CHAPTER 149: CHAPTER 148

Chapter 148

"What are you doing?" Nesa came instantly to her side and pulled her out of the brooding man’s face. "He’s our king." The wolf hissed at Carmen. "He would never hurt the prince."

Carmen eyed the man again. This time, she noticed the red tinge in his eyes, and she automatically got her eyes down. He was just so intimidating. She couldn’t look at him long enough. It was her first time meeting someone so undeniably powerful. It was too much that even if he had his hands by his side, she felt like it was wrapped around her throat.

And she had wondered to herself how dare she block his path in an instant when he attempted to get near the sleeping prince. She felt responsible for the elf’s state. She had to protect him as he did to her and to the others earlier. If it wasn’t for him, getting out of that place seemed impossible.

Hell, they haven’t even broken the wall to the exit tunnel yet, and they were constantly exposed by ABD, so they had no other escape route. She was the only way out, and she wouldn’t be able to do it without the prince’s healing powers. She owed it to him. They owed it to him. So, for the time being, she had to protect him while he was vulnerable. That meant even facing this Wolf Majesty head-on.

But she was thankful for Nesa’s words. She had nothing to worry about then. She sighed in relief. She was about to let herself fall back on the sofa, but a hand was instantly wrapped around her neck, and she hadn’t seen it coming.

Fear immediately enveloped her system as her hands automatically wanted to fight him off, but she hadn’t recovered yet. She couldn’t even stand for too long. It was just an adrenaline of fear that she stood up to protect the elf.

"Alpha King." Nesa was also shocked by his actions. He glanced at her, and that was enough to make her head bow in submission. He growled for her to shut up.

Zek could feel all their hearts beating faster from the tense aura that he was emanating. Even the two men behind him didn’t dare say anything to stop him. No one could, anyway.

"What did you do to him, faerie?" His voice wasn’t loud, wasn’t even thunderous. But he didn’t have to speak loud enough to demand an answer.

"Nothing." His hold in her throat wasn’t that choking. She still had enough room to breathe.

"I guess you haven’t lived long enough to know the significance of Prince Zavien. Whatever you did to him, undo it." He threw her to the side of the elf. She was just thankful that it was the bed she slumped, not the wall.

Her breath hitched, but she felt the coldness from the elf’s body. She hadn’t even touched him. She bet if she laid a finger on his skin, she could be touching ice. Worry furrowed her brows. So, the coldness in the room wasn’t just from the aircon. The prince was exuding it.

She hadn’t looked back up at the wolf king even though he tossed him rudely beside the prince.

"Give back what’s inside you. I can feel him in you. If he dies, I don’t care whatever you did to get them out of there, even if it involves my mate."

She looked at him, and her brows were silently asking what mate he was referring to.

"King Raindell wouldn’t be merciful with you, though they were considered the gentlest race. He values his son more than anything. And elves would surely get back to the Faerie kingdom if they must, just to avenge their prince. Not to mention with my support as well."

Carmen swallowed hard at that. It wasn’t her choice that Zavien did what he did. It was reckless and heroic, but he really did put his life on the line.

"And, one more thing..."

She slowly looked back at the wolf king. She was having a hard time processing what he said already. She didn’t want to hear more.

"You wouldn’t survive that long anyway. Elves and faeries contradict each other. That essence inside you would slowly kill you. I don’t know what Prince Zavien was thinking, but he was poisoning you as well. You’re both killing each other."

Carmen felt the goosebumps all over her body as the chilling fear rushed into her system. So, it was why she felt her heart aching again and again from time to time. And she wasn’t even yet a quarter of her stamina. She wasn’t recovering her powers. She had just been resting, but she could only feel a sliver of her energy. Not even enough to put on a glamour, much less create a vortex to teleport.

"Do you get it now?"

She nodded. She couldn’t trust her voice to sound strong and unaffected by what he said. She gazed back at the sleeping prince. She didn’t blame him for even poisoning her. And she would definitely give it back. She just doesn’t know how.

"Give his life back to him, or you will face consequences when I get back." He gave her one last look and turned around. "Make sure she did it. I’m going out alone." He told Drasco and Gunther. "Don’t ever let the witch outside get out of here. Gandolf would be here soon. I’ll go get Melisca."

He didn’t wait for their replies as he went out the door like his pants were on fire.

A moment after Ezekiel left, everyone exhaled loudly. It was as if their throats had just been released by invisible hands. Their shoulders slumped, but Drasco squared it instantly.

"Gunther, you go guard the witch, I’ll stay here." Drasco stated and the other man nodded.

"Who’s his mate?" Carmen curiously asked Nesa.

"Melisca."

Her eyes bulged and her jaw could have fallen on the floor, but she shut it close immediately. "No way... That man?" She wasn’t sure if she meant it in a bad way or a good way. She was just in shock.

"Better start on your job here, faerie. Our king never bluffs his words." Drasco folded his arms and eyed her like a strict teacher that should’ve already started on her exam.

She didn’t give him any reaction. Instead, she returned her attention to the prince. Sleeping beauty doesn’t even held a candle to the beauty of the man that was laying on the bed with his eyes closed.
