The Prisoner Who Came Back a King
Chapter 10 – I am not your dad
Ye Feng couldn't help but pinch her chubby cheeks and pat the little girl's head, saying seriously, "I'm not your dad. Where are your parents?"
Ye Feng looked around but didn't see any adults. The teacher's dormitory was nearby, so he guessed she was a teacher's child who had mistaken him for someone else.
The little girl, however, insisted earnestly, "You are my dad. You look exactly like him."
As expected, the child had mistaken him due to her limited understanding.
At that moment, Luo Yan came running down from a dormitory building. Seeing Ye Feng, she approached and said, "Brother Feng, I thought you weren't coming in?"
"It's fine, there's hardly anyone around. I just came in for a quick look."
"Who's this little girl? She's so cute!"
Luo Yan noticed the little girl beside Ye Feng and couldn't help but squat down to pat her head.
The little one seemed a bit shy and hid behind Ye Feng.
"Brother Feng, whose child is this?" Luo Yan asked.
Ye Feng was just as puzzled, shaking his head, "I don't know either. I just got here, and she called me dad."
"You are my dad," the little girl said seriously, pursing her lips.
Ye Feng smiled wryly, squatting down to pat her head, "Alright, go find your parents. Uncle has to go."
He was about to leave, not wanting to linger for fear of running into familiar teachers.
But the little girl didn't let go, tears welling up in her eyes as she pleaded pitifully, "Dad, please don't leave Coco."
Ye Feng couldn't bear it, squatting down gently, "Uncle isn't your dad. Go find your parents."
He turned to leave, but the little girl clung tightly to his pant leg.
Ye Feng lifted his foot to go, and the little girl finally let go, watching him leave the school gate with a reluctant gaze.
"Yingying, on behalf of the school, thank you," said a voice from the dormitory building. Two figures emerged, one being Liu Yingying, the other a nearly fifty-year-old woman with thick glasses.
"Ms. Chen, there's no need to thank me. The school nurtured me, so it's only right to give back," Liu Yingying replied.
Liu Yingying was dressed in a fine suit with a down jacket, yet her charm was still evident.
The teacher, named Chen Qin, was Liu Yingying's former homeroom teacher and also Ye Feng's math teacher.
Liu Yingying had returned to her alma mater to fund the construction of a new teaching building, and their discussion was nearing its end.
Just then, the little girl saw Liu Yingying and ran over, crying, "Mom... Dad doesn't want me anymore!"
Hearing this, Liu Yingying's heart ached. The child had been asking for her dad lately, causing her much distress.
Thinking the girl missed her dad, she quickly picked her up, wiped her tears, and said softly, "Coco, don't cry. Little Coco is so cute; how could Dad not want you?"
The little girl sobbed, "I just saw Dad, and he didn't want Coco."
Hearing this, she cried even harder.
"Coco, don't say that. Dad went far, far away. How could you have seen him?"
Liu Yingying's heart ached, recalling the man she both loved and hated. Watching her daughter's tears, her resentment deepened.
Chen Qin knew well that Liu Yingying's child was the daughter of her most outstanding student.
Liu Yingying had faced countless scorn and criticism because of it.
Thinking of that student, Chen Qin sighed deeply. Once, he was the pride of the school and the teachers.
In conversations with teachers from other schools, he was always a source of pride.
He was like a shooting star, brilliant and dazzling, but then he fell swiftly into darkness.
When Ye Feng was imprisoned, they all believed he was wronged.
Many teachers attended the trial, but the evidence was overwhelming, proving that the once excellent and gentle student had gone astray.
Thinking of this, she sighed regretfully, forcing a smile at Liu Yingying, "Yingying, everything's settled. You comfort the child while I discuss with the principal."
"Alright, Ms. Chen, take care."
Chen Qin nodded and headed to the office in the teaching building.
Liu Yingying picked up the little girl and said softly, "Coco, don't cry. Mommy will take you for something delicious!"
"Mom, I'm not lying. I just saw Dad," the little girl insisted stubbornly.
Liu Yingying smiled wryly. She had searched for him for so many years without a trace. How could he be here?
The child must have mistaken someone else due to missing her dad.
But to comfort her, she pretended to be serious, "Mommy believes Coco. Dad will come home soon, so don't cry."
The child's simple nature was soothed by Liu Yingying's words, and she asked softly, "Really?"
"Yes, when has Mommy ever lied to you?" Liu Yingying smiled gently.
"But before Dad comes back, you need to grow up a bit, so Dad will like you."
"Okay, I'll eat lots and lots, and Dad will definitely like me."
"Alright, let's go eat something!" Liu Yingying picked up the little girl and headed to the BMW parked on the playground. The car turned and drove out of the school.
Meanwhile, a few people noticed Liu Yingying as they strolled on the school grounds, pointing at the disappearing car.
"That woman is something else."
"Who is she?"
Someone boasted, "She's the eldest daughter of the Liu family in Liancheng, the chairman of Mengsi Company, named Liu Yingying."
"Oh, it's her! We use cosmetics from her company."
The girls exclaimed excitedly.
"Who knew she was our alumna? We should have said hello and gotten acquainted."
The girls regretted.
"You might not know, but this year, many alumni are returning to fundraise for the school. Liu Yingying has pledged eight million, topping the list."
They gasped at the generosity.
"There's going to be a formal donation ceremony after the New Year to honor these outstanding alumni."
"She'll be a shining star at the school."
While they chatted, Ye Feng had already left the school, uninterested in such matters.
He accompanied Luo Yan to Liancheng's largest mall to buy some New Year goods.
