CHAPTER 476: CHAPTER 476: TO WANT AND TO DEMAND

The traffic officer shook his head and replied firmly.

"That’s not acceptable. Driving without a license is illegal—it’s not something money can resolve."

At that moment, Yan Hanlu panicked completely. She quickly grabbed Shen Chengbao’s arm and said.

"Quick, call your wife! She’s the provincial TV station director; she can definitely save me!"

"Are you crazy? How could I go to her with something like this?"

"She already knows about our relationship. Just tell her the truth."

Hearing their conversation, Ma Juan finally understood what was going on.

So the two of them were messing around behind her back!

Soon after, the traffic officer processed the responsibility for the accident: the Audi side was fully at fault.

Looking at the dented rear of the Rolls-Royce, Shen Chengbao felt a sharp jolt of panic.

He hadn’t insured the car, and he had no money for compensation.

Before he could scold Yan Hanlu, she was already taken away by the traffic officer.

Before leaving, Yan Hanlu cried and shouted.

"I’m pregnant! If you don’t save me, you’ll never get to see your child again!"

Once the matter was settled, Ma Juan instructed the driver to take the car to a repair shop.

After sleeping through the night at home, the next day she bought some toys for Zhao Nianbing and headed over to Zhao Xinmei’s house.

Li Mengying hadn’t left long ago, and Zhao Xinmei had spent the night indulging with Chen Bin. Now her face radiated a look of satisfaction, glowing with charm.

Seeing this, Ma Juan couldn’t help but marvel.

"Godmother, how do you maintain yourself? Your skin looks better and better."

Glancing instinctively at Chen Bin, Ma Juan answered lightly.

"I’m old; I don’t know anything about maintenance. I just practice yoga from time to time."

"I see. Looks like I’d better start learning yoga too, so certain people don’t neglect me in the future."

While speaking, Ma Juan cast a playful glance at Chen Bin.

Chen Bin, on the other hand, looked a bit helpless, as if he hadn’t done anything from start to finish.

In the following hours, the group sat on the sofa chatting.

Especially when they brought up last night’s events, Ma Juan became visibly upset.

Chen Bin chuckled and reassured her, "In a big world like this, you’ll run into all sorts. Don’t let it get to you."

At that point, Ma Juan suddenly laughed as if remembering something.

"Oh, when the traffic officer was about to detain her, she claimed her lover’s wife is the provincial TV station director. She might even be your boss, you know."

Intrigued, Chen Bin quickly asked, "What are their names?"

"The man’s name is Shen Chengbao, and the woman’s name is Yan Hanlu."

In a flash, an image of Yan Hanlu singing resurfaced in Chen Bin’s mind.

He couldn’t believe that woman was fooling around with Lan Hui’s husband.

To ensure no mistakes, Chen Bin sent a message to Cheng Zhuang, asking him to investigate the three people involved.

During the New Year, Lan Hui had been staying at Tao Qian’s place.

She didn’t return home until the provincial TV station officially resumed work.

Shen Chengbao had wanted to contact Lan Hui earlier, but he didn’t want to ruin her good time with Tao Qian.

He had endured for several days, waiting till Lan Hui finally came home.

"Honey, thank goodness you’re back!"

Shen Chengbao took Lan Hui’s bag and helped her remove her down jacket.

After Lan Hui sat on the sofa, he immediately handed her a cup of hot water infused with jasmine flowers.

"It’s freezing outside. Drink some water to warm up."

Knowing Shen Chengbao well, Lan Hui realized he must want something from her.

So she asked directly, "Spit it out—what do you need?"

"Nothing, you’re my wife. It’s only right for me to take care of you."

"Nothing, huh?" Lan Hui stared into Shen Chengbao’s eyes.

"Really, I just missed you."

Having been doted on by Tao Qian for several days in a row, Lan Hui showed little interest in Shen Chengbao’s aging face. She got up and went straight to the bedroom.

However, just as she lay in bed, Shen Chengbao pushed the door open and walked in.

"Honey, it’s been ages since we’ve done it. How about tonight..."

Before he could finish, Lan Hui picked up a pillow and threw it at him.

"Get out of here!"

"No way! Tonight, I’m going to find that spark we used to have!"

With those words, Shen Chengbao pressed himself onto Lan Hui.

She only offered a token resistance before giving up the struggle.

After it was over, Lan Hui closed her eyes and asked, still savoring the moment.

"Alright, tell me what you need my help with."

Lighting a cigarette, Shen Chengbao took a deep drag and recounted the rear-ending incident involving Ma Juan.

Lan Hui snapped her eyes open in surprise and exclaimed.

"You’re not seriously asking me for money, are you?"

"It’s not just money. Yan Hanlu’s been detained by the traffic officers. You have connections—any chance you could help get her out?"

Lan Hui grabbed the pillow and hit Shen Chengbao repeatedly.

"You bastard! You dare to come to me with something like this? What do you take me for?!"

Unable to evade her blows, Shen Chengbao left the bedroom and spent the night in the guestroom.

Early the next morning, Hong Ke arrived at Lan Hui’s office to report work.

Noticing her unpleasant expression, he asked directly.

"Sister Hui, what’s wrong?"

Hong Ke was Lan Hui’s close confidant. Despite their superior-subordinate dynamic, they spoke freely about almost everything.

Sighing, Lan Hui recounted what had happened the night before.

"That bastard Shen Chengbao spends my money on women outside, and now he’s asking me to help bail one of them out. It’s just outrageous!"

"That really is too much. Did you end up agreeing to help him?"

"I wasn’t going to at first, but as I was heading out for work this morning, he actually knelt down and begged me. After all these years of marriage, I couldn’t hold firm—I caved and agreed."

Hearing this, Hong Ke didn’t press the matter further.

After a bit more small talk, Lan Hui changed the topic.

"It’s been three years since your illness started. Are you planning to go for surgery or stick with conservative treatment?"

"I’ve decided on surgery! I’ve already looked into it—the director of Yanxi University’s first affiliated hospital is the nation’s leading brain specialist. The only catch is, she’s officially retired from performing surgeries. What am I supposed to do?"

"Probably just looking for an excuse to charge more money."

"Not at all. I’ve asked around—Yuan Qian really has stopped doing surgeries."

"Then maybe try a different doctor?"

"I’ll figure it out when the time comes. Luckily, my condition isn’t super critical."

After leaving Lan Hui’s office, Hong Ke hesitated for a moment before seeking out Chen Bin.

"Chen Tai, are you busy?"

Surprised by Hong Ke’s sudden appearance, Chen Bin looked intrigued but responded courteously.

"Not at all. Please, come in and have a seat."

Taking a deep breath, Hong Ke, his face clouded with concern, asked.

"Chen Tai, I hear you know the Provincial Committee Secretary well. Could you help me get in touch with Yuan Qian, the director at Yanxi University’s first affiliated hospital?"
