The Player's POV
Chapter 21: Rescue [1]
CHAPTER 21: CHAPTER 21: RESCUE [1]
Orphanage.
"Hey, where are we going? Why is everyone suddenly ordered to gather?"
"...Don’t you know anything? Is this your first time?"
"Yeah, I’m new."
He nodded.
"You’ve been working here for years, so you should know the reason, right?"
The other sighed.
"If that’s the case, then forget it, I can’t tell you."
"..."
"If you have been working for years and forget, then at least I can. But for a new person, forget it."
"..."
"If you’ve worked here for more than 5 years, then you’re allowed to know what’s going on inside. But otherwise..."
"..." Once again, he was met with silence.
"Hey, why aren’t you saying anything?"
Confused, the man looked to his right - where the newbie should have been, but now, it was empty.
That newbie had completely disappeared, as if he had never existed in this world.
Not giving the man time to figure out what had just happened, a cold hand locked his neck, not allowing him the chance to escape.
"Who are you?! Enemy?! Let me go!"
Something cold, sharp, and dangerous immediately touched his back.
Obviously, it was a sword.
Although no words were uttered, the man still understood that if he resisted, death was certain.
Following that, Hans Varun’s voice echoed in the quiet night:
"Where is that laboratory?"
"What?"
He poked the tip of the sword into the man’s skin, causing a little blood to flow out.
"I won’t say it again, where is that lab?"
His voice was cold, filled with murderous intent.
Causing no one to have any intention of resisting.
"I-In the warehouse!" The man held his breath, closing his eyes tightly.
In the face of death, no one dared to resist.
"Is that so?"
"Yes! Since I said it, can you let me go?"
As promised, the protagonist released the man, retreating the blood stains on his blade.
"..T-Thank you very much!"
"You shouldn’t thank me. I will not kill you, but my friend will."
"Huh?"
Tap... tap... tap...
From the darkness, Kael stepped forward with a meaningful smile on his lips.
He didn’t say much, just held out his palm towards the man, still keeping that smile.
[Authority of Gluttony.]
From his palm, darkness poured out, enveloping the body of the man - who still had no idea what had just happened.
Kael’s Ability could be said to be the most convenient thing in the world.
It could be used to attack, and it could also clean up all traces.
It would be a problem if a psychopath killer possessed [Authority of Gluttony].
But thankfully that person was him.
"How is it, did you find any clues?"
"Yes, it was very useful. That laboratory is in the warehouse, and I think Caster is there too."
Determining the location of that place as the warehouse, Kael and Hans didn’t say anything more and ran straight to it.
They didn’t have much time.
The two of them had to rescue that kid as soon as possible.
***
Right now, the entire warehouse was surrounded by a large number of guards, all fully armed, enough to prove that the information the protagonist had obtained was correct.
At a glance, the two of them could count at least 20 guards standing there.
Quite a large number.
However, for Hans, a regressor who had once ascended to the 99th floor, and Kael, who possessed [Authority of Gluttony], that number was nothing.
"How is it, are you confident that you can handle it, Hans?"
"What a redundant question."
With that, the protagonist left the location where they were hiding.
Like a shadow, he passed through the night, approaching the 5 closest guards without making any unnecessary noise.
And then, in a blink of an eye, with a sword strike that seemed to have been practiced a million times, the five guards fell to the ground.
Blood began to flow from their necks.
Signaling an inevitable death.
Not a single sound was heard.
It was all too easy for Hans.
He didn’t even have a drop of sweat, let alone a wound on his body.
Then, he slowly turned to face Kael - who was still hiding, and bowed deeply, like a pianist after playing the piano of the century.
At the same time, a shrill scream rang out from behind.
"You bastard! Who are you!? Everyone, there’s an intruder!"
Following that scream, were dozens of heavy and hurried footsteps.
The target of those guards was only one - Hans.
But, instead of turning back to them and continuing to fight, he kept looking at where Kael was hiding, still with an unreadable smile on his lips.
Clearly, he had no intention of taking this battle seriously.
"Really, so this is what you wanted, huh?"
He couldn’t help but sigh.
"Die, intruder!"
The distance between Hans and those swords was getting shorter and shorter.
Unfortunately, those dangerous weapons would never be able to touch him.
Because in the next moment, all the guards were covered in the darkness of death.
[Authority of Gluttony] was activated.
And when that darkness dissipated, their enemies were no longer there.
"Nice teamwork, my friend." Hans gave a thumbs up to Kael, who was walking out from his hiding place.
"Tsk, what is your purpose in the end? You can completely handle them, right? If I didn’t help, you would have died."
"Hehe, because I believed you would."
"Tsk."
"Moreover, I just want you to gain more combat experience."
The protagonist said, while slashing open the wooden door leading to the warehouse.
For some reason, inside that place was another door leading to a completely different room.
If the entire warehouse was made of wood, which could be destroyed at any time, then the room inside was made of a completely different material.
It was shiny, and looked sturdy, like steel, or metal.
If one had to compare, the room looked quite similar to the vaults of banks.
’Moreover, it seems to be quite soundproof. Is there such material in this era?’
While Kael was still having many questions in his mind, Hans had already approached the door leading to that room, and kicked it with all his strength.
BOOM!
A thunderous explosion rang out.
"Damn it Hans! Can’t you be more gentle? The children are still sleeping!"
The door was destroyed.
The scientists inside completely froze in their movements, unable to take their eyes off the two strangers who had just appeared.
They didn’t understand what had just happened, but very quickly, they all got into a fighting stance.
With light steps, Kael entered the room, glanced around, then stopped when he noticed Caster - who was also staring straight at him with wide eyes, in the middle of this place.
With a smirk, he said:
"See, kid? I told you I would come save you."
