Chapter 113: Sunday Meeting

Sunday night, Realm Between, the ruined town.

The lanterns dangled from the ceiling of the pagoda, shining light on the mirror table and the faces of the Society of Knowers.

"Honestly, it was only a matter of time until the World Tree fell. Their advantage was that it was hard for Rav'akari to send too many reinforcements to attack it."

Alec said with a sigh.

Melia brought them news of the World Tree falling to Rav'akari. They all knew already about the Siege of the World Tree, except Aren.

It was new to him, and he was quite curious about it, as he didn't even know there were elves in this world.

Realm Elves had their own name for their race, but since they looked like fantasy elves, the humans decided to call them as such.

"The expedition. That is indeed quite an insane idea. There is no way that will end in success."

Eron Mordant, the Crow, said.

"World Tree is far from Sefirah Zero. It will take Rav'akari many cycles to get there. Months even, and that will be plenty of time for the Guild to prepare their expedition."

Morgana said.

"What if the Queen breaks before getting to Sefirah Zero? I don't believe that they won't try to break her chain."

Rune said.

"I don't know. There are still many questions in hand. It's just a lot of uncertainty right now."

Melia said with a sigh.

"Shall we check out the mirror now?"

Morgana asked, and everyone agreed as they finished talking about the World Tree.

She had something interesting to show in Kornacis. It interested Aren, as he was also now living there and knew that Morgana did as well.

'…I know that her friend owns some doll shop. I might be able to find Morgana if I really spend my time looking for her.'

Aren thought.

In that moment, Morgana showed the courtyard of one of the houses belonging to a subsidiary noble family—the Barber Family.

It was a subsidiary family of the Kornacis.

The courtyard looked normal. It had a fountain in the middle. A stone bench was placed next to the fountain, and there were flowers blooming along the pathway.

In that moment, Morgana zoomed the mirror through the fountain. To all their shock, there was a mass grave under the fountain.

"A mass grave?"

Melia asked in surprise.

"Tom Barber, the head of the Barber family, has been killing lost travelers and burying them in the garden for years. Years!"

Morgana said with a smile.

It was, of course, horrible news, and she didn't smile because she thought it was funny but because they had perfect blackmail material now.

Tom Barber was a wealthy man. It was why the Kornacis Yard hadn't really paid attention to his doings.

It was somewhat of a public secret already that Tom Barber had been doing something shady, as pedestrians had seen people enter his house and disappear without a trace.

Yesterday, she came to the mirror table to investigate the Barber family's house. She went through everything, and she thought that she wouldn't find anything, but then decided to check the fountain.

And there it was, the mass grave, and she almost passed out at the sight of it at first, but after fanning herself and taking a few deep breaths, she calmed herself down.

"I know the Barber family. They're only a subsidiary family, but apparently they have been hiring Blessed Ones as guards."

Lyrian said.

"I don't like you going there alone, Starface. It's too dangerous, especially knowing that Tom Barber is now a murderer. He will just kill you and bury you with the rest."

Melia said with a serious frown.

"…Is anyone willing to come with me?"

Morgana asked and looked at the people around the mirror table, but no one showed desire to accompany her.

"…"

Aren stayed silent, as he didn't want others to really know that he was currently in Kornacis, and meeting with Morgana was definitely not happening.

'…I could go meet Tom Barber by myself. It's dangerous to go alone, though.'

"I thought you guys would be as excited as me… I am sure Tom Barber would pay a lot for me to keep quiet. Is anyone else not interested in that potential wealth?"

Morgana asked.

While Melia stayed quiet, she was in need of money, as one day, she wanted to take her little sister out of Chalicegate, as it was a dangerous place to live.

She wanted her little sister to have a good life. Thus, she wanted to move closer to the center of the human territory and perhaps buy an estate and land that was just going to be for two of them.

Being Chainkeeper of the Chalicegate was an important job, but it didn't really pay much, and it was a thankless job.

She could most likely earn more from the Guild's mission, but since she was Whitesky born, it was hard for her to get accepted there.

Thus, Chainkeepers were mostly Whitesky citizens who ended up being blessed. There were few Earthlings, but not that many.

"…I think we should focus on Otto Harwest first. He is of Harwest family, which is more powerful family than Barber, and they've also been hiring Blessed Ones.

"I think his secret is more of an embarrassing nature, and he definitely doesn't want that to get leaked, and therefore, I believe he pays without resorting to violence."

Melia said.

While disappointed, Morgana nodded, and then for a few hours after that, other members of the Society of Knowers checked other things in the mirror.

They were done about ten in the night, and it was about time to head back to the Whitesky as this week's meeting was about to conclude.

In that moment, Aren said.

"I am in search of something."

"Yes, my lord, what is it?"

Melia asked.

Everyone turned their gaze at his faceless self, and then he said.

"I am looking for an item. A specific item that can block people from seeing my Mind Image. Is that anyway possible if I am willing to pay a lot?"
