The Prisoner Who Came Back a King
Chapter 8 – Still youthful back then
Although the weather in the south doesn't have heavy snow, it's still quite cold and damp, especially after a drizzle, making people shiver.
The house was empty, not even a quilt. He thought about going out to buy one, but Luo Yan came in just then, bringing him a quilt. After a brief chat, she hurriedly left.
At night, Ye Feng fell asleep under the quilt with a hint of a girl's fragrance, feeling more at peace than ever before.
The next day, Luo Yan came to Ye Feng's place. With her help, they cleaned the house together.
Even though they hadn't seen each other for many years, Luo Yan was much more cheerful after realizing that Ye Feng wasn't the criminal people around had made him out to be.
She talked about her college life, shared some of his past stories from school, and turned into a chatty girl, as if they were back ten years ago.
It took them over an hour to clean the somewhat dilapidated house, and even the air felt refreshed.
"Finally done, Brother Feng, let's go out and shop for New Year's goods," Luo Yan said happily, wiping the sweat from her forehead.
"Sure, let's head out in a bit," Ye Feng replied with a slight smile.
They quickly tidied up, with Luo Yan changing into a fresh casual outfit and putting on a jacket, while Ye Feng still wore his worn-out clothes.
Ye Feng didn't care about others' gazes and rode his electric scooter towards the city center of Liancheng.
Ye Feng's home was originally in the suburbs, not far from the city center, just two or three kilometers away.
The scooter weaved through the traffic and soon entered the bustling city center. Liancheng, in Shenzhou, was just a third-tier city.
After several years of rapid economic development, it had changed significantly, with skyscrapers rising everywhere and a thriving commercial scene.
It could even rival second-tier cities, attracting many well-known domestic enterprises to invest in recent years.
Before Ye Feng went to prison, he was optimistic about Liancheng's development. He had already planned investments in the city, but before he could implement them, he was imprisoned.
Looking at everything before him, it proved that Ye Feng's foresight back then was correct. His ability to predict business trends was one of the key factors in his entrepreneurial success.
Back then, the Ye family had intended to groom Ye Feng as their successor because he was indeed a business prodigy.
Unexpectedly, all this brought him great disaster, as family conflicts led to his five-year imprisonment.
If not for the old man in the depths of Xili Prison who intentionally trained Ye Feng, granting him strength far beyond that of a war god and allowing him to achieve great feats, he would have had no hope of seeing the light of day again.
Just as they entered the bustling city center, Luo Yan suddenly said, "Brother Feng, can you accompany me to school?"
Ye Feng was taken aback but didn't refuse. He then asked, "Why do you want to go to school?"
"I want to visit my old high school homeroom teacher," Luo Yan said softly.
"No problem. Which high school did you graduate from?"
"Hehe, it's your alma mater, Liancheng Experimental High School!"
Luo Yan was diligent and had good grades. She had always looked up to Ye Feng as a role model and dreamed of studying at Experimental High School since she was young.
Later, she got into the school with her excellent grades, but by then, Ye Feng was already in prison.
Hearing Luo Yan's words, Ye Feng hesitated a bit. He didn't really want to go, afraid of facing his former teachers.
Now, with his name still tarnished, what face did he have to meet his old teachers?
Perhaps back then, he was someone the teachers could be proud of.
Now, he would only bring them shame.
Seeing the longing in Luo Yan's eyes, Ye Feng decided to take her there but instructed, "Xiao Yan, I can take you there, but please don't tell the teachers who know me that I'm back."
"Why not?" Luo Yan asked, puzzled.
Ye Feng smiled wryly, "With my current status, what could I possibly say to those teachers?"
Luo Yan pursed her lips, understanding Ye Feng's concerns, and agreed, "Okay!"
The two arrived at Liancheng Experimental High School. Ye Feng let Luo Yan go in first while he parked the scooter at the entrance.
Ye Feng originally didn't plan to go in, but looking through the entrance at the playground inside, memories of those youthful days surged within him.
He couldn't help but walk inside. The security guard at the entrance was a new face, a kind-looking middle-aged man, not the stern, strict old man from before.
Seeing Ye Feng walking in, the guard quickly stopped him and asked, "Who are you, and why are you going in?"
"I'm with the girl who just went in. I used to be a student here and wanted to take a look at my alma mater," Ye Feng replied with a smile.
The guard glanced at Ye Feng. He had noticed Ye Feng was with Luo Yan earlier, so his expression softened.
As the year-end approached, many alumni would return to visit the school and see their former teachers.
So it wasn't unusual, and the guard didn't make things difficult for Ye Feng, stepping aside to let him in.
After Ye Feng walked away, the guard looked at his back and sneered, "People usually come back to school after they've made something of themselves, to visit their teachers. And here's someone riding an electric scooter, dressed so poorly, trying to do the same?"
Ye Feng heard the mocking words behind him but didn't care. It wasn't worth arguing with someone like that.
Over the years, the school hadn't changed much. In front was the grand teaching building, with a large playground in the center, and on the left were the dormitories for teachers and students.
Every corner held traces of those youthful years, and on the playground, he seemed to see the figures chasing each other from back then.
Time flew by, and ten years had passed. The scenes from those days played like a movie in Ye Feng's mind, each moment worth reminiscing.
The innocence remained, but everything else had changed.
The only change in the school was a new teaching building, which he had funded with ten million after graduating from university.
Although the school was on break, there were still quite a few people inside, all returning to relive memories.
These were people who had achieved notable success in society, as evidenced by the array of luxury cars on the playground.
Groups of people came and went from the teacher's dormitory, and there were small groups strolling through the cultural corridor and teaching building.
Unconsciously, Ye Feng found himself at the school's cultural corridor bulletin board. The school used to take pride in him as a top student.
The bulletin board once displayed his photos and stories about his funding of the teaching building, filling an entire section.
Now, there was no trace of him, only school promotions and introductions of outstanding students.
At that moment, several couples approached from behind Ye Feng, the men exuding confidence and the women dressed fashionably.
