The Player's POV
Chapter 25: Bug [3]
CHAPTER 25: CHAPTER 25: BUG [3]
That was a foolish action.
Even Kael, who had just done it, had to agree with it.
The people here were entities that held supreme power, people who could easily do anything they wanted without moving a single step.
And such people would definitely possess sky-high egos.
In the mildest case, they would kill him.
In the worst case, they would make his life a living hell.
However, if Kael didn’t do that, nothing would change.
His efforts from the beginning until now would be in vain.
That damn scenario would repeat itself once again.
[Amphorous wants to kill you.]
[Dicathen is emitting a lot of killing intent.]
[Nanook is preparing his soldiers and weapons to take your head.]
Kael had no regrets about his actions.
He knew that everyone here would not be able to kill him without the Tower Master’s permission.
And sure enough, he was right, once again.
[Alright everyone, don’t emit such killing intent. Even I feel uncomfortable here.]
The Tower Master spoke up, saving Kael from certain death.
[I know that everyone is feeling very frustrated and angry, but think about it, Kael Draven’s idea isn’t that bad, is it?]
[Nanook is thinking again.]
[Gojo Satoru feels that what Tower Master said is quite right.]
It was exactly like the information he had about these Tower Creators.
They might be cold-blooded, but everyone here was a pleasure seeker.
To satisfy themselves, they could do anything.
And what Kael just said just now probably made all of them feel quite interested.
[Alright, since everyone has agreed, let’s listen to Kael Draven’s idea, shall we?]
The Tower Master pointed a finger towards him.
[Alright, now, tell me your idea.]
"I am grateful to you, Tower Master, and all the other Tower Creators."
To be honest, Kael was feeling extremely cheerful.
It was as if a grand feast was being held in his heart.
It took a lot of effort for him to not laugh out loud.
If everyone here knew that he had calculated them all from the start, Kael wondered what they would do to him?
"My idea is simple, let’s just clear the 20th floor like this. The boss won’t appear, and no one will die."
Tower Master spread his arms, raised his head, turned his attention to all the Tower Creators present, and said:
[Like always, let’s vote, shall we?]
[The vote is in progress.]
[3.]
[2.]
With each passing second, Kael’s heart seemed to skip a beat.
He was really nervous.
[1.]
[0.]
[The voting results are in! Let’s check!]
[Agree: 1.]
[Disagree: 34843289.]
[Abstain: Remaining.]
"Huh?"
His face was pale.
The confidence he had just had was gone.
His body was cold, unable to believe what he was witnessing.
There was only 1 person who agreed with his opinion.
And all the others disagreed.
This result was truly shameful.
It was unforeseeable.
[What a pity, Kael Draven. It seems your idea will not be implemented.]
The Tower Master spoke up, but this time, his tone sounded more like that of a villain.
[Your first idea was rejected. So, I, no, we were wondering if you have any other ideas?]
Hastily, Kael snapped out of his disappointment, and without hesitation, spoke his next idea:
"What do you think if we separate Doom Bringer from Caster? That means the child will not turn into Doom Bringer, but that Tower Creature will still appear?"
[...]
"And because of that, its power will be reduced?"
Based on his judgment and understanding of the Tower Creators, the reason they rejected his first idea was probably because it wasn’t entertaining enough.
They wanted to see a tough battle.
And so, in this second idea, Kael had fulfilled their needs.
However, the result didn’t go as he had hoped.
[Agree: 1.]
[Disagree: 8972145.]
[Abstain: Remaining.]
When he saw those messages, his body felt as if it had lost all its energy.
"Why..." In the smallest voice possible, he mumbled.
[Why? I thought you had already guessed the answer?]
...
The Tower Master was right.
Kael had somewhat figured out what the answer was.
However, he refused to believe it.
[Do I need to tell you the truth?]
"..."
[That boy named Caster is doomed to die. There’s no way to save him.]
That was exactly the answer Kael had predicted.
And when he heard it spoken by the Tower Master himself, an indescribable pain suddenly appeared in his heart.
"...May I ask why, sir?"
[It’s destiny. It’s that simple.]
Originally, his number one plan was to save all the Rankers who participated in clearing the 20th floor, as well as all the people living there.
But ever since he met Caster and spent so much time with the boy, that priority had changed.
And now, the Tower Master was saying that that kid had to die?
After everything they had been through together, Kael would have to part with the kid?
He was truly heartbroken.
But there was nothing else he could do to save the situation.
[If you can’t think of a plan, Kael Draven, do you need me, the Tower Master, to help you?]
"...Please." He spoke, like a lost soul.
[What do you want the most?]
"...I want to save Caster... I want to save everyone on the 20th floor... I don’t want anyone to die..."
[How greedy.]
He knew that, more than anyone.
[That’s why, I won’t agree.]
[Say again.]
Kael gritted his teeth, he couldn’t let his own selfishness affect the big picture.
"...If I can’t save Caster... then I want to at least save the others."
[And?]
"And, in order to do that... I want to significantly reduce Doom Bringer’s power."
[...]
Still not working?
Then...
"Aren’t all of you here pleasure seekers? If that’s the case, then if you grant my request, then I... will be the one to kill Caster..."
It took a great deal of internal struggle for him to be able to utter those words.
"So... what do you guys think? Isn’t that a great idea?" Kael said.
His eyes, his face, his expression, his smile all looked more miserable than ever.
[Interesting.]
Said the Tower Master.
[Hmm, I can’t directly nerf the boss, but I know a way to nerf it. But the problem is you have to do it yourself.]
[Remember, Kael, this is our privilege for you as the one who found the bug, and as a Transmigrator - a special person.]
[Don’t let us down.]
"How?"
[You just need to fulfill Caster’s wish.]
"And what is that wish?"
He gave a sarcastic smile.
[I don’t know. You have to find out for yourself.]
[This is not a library that contains everything you want to know. This is the Tower.]
"..."
[Can I take silence as consent?]
"Yes."
[Very good.]
Perhaps in this situation, there were still better solutions.
But Kael was just a normal person, not a genius or anything, so this was already his limit.
[If so, then other Tower Creators, what do you guys think about this?]
[Everyone nodded in agreement.]
[...]
[Then Kael Draven, when you open your eyes again, you will return to the day before Doom Bringer appeared.]
His vision gradually darkened.
[You will still retain the memory of today’s meeting.]
He was completely unable to see anything anymore.
[Good luck.]
