CHAPTER 450: CHAPTER 400 I’M REALLY TOO STUPID

Zhuo Yuqing came out of the restroom and saw Bai Chengxi standing in the corridor on the phone. His back was to her, a lit cigarette held between his long fingers, smoking and listening to the person on the other end of the line.

His figure was slender, his features distinct. Standing under the corridor light, he seemed enveloped in a layer of golden light, his dazzling presence impossible to look away from.

When Zhuo Yuqing was still in school, she loved reading comics, idolizing those handsome guys who were both beautiful and tall. Now, a man who seemed to have stepped out of her imagination was actually her husband; thinking about it all felt so unreal, yet nearly perfect.

Zhuo Yuqing didn’t rush over, instead, she waited for Bai Chengxi to hang up the phone before approaching him softly, "Are you guys done playing?"

He had plenty of beauties at his beck and call, capable of getting whatever type he desired. Yet, in all these years, he had never felt such a strong urge toward any woman,

"Hmm, let’s go back. We have to return to the old house tomorrow."

"Then I’ll go say goodbye to them; my purse is still inside."

He nodded, "I’ll wait for you outside."

Zhuo Yuqing said her farewells to everyone and picked up her purse to leave, just in time to see a tall, young-looking girl stuffing a business card into Bai Chengxi’s jacket pocket, "Mr. Bai, remember me for any future gigs, here’s my number and address. Call me anytime you’re free, I’ll be waiting for you."

"Mr. Bai, I’ll be waiting for your call," she said, gesturing the act of making a phone call.

The girl’s bell-like voice faded away, and Zhuo Yuqing saw Bai Chengxi press the business card deeper into his pocket. Suddenly, her heart felt blocked. Did he have any thoughts about this girl? Otherwise, why wouldn’t he just throw the card away?

As Zhuo Yuqing thought this, her steps slowed, until she heard Bai Chengxi’s voice, "What are you looking at?"

Zhuo Yuqing collected her nerves, Bai Chengxi had naturally taken her hand, his dark gaze seeming to peer into her soul. She hurriedly lowered her eyes, awkwardly struggling to free her hand.

But Bai Chengxi held on tight, and after failing to wriggle free, she grew more annoyed, deciding to ignore him and lowered her head to continue walking ahead.

Bai Chengxi was puzzled by her sudden cold demeanor and had no choice but to keep up with her pace.

Even after getting into the car, Zhuo Yuqing remained silent, turned her face away from Bai Chengxi.

Bai Chengxi saw she was settled and then spoke, "Wait for me a second."

He took a pen out of the car’s storage box, then pulled out a business card from his pocket, blacked out the phone number, got out of the car, and threw the card into a trash can by the roadside.

Zhuo Yuqing had not missed his actions; though she didn’t look at him directly, she had been sneakily watching him from the corner of her eye. After his series of actions, Zhuo Yuqing suddenly felt a bit ashamed,

Zhuo Yuqing once said that she liked gentlemen, and Bai Chengxi undoubtedly met that description perfectly.

When Bai Chengxi got back in the car, the previously sulky Zhuo Yuqing finally looked at him properly, her eyes filled with a tinge of conflict.

"Were you angry just now?" Bai Chengxi reflected on himself; perhaps she had seen that freelance model talking to him and misunderstood something.

Even though he was misunderstood, Bai Chengxi didn’t feel aggrieved at all. On the contrary, he was quite pleased.

"No," Zhuo Yuqing quickly denied, originally wanting to apologize but feeling her reasons were insufficient, as the more she thought about it, the more she felt that her behavior just now was like being jealous.

On the way home, she comforted herself; he was her husband, and it was only natural for her to dislike him being close to other women, which shouldn’t be related to jealousy, right?

When they arrived home, Bai Chengxi changed his clothes and then went into the kitchen. Neither of them had eaten much that evening, and now they were both a bit hungry.

"Do you need help?" In traditional beliefs, cooking seems to always be women’s domain, but nowadays, more and more men are also becoming active in the kitchen. It’s not that they have too much spare time, but because cooking is also a way to show love for one’s wife.

Zhuo Yuqing didn’t know why Bai Chengxi learned to cook, but seeing such a handsome man standing under the range hood, she felt it was a very pleasing view,

"No need, go take a shower," Bai Chengxi waved the spatula in his hand, "Come to eat after you’re done."

"Let me help you do something," Zhuo Yuqing still entered, seeing him slicing ham and offered, "I can help you with that. I know how."

Bai Chengxi looked at her skeptically; the water in the pot had boiled, so he put down the kitchen knife, "Then go ahead, I’ll cook the noodles."

"Alright, leave it to me." Zhuo Yuqing was very happy to be able to help him; she didn’t want to be seen as someone who is only waited on, that would make her feel useless.

Bai Chengxi was putting noodles into the pot when he suddenly heard a sigh behind him. Turning around quickly, he saw Zhuo Yuqing cradling her bleeding finger, looking at him with a face full of grievance.

"How could you be so careless." Bai Chengxi hurriedly pulled her hand over and rinsed the blood under the faucet. As he watched the red stream get sucked into the drain, Zhuo Yuqing pursed her lips apologetically: "I’m sorry, Bai Chengxi, I’m really so clumsy."

She just wanted to help share the load and do her best, but every time it ended up in such an embarrassing state—a scalded hand the last time and a cut this time. Why did her intelligence, which she took great pride in, seem utterly useless in the kitchen?

"No need to apologize; it’s the same for anyone who cooks." After Bai Chengxi cleaned her wound, he led her to sit down on the sofa and fetched a band-aid from the bedroom to dress it.

His careful and considerate actions made Zhuo Yuqing’s eyes moisten, and she felt even more useless.

"Bai Chengxi, you are making fun of me." Zhuo Yuqing pouted.

"Bai Chengxi..." As a result, it brought on his hearty laughter.

In the end, Zhuo Yuqing was still of no help. Eating the noodles he cooked, she praised their deliciousness as she enjoyed them.

"Bai Chengxi, who else besides me has tasted your cooking?" Zhuo Yuqing didn’t mean anything else by this; she just wanted to find someone who shared her perspective.

Bai Chengxi fell silent at this, his dark eyes deep and inscrutable, not knowing what he was thinking. It was only after a while that he said, "Your hand is injured; I’ll wash the dishes later."

"That’s okay; I can just wear gloves." Zhuo Yuqing shoved another bite of noodles into her mouth, "You’ve already worked hard cooking; leave the menial tasks to me."

Before going to bed that night, Zhuo Yuqing was reading news on her tablet when she suddenly remembered something and hurriedly jumped out of bed to rummage through the wardrobe.

After Bai Chengxi had finished work in the study, he entered the room only to find Zhuo Yuqing sitting on the floor, head lowered, searching for something.

"What are you looking for?" he asked curiously.

"I remember I bought a new dress last month; tomorrow is the thirtieth, and we’re supposed to wear new clothes, right?" Zhuo Yuqing has been so busy recently that she didn’t have time to shop for new clothes. She wanted to make do with something previously purchased but couldn’t find it no matter how much she searched.

"No need to search any more." Bai Chengxi helped her get up from the floor.

Zhuo Yuqing scratched her head: "Then I’ll go buy a new set tomorrow."

"You don’t need to buy one either." His expression was enigmatic, and Zhuo Yuqing couldn’t guess what he was thinking, "Come here."

Bai Chengxi took her hand and led her into the fitting room inside, gesturing with his lips towards the wardrobe: "Open it and see."

"What?"

"You’ll know when you see it."

With a belly full of curiosity, Zhuo Yuqing walked over and slid the glass wardrobe door open. She stared in amazement at the neatly hung new dresses, pointing incredulously: "Are these all for me?"

"Do you think I’d wear dresses?"

Zhuo Yuqing joyfully took out one of the dresses. The brand had always been her favorite, and it looked just her size, "Did you buy all these?"

"Do you like them?"

"I love them." Zhuo Yuqing was both happy and excited, and a bit shy: "Why did you buy me clothes?"

"Didn’t you say a few days ago that you were too busy to go shopping? So, I asked my secretary to buy all of the new arrivals from this brand. You really like their clothes, don’t you?" Bai Chengxi leaned against a cabinet behind him, his expression calm and eyes reflecting her joy, "Just pick any one to wear tomorrow."

Zhuo Yuqing would be lying if she said she wasn’t touched. She hadn’t expected Bai Chengxi to be so attentive; a casual remark she made was taken to heart and he had even bought the whole new collection from the store for her.

He remembered so clearly what brand she normally wore, while she seemed not to pay attention to such details at all, only knowing that sometimes he likes to wear suits, sometimes casual wear; he seems to like khaki and perhaps black as well.

With these thoughts, Zhuo Yuqing felt a deep sense of shame. Isn’t understanding her husband part of being a good wife?

Right, there’s also the tie; she hadn’t found the opportunity to give him the tie she had bought him the last time.
