Lucas was silent for a moment, thoughtful. He quickly pieced together everything that had happened recently. “So all this high–profile activitytely–it was on purpose? You’re trying to

    lure someone out.”

“Yeah.” Sloane nodded. “They kidnapped me and dumped me in the countryside just to get back at my parents. Now that I’m doing well, there’s no way they’ll just sit back and watch. They’re bound to make a move.”

Lucas frowned even harder. What Sloane was doing might draw the mastermind out–but it also meant putting herself in danger.

“I’ll help you,” he said in a low, steady voice.

Sloane looked up at him and slowly smiled. “Thanks.”

As soon as he got back to the office, Lucas called Andrew in.

“Sir, you asked for me?” Andrew put aside his work and came immediately.

“Get in touch with Huo Yi. Tell him I need two women from the ind. They need to be good in closebat and recon,” Lucas said, voice cold and full of authority.

Andrew nodded right away. “Yes, I’ll contact him now and make arrangements as quickly as possible.”

Lucas gave another nod. “Also, double the people watching Sloane. I want twenty–four–hour surveince in rotating shifts. If anyone suspicious gets near her, report to me immediately.”

Andrew’s expression grew serious. “Understood, President. I’ll handle it myself. Ms. Rivers’s safety will be fully secured.”

After Andrew left, Lucas stood by the floor–to–ceiling window, gazing out with deep eyes.

He knew Sloane’s n was clever–but it also meant she’d be facing off with hidden enemies directly. And he’d never let anyone hurt her.

Final exams wereing up, and Sloane finally had some time to study.

But she’d only just arrived at the library when Jill showed up, walked over, and shut herptop. “Come on, I’m taking you to see someone.”

“See who?” Sloane was dragged out of the library before she could resist.

“Ms. Rivers, hello. I’m Raven, a reporter from the iStonebridge /iiTimes/ii.” /i

Sloane blinked, then politely shook hands. “Hello. What can I do for you?”

Raven smiled and gestured for them to sit. “Actually, Mr. Hawthorne asked me toe. Ms. Rivers, you’ve achieved so much at such a young age–our readers are very curious about your life story. We’d love to feature a profile on you. Would that be alright?”

Sloane immediately understood what Lucas was trying to do. The Rivers family wanted to use her past and her time in the mental hospital against her–so they’d beat them to it and take control of the narrative first.

She gave a slight smile, calm andposed. “Sure.”

A flicker of admiration passed through Raven’s eyes, and she nodded. “Ms. Rivers, you’re very straightforward. Let’s begin, then.”

After the interview, Sloane personally walked Raven out.

Jill stood behind her, muttering, “Everything handled perfectly, and you dumped him like it was nothing. I don’t get it.”

    “What?” Sloane turned around, confused.

“Huh? Nothing,” Jill said quickly. “I just meant Mr. Hawthorne really went out of his way—even arranged the reporter in advance.”

Sloane’s face stayed neutral. “Mm. I should probably thank him properly.”

Jill looked disappointed. Judging by Sloane’s reaction, she probably didn’t have feelings for Lucas.
