CHAPTER 176: CHAPTER 176: CHINESE NEW YEAR

Just before noon, Qi Lang ran over and shouted, "Aunt, Brother Sanlang, it’s time to eat."

Mrs. Chen and Jiang Youzhi both got up, and Jiang Youzhi walked towards the kitchen to take a look.

Yun Jiao sat by the stove; when she saw him looking over, she waved at him.

Mrs. Chen and Jiang Youzhi took Liu Lang and San Ya to the main room.

Once inside, everyone’s eyes fell on them.

The four of them were wearing new thick cotton-padded jackets, all in fine cotton fabric, looking warm.

San Ya was wearing a jacket with red flowers, and there were two red velvet flowers in her hair, a far cry from the San Ya who always wore drab clothes before.

Especially after eating meat for a few months, Liu Lang, San Ya, and Jiang Youzhi had all grown taller.

The whole family stood there, white-skinned, chubby, and clean, making others envious.

Mrs. Yang, feeling slightly bitter, said, "Oh, if you didn’t tell me, I’d have thought they were some wealthy landlords."

"Sister-in-law really has good fortune, casually picking up a daughter-in-law who can make money."

Mrs. Chen laughed, "Indeed, my daughter-in-law is incomparable even to most men."

Mr. Jiang glanced outside, "Where’s Yun Jiao, why isn’t she here?"

Jiang Youzhi smiled, "Grandpa, she said she’s still got her younger brother to look after, so she didn’t come to disturb us."

Mr. Jiang waved his hand energetically, "Call her over, it’s just a matter of adding a pair of chopsticks."

Jiang Youzhi waved his hand, "Let it be, let’s eat."

The dishes on the table were all set.

Even Mrs. Zhou had been carried out of bed by Jiang Hua.

She leaned against a round chair, surrounded by a quilt to keep her from sliding down.

Jiang Hua ran to the courtyard to set off a string of firecrackers, then closed the door to eat.

The table was made by combining two square tables, with a rare bowl of meat braised with radish, and a fish, both dishes placed in front of Mrs. Zhou.

Mrs. Zhou was somewhat better now and could use one hand to pick up food.

Jiang Youzhi was pulled to sit next to Mr. Jiang.

Mrs. Chen and the others were squeezed to the furthest end from the two meat dishes.

Mr. Jiang first put a piece of fish in Mrs. Zhou’s bowl, and then everyone began to eat.

The meat braised with radish and the fish became the targets of everyone’s pursuits.

Most of the people at the nearest tables stood up, their chopsticks all pointing towards Mrs. Zhou’s direction.

Liu Lang hadn’t seen such a scene in a long time and almost forgot how to snatch food; he held his chopsticks blankly for a while.

San Ya, however, was well-prepared, sitting there without moving, as she hadn’t planned to eat.

Mrs. Chen exchanged a glance with San Ya, silently saying, "Don’t fight over it with them, we’ll eat our own when we go back."

Their home had plenty of chicken, duck, fish, and meat; there was no need to fight over it.

Soon all that was left in the meat-braised radish was just radishes.

In the blink of an eye, the fish was reduced to just a spine.

Liu Lang looked at the cabbage and soy sauce radish on the table and lost his appetite.

He held his bowl, shifting around; he just wanted to go home and eat chicken, but he knew leaving just after sitting down would be too impolite.

Liu Lang finally couldn’t bear it after a while and put down his bowl.

San Ya also put down her bowl, and the two stood up, "Grandpa and Grandma, enjoy your meal, we’re full."

Mrs. Yang peeked into their bowls, "Oh, what do you mean full, a bowl of rice is still a bowl of rice."

"What, you don’t like our meals, do you?"

Si Lang snorted from the side, "They eat meat every day, naturally they look down on this bit of oil and water."
