CHAPTER 258: YOU’RE MY PRIORITY, MY WIFE

Primrose tilted her head slightly and asked softly, "What if I need a little more time?"

"No." Edmund’s tone left no room for argument. "Thirty minutes. That’s all. He has to leave when the time’s up."

Well, technically, Edmund wouldn’t be there to enforce it himself, so maybe she could ask the soldiers to give her a bit more time?

"The soldiers won’t give you extra time either." His words shattered that thought instantly. "This time, they’re only following my orders."

Primrose sighed, her shoulders sinking. "Alright. Thirty minutes, then."

It wasn’t much, but it might be enough. If she did it right, maybe she could get the secret words in time.

"I’m sorry," Edmund whispered. He lifted her hand to his lips and kissed it gently, over and over again. "I’m not trying to control you. I just ... I won’t be able to leave in peace if I don’t know you’re safe."

[She’s not mad at me, is she? What should I do if she is?]

[Maybe I should bring her a gift when I get back later.]

[Honestly ... I don’t understand why she wants to keep that bastard doctor here? Why would my wife want to help a stranger like that young woman?]

[Why does she have to be so kind?]

That word again.

Primrose was not sure that Edmund would still think she was kind if he knew that she just wanted to take revenge.

"I understand," Primrose said softly. "I’m not angry with you, husband."

Truly, she wasn’t.

The rules he made were frustrating, sure, but she knew he wasn’t doing it to hurt her. He was just trying to protect the person he loved.

"Just promise me you won’t be gone too long," she whispered as she wrapped her arms around him. "Because I’ll miss you, and I’ll feel lonely if you take too long to come back."

Edmund had come home really late last night, so late that Primrose was already fast asleep.

Since she needed all the rest she could get, he decided not to wake her and ended up sleeping in his own room. He only came to see her again when he had to leave the palace in the morning.

Truthfully, he was absolutely pissed off about the situation because what he really wanted was to stay by his wife’s side until she fully recovered, but those damn rogues forced him to go.

"I’ll come home as soon as I can," he whispered, gently stroking her hair and kissing her temple. "If anything bad happens here, just send a soldier to call for me. I’ll come running back immediately, I promise."

Primrose let out a soft laugh. "What if I call you back while you’re in the middle of a fight?"

Edmund didn’t hesitate for a second. "Then I’ll finish the battle and come back right after. But you’re my priority. So, if something bad happens to you, I’ll drop everything and come home no matter what I’m doing."

Primrose tightened her hug, burying her face in the crook of his neck.

Her husband had just said that she was his top priority.

If only ... if only in her past life she’d told him the truth, that she was dying, maybe he would’ve come back to her. Maybe she wouldn’t have died alone.

Right.

She really should’ve told him back then.

Just thinking about it made her throat tighten, and she had to fight back the tears. She didn’t want to worry him now, especially not when he had so much on his shoulders already.

"I think it’s time for you to go," she finally said, pulling away from the warmth of their embrace. "Please be careful out there. Don’t get hurt, alright?"

Edmund smiled faintly. "I can heal quickly—" He stopped mid-sentence when he saw the pout forming on her face. "Alright, alright. I get it. I won’t get hurt. I promise."

After giving her one last kiss, Edmund reluctantly left her side.

In her first life, Primrose hadn’t felt anything whenever she watched her husband leave the palace. But now ... now that she’d grown used to having him close, used to hearing his thoughts every day, his absence suddenly felt too quiet, too empty.

"It’s too quiet," she muttered, covering her face with her hands and groaning. "I miss him already."

He hadn’t even been gone for five minutes.

There was definitely something wrong with her brain.

She shook her head and took a few deep breaths to calm herself down.

This wasn’t the time to daydream about her sweet marriage because she had a mission to focus on.

Even though she was only given thirty minutes, Primrose intended to use that short time to bring Silas down.

It was doable, but she didn’t want to get too confident just yet.

After mentally reviewing the steps to steer Silas’s thoughts toward revealing the slave seal’s secret words, Primrose asked Marielle and Solene to help her change clothes and take her to the greenhouse.

"Your Majesty!" Marielle chirped excitedly. "His Majesty asked the carpenter to make you this special wheelchair yesterday!"

She was practically bouncing as she presented it, like she was a proud salesperson introducing a brand-new product. "The seat is extra soft so your back won’t ache even if you sit for a while! And the wheels—oh, the wheels! They’re super smooth, so the ride will feel really comfortable!"

Primrose blinked a few times as she stared at the wooden wheelchair in front of her. There was nothing wrong with it actually, it looked well-crafted, but she couldn’t help being impressed.

She hadn’t expected Edmund to go as far as having a custom wheelchair made just for her. He knew she’d be able to walk again in three days, so normally, most people wouldn’t bother asking a carpenter to build something like this.

But Edmund still made sure she had one, just to make things easier for her.

Oh no. Now Primrose missed her husband even more.

When would he come home?

"But ... what if I have to go down the stairs?" she asked quietly. "The wheelchair can’t go down, right?"

Solene smiled brightly. "Don’t worry, Your Majesty. I’ll carry you down the stairs myself!"

[Honestly, even if this wheelchair didn’t exist, I would’ve carried her to the greenhouse anyway.] Solene thought to herself. [Surely Her Majesty doesn’t think she needs to crawl across the floor just to get there, does she?]

Of course, Primrose didn’t think that.

But ... she had seriously considered using walking canes to support herself. Maybe even dragging her legs if she had to.

Yeah, yeah ... that was dumb.

She probably would’ve screamed the whole way every time her feet touched the ground.

"Am I not too heavy for you?" she asked hesitantly.

"Nonsense!" Solene suddenly lifted her from the bed without the slightest effort, as if she were picking up a sack of feathers. "I can carry you anywhere with ease, Your Majesty!"
