    “Lena said the poison in Sloane’s body isn’t immediately fatal,” Samson exined, “but to fully purge it. she had to be taken to her master. She said her master is the only one who can save her.”

    Lucas felt the tight grip on his heart ease-if only slightly. He knew Sloane had a mysterious master whose skills in medicine were unparalleled. But the man was clusive, rarely seen or contacted. Tracking Sloane’s whereabouts now would be nearly impossible, and not being able to see her made his worry ten times

    worse.

    “Did Lena say when they’d be back?” Lucas asked anxiously.

    Samson shook his head. “All she said was that she was taking Sloane for detox treatment. Nothing more.”

    Lucas shut his eyes, guilt tightening in his chest.

    Benjamin hesitated, but finally decided to tell him the truth. “And… the one who poisoned you was Madam Aubrey.”

    Lucas remained silent, his head bowed. Deep down, he had already suspected as much.

    His fingers clenched around the cup in his hand, the knuckles pale with strain.

    A weekter, Lena suddenly appeared at the hospital.

    Lucas stood up instantly, unable to hide his excitement. “You’re back-where’s Sloane?”

    Lena shook her head. “I don’t know. I was only responsible for delivering Miss Sloane to the valley. The master’s residence is extremely secretive. We aren’t allowed inside.”

    Lucas’s heart sank again. “Then… is there any way to contact someone inside? I just want to know how she’s doing.”

    “There isn’t,” Lena replied firmly. “Communication is strictly one-way. We have to wait for them to reach

    out.”

    Lucas’s jaw tightened. He hated this answer, but there was nothing he could do. He didn’t even know where the valley was, let alone how to reach it, Even if he wanted to barge in, he had no way in.

    That helplessness twisted inside him-anger at himself, for failing to protect Sloane.

    Lena then handed him a document folder. “Miss Sloane instructed me to continue investigating Madam Aubrey. She felt something wasn’t right.”

    Lucas took the folder, and as he opened it, a photograph slipped out and fluttered to the ground.

    He bent down and picked it up. The moment he saw the teenage boy in the photo, his brow furrowed deeply.

    The boy wore a high school uniform, looked about seventeen or eighteen-and bore an uncanny resemnce to Madam Aubrey.

    “This boy…” Lucas looked up at Lena, his voice low and strained.

    Lucas pulled out the rest of the documents-ten years’ worth of bank records. Page after page showed massive transfers from Madam Aubrey’s ounts into the woman’s. Every transfer was meticulously documented. The sheer size and duration of the payments were staggering.

    His face turned colder by the second. The truth burned through the page and into his chest.

    Lena slid out the final document. “This is a paternity test report. It confirms that Madam Aubrey… is the boy’s biological mother.”
