday and guessed that such a person was probably all brawn and no brains, and he was likely to have relayed Tushan Nujiao’s "family letter" to Lord Yu without any embellishment.
"Are you here to deliver another message to the Lord?" the soldier on duty in the evening asked, shaking his head, "These past few days we’ve already had quite a few messengers from Lady Tushan, and the Lord is getting a bit impatient. Look, he went out for an inspection early this morning just to avoid people like you."
After hearing this, Number 0 had an idea, "The Lady was worried we might encounter trouble on the road, so she sent more people this time. Among them, there’s a guy who is my brother, a natural baldy. About this tall, sturdy build, with particularly fierce eyes. Do you remember such a person?"
Having learned Loli Reconnaissance Skill, Number 0’s observation and reaction skills had improved a lot. Though she had only glimpsed the Bald Soldier, she could describe him as if he were standing right in front of her.
Perhaps the Bald Soldier was indeed quite memorable, because the two rotating soldiers immediately recalled, "Yes, we had such a person. He even argued with Lord Yu and both of them looked quite displeased."
Arguing with Lord Yu? Were there really messengers so bold? After hearing this, a glint of brightness appeared in Number 0’s eyes.
"You know what, that guy too, I remember him. After his argument with Lord Yu, he kept lingering around the gate, even though Lord Yu refused to meet him," another soldier also recalled. The man was stubborn; with Lord Yu being so busy managing countless responsibilities, especially with the Eastern Yi Tribe’s affairs being so pressing, it was impossible for him to spare any time to return to the Tushan Tribe.
In fact, any player who had entered the backup battlefield like Number 0 would have been able to extract this description from the guards’ lips. Some players, after finding it hopeless to persuade Lord Yu, chose to actively end the system mission. After all, the requirement to pass through the Newbie Village was to complete more than two tasks. As long as they completed the first and second missions, they could pass through successfully and enter the main battlefield.
(It seems that the third mission is harder than expected. Before you go to meet Lord Yu, you should practice the message Tushan Clan has entrusted you to deliver, rehearsing it well, making sure the delivery is more poignant, with tears and emotion. Don’t get tongue-tied or mentally short-circuited when you meet such a celebrity,) Little Eight also noticed the difficulty, but Number 0 wasn’t in a rush. She headed to a residential house near the Water Control Mansion and got a cup of water and had a long chat with a neighborly elderly woman who was delivering water.
It wasn’t until sunset, when the golden dusk settled, that an eye-catching figure appeared outside the gate of the Water Control Mansion. The bold, Bald Soldier suddenly showed up in front of Number 0.
The moment the Bald Soldier stepped into the Water Control Mansion, he heard a crisp voice behind him, "I’ve finally waited for you."
At that moment, the atmosphere was on the brink of exploding.
Bathed in the sunset, both people gave each other a very unfriendly look.
"Wasn’t yesterday’s lesson enough?" the man’s disdainful tone was enough to hurt Little Eight just by hearing it.
(He wouldn’t try to hit a woman on the street again, would he?) Little Eight, who had never really been conscious of gender differences, suddenly became aware of them. To be precise, the Bald Soldier did not hit women; he only "robbed women."
"Where’s my gun?" What Number 0 truly cared about was her Zero Needle Shooter Pistol. With all other players being forced to use melee weapons like knives, she couldn’t let the secret of her using the needle shooting gun be revealed.
To Number 0’s surprise, the Bald Soldier tossed the gun carelessly back to her. His throwing gesture was efficient, showing that outside of "Military Road," he was also adept at using guns. The Bald Soldier was indeed a firearms expert. He too noticed that everyone around him was using hand-to-hand combat weapons. The appearance of the gun took him by surprise.
After inspecting the gun and discovering that the magazine only contained thin needles with little killing power, he dismissed the gun as a fancy but ineffective "woman’s weapon." Such a toy gun didn’t suit a big man like himself. If his subordinates, especially loudmouths like Yu Xiaonan, found out, they would mock him for days and nights, making him the talk of the military region for an entire month.
"A toy gun, huh," Number 0 responded, and when she held the gun in her hand, she smiled slightly. The setting sun caught her eyes, reflecting a gem-like brilliance.
As the light flashed, the Bald Soldier heard the sound of the wind. She actually dared to shoot. Such needles, even if coated with poison, could not possibly have much killing power; they probably wouldn’t even break his skin. The Bald Soldier waved his hand in the air with a dashing gesture, as the needle stuck to the surface of his skin, stubbornly trying to penetrate deeper? The Bald Soldier immediately broke out into a cold sweat as the needles that came out of the gun were alive. By the time he noticed, it was already a bit too late. The female soldier, who just a moment ago was smiling, now stood in front of him, pressing the gun against his temple.
"What does it feel like to have a thing from a toy gun, if it enters your temple and starts drilling inside with all its might?" Number 0 spoke unhurriedly, observing the "Leech Needle" she had shot earlier, now burrowing into the Bald Soldier’s hand, twisting and turning on it. She felt a surge of mischief — she should have struck the needle on the man’s head, as such a scene would certainly be more intimidating.
Anybody in such a situation would have lost their composure on the spot.
But this Bald man, whether his psychological quality was really strong or he was simply stunned by fear, didn’t react immediately. The Leech Needle was still moving on the back of his hand, and although Number 0 couldn’t see his exact Physical Strength value, she could infer it was decreasing.
"Give me back all my military coins, and on top of that, hand over all the equipment you have," Number 0 thought about revenge and grievance. What she was doing wasn’t too excessive after all.
The Bald Soldier’s mouth curved into an arc, his gaze softening from sharp to gentle, as if the Leech Needle burrowing into his flesh wasn’t torture but rather a perverse form of pleasure.
(Surely, I haven’t stumbled upon a weirdo?) Number 0 and Little Eight concurrently had this thought.
