Ginnie was the treasured daughter of one of Stonebridge’s four great families-the Lyte family. She had just returned from studying abroad, and since taking over part of the family business, her exceptional talent in the corporate world had been widely recognized.
Lucas, on the other hand, was the head of Hawthorne Corp-young, capable, and ruthless in business. By all appearances, they were a perfect match: beauty and brains, power and prestige.
I heard Ms. Ginnie and Mr. Lucas were nearly engaged five years ago,” someone whispered in the crowd. “But she went abroad, and it got postponed.”
“Yeah, now she’s back, and they’ve been seeing each other more and more. Looks like something’s brewing.”
“No kidding. A union between the Lyte and Hawthorne families? That would reshape the entire businessndscape in Stonebridge.”
Jill overheard and nearly cracked a mr grinding her teeth. “Perfect match? More like blind optimism. Lucas only has Sloane in his heart-what would these people know?”
Without another word, she picked up her pace and cut straight through the crowd toward Lucas and Ginnie.
Cameron let out a sigh and jogged after her.
Jill arrived at their side wearing a pleasant smile, but her eyes carried a flicker of challenge. She tilted her chin ever so slightly and said brightly, “Lucas, so here you are. I’ve been looking all over for you.”
Lucas nced over, his brows rxing slightly. His tone was noticeably softer. “Jill. What are you doing here?”
Jill batted hershes, feigning innocence. “What do you mean? It’s a celebration-how could I miss something this big?”
Ginnie’s smile stiffened as Jill suddenly cut in, but she quickly smoothed her expression and turned gracious. “And you are?”
Jill, Lucas said simply. “Samson’s niece.”
Ginnie nodded, keeping herposure. “Oh, I’ve heard Samson mention you before. It’s lovely to meet you. I’m Ginnie.”
Jill smiled back, her tone carrying a trace of sarcasm. “You must be mistaken. My uncle would never bring
me up in conversation”
Ginnie’s smile faltered. Her eyes flicked to Lucas, silently begging him to say something to case the
moment.
But Lucas simply studied the champagne ss in his hand, as though he hadn’t heard a thing.
Ginnie forced augh and quickly collected herself.

She turned back to Lucas, her voice soft and graceful. “Lucas, since we’re representing both sides of this partnership, shouldn’t we share a dance?”
Lucas’s gaze chilled instantly. His voice was distant, courteous, and firm. “I’m sorry, Ms. Ginnie. I don’t dance.”
Ginnie’s smile froze, a flicker of embarrassment and frustration passing through her eyes.
Jill couldn’t help it-she let out a quiet snort.
Lucas, saying he couldn’t dance, just to turn Ginnie down?
Inside, Jill was thrilled. On the outside, she yed it cool.
Then, with a spark of inspiration, she turned to Cameron. “Cameron, didn’t you say you always wanted to dance with Ms. Ginnie? Well, now’s your chance.”
Cameron blinked, pletely caught off guard, but before he could protest, Jill gave him a hard push forward.
He stumbled and nearly collided with Ginnie, catching his bnce just in time. With a sheepish smile, he said, “Ms. Ginnie, would you do me the honor of a dance?
