CHAPTER 53: CHAPTER 52: TAKING A WALK

Song Wei took Wen Wan back to the inn, ordering a few simple dishes and hot water for a bath before going upstairs.

After entering the room, Wen Wan went to the bedside, took out Song Wei’s change of clothes from the bundle, and prepared to serve him when he bathed.

Song Wei followed her in, sat down along the edge of the bed, and only spoke after she placed the clothes on the bedside table, "Were you frightened by what happened earlier, Wanwan?"

Wen Wan smiled gently, she was really fine. Those two targeted Song Wei, taking her away was merely to lure him to the restaurant, nothing was actually done to her.

Seeing the expression on her face didn’t seem like a lie, Song Wei finally showed some pleasure, held her hand, pulled her to sit beside him, and said softly, "For the next few days, just wait for me at the inn. I’ll bring you whatever you want to eat when I return. It’s too dangerous outside, I can’t be at ease with you out there."

Wen Wan originally wanted to explain something but then heard him say, "If a situation like today happens again and I’m in the exam, unable to come out to see you, what then?"

Wen Wan compromised, listened to his words, and obediently agreed, indicating she wouldn’t wait for him outside the county government.

After all, she sincerely hoped her husband could perform well in the exam. If during the exam he’s also worried about her safety, then she would be too derelict as a wife.

Song Wei squeezed the small hand in his palm, his gaze becoming warmer, and advised her, "I’m going to take a bath, if the meals are served, you eat first."

Wen Wan felt her ears heat up, momentarily dazed, and by the time she heard the inn servant’s knock, Song Wei had already undressed and soaked in the bath behind the screen.

She didn’t have time to serve.

Wen Wan stood up, opened the door, and the servant, holding a tray, moved quickly. It wasn’t long before they set the dishes.

Wen Wan sat down and glanced casually.

Song Wei ordered some home-cooked dishes, not comparable to the gourmet delicacies from Songhe Building, but Wen Wan thought they smelled more appetizing than anything.

Probably because they were what she was used to, the dishes common folk eat, and also because her husband had personally ordered them.

She didn’t use her chopsticks, and after serving the soup into his bowl, she just sat there blankly.

They stayed in a normal inn, not large, and the sound of Song Wei bathing behind the screen was particularly noticeable in the quiet room.

At home, Wen Wan had served Song Wei during his baths, but somehow, being in a different place, hearing the sound of water splashing inside made her heart race uncontrollably.

Nervous like a bride about to consummate her marriage on her wedding night.

When Song Wei came out, he noticed the little lady’s eyes avoiding his. He smiled, walked over while drying his hair, and sat beside her, turning his gaze towards her fair, delicate face, "What guilty act have you done?"

The freshly bathed man, with a voice carrying a lazy relaxation, could melt right to the bones, enticing and making one’s heart itch.

Wen Wan suddenly had an urge to hug him, but ultimately rationality prevailed. She didn’t have the courage to actually do it, adjusted her emotions, and took the towel from his hand to help dry his hair.

After dinner, it was already completely dark, but since this was the county town, the lights were bright after nightfall, making the streets below appear exceptionally lively and splendid.

Wen Wan thought Song Wei would read for a while like last night before going to sleep.

Unexpectedly, he didn’t even take out the books, stood by the window looked at the night view outside, turned around, walked over to her in a few steps, naturally grasped her small hand, and pushed the door open to head downstairs.

Wen Wan was full of doubt.

Song Wei seemed to notice, lifted the corner of his lips, "Let’s go for a walk."
