CHAPTER 35: CHAPTER 35 BROTHER IS BACK

The female lead was finally determined, and the male and female supporting roles were also basically in place, Qin Jiran became increasingly busy. Although he still squeezed time to cook dinner for her, the time the two spent together had noticeably decreased.

The most troubling thing for Su Yanyi was the eight points she had accumulated for completing the mission. What should she do about the remaining two points?

"Can the Special Assistance Function help me figure out a way to make Qin Jiran laugh?" Ever since she used the Special Assistance Function to find the female lead last time, Su Yanyi still had expectations of it.

"Dear owner, that won’t be possible. The Special Assistance Function can only play an auxiliary role and cannot directly complete system tasks for you," Zero Zero One said with its little head shaking, unabashedly refusing.

Su Yanyi felt somewhat disappointed, but it was within expectations; otherwise, the system missions would be too meaningless.

The phone rang, and it seemed it was Mother Su calling.

"Mom, what’s up?" Su Yanyi’s tone towards her own mother wasn’t overly enthusiastic, but there was a slight softness in her otherwise indifferent voice.

"Can’t mother call you if there’s no issue? I have to say, a woman needs to be gentle, that’s how you get a man to like you. You’ve been with Jiran for so long, and you’re still so cold. Isn’t he going to tire of you?" Mother Su’s words were naturally said in jest, but the complaint in her tone was unmistakable. With her lively nature, even Father Su was considered tolerable, so she really didn’t understand why her son and daughter were as cold as two icebergs, oh, and her son-in-law too, his ice-cold demeanor was a real concern. It was almost like their entire family was being taken over by icebergs.

"He won’t," Su Yanyi said very confidently and assertively. In her previous life, even when she’d become bed-ridden and unable to move, that man had never grown tired of her, caring for her meticulously. Now that she was treating him so well, there was no way she could be disdained.

Mother Su rolled her eyes on the other end of the call. Even if Qin Jiran really didn’t mind, where on earth did her daughter get such peerless confidence?

"Yanyi, bring Jiran home for dinner tonight, your brother is back," Mother Su stopped teasing her daughter and revealed the purpose of the call.

"Okay." Su Yanyi had been wanting to talk to Su Yanmo for a while now.

After hanging up the phone, Su Yanyi called Qin Jiran. He was in a meeting with key members of the crew, but when he heard the ringtone he had set for Su Yanyi, he picked up immediately, signaled to everyone that he had personal matters to attend to, then stepped aside.

"Yanyi." Qin Jiran didn’t bother to ask if anything was wrong and simply greeted her before waiting for her to speak.

"Let’s go home together for dinner tonight, is that okay?" Su Yanyi felt good after saying this. Her mother said she wasn’t gentle enough, yet now she even knew to seek Qin Jiran’s opinion; how could she not be gentle?

If it were the former Su Yanyi, she wouldn’t have asked, "is that okay?" So, she was indeed very pleased with her own progress.

"Okay." For Qin Jiran, Su Yanyi asking for his opinion wasn’t really asking, it meant he couldn’t disagree. But in his mind, Su Yanyi had always been so assertive and dominant, not allowing for any questioning. Of course, he had never thought about refusing anyway.

In the evening, Qin Jiran drove Su Yanyi back to the Su Family Mansion. The two of them seldom returned home together, especially Qin Jiran, who rarely visited. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to come, but rather it seemed that Su Yanyi didn’t like him coming.

After opening the car door for Su Yanyi, she didn’t go straight in as before. Instead, she stood by the car waiting for Qin Jiran, which surprised him somewhat. He quickened his pace to reach her and stood by her side.

In the old mansion, Grandfather Su, Father Su, Mother Su, Big Brother Su, and Wang Zhirou were all present. Noticing the detail of the two walking in side by side, their expressions varied.

"Grandfather, Father, Mother, Big Brother," Su Yanyi greeted first, sitting down on the sofa to one side. As for the presence of Wang Zhirou, she outright ignored her, but her obvious disregard didn’t surprise anyone. During past family gatherings, Su Yanyi had behaved similarly—as if in her eyes, Wang Zhirou and Qin Jiran were not members of this family. Only now, Wang Zhirou was the only one left out.

Wang Zhirou was sitting beside Su Yanmo, a trace of gloom flashing in her eyes, but she masked it well and continued to smile gently, as if it didn’t bother her at all.

Qin Jiran also followed with his greetings, saying reservedly, "Grandfather, Father-in-law, Mother-in-law, Big Brother."

Given that Su Yanyi had ignored her, he naturally followed Su Yanyi’s lead. Thinking of what Wang Zhilin had done that he uncovered during his investigation, he held no fond feelings towards the Wang Family members.

The Su Family members certainly noticed the couple’s indifference towards Wang Zhirou, yet no one said anything.

The customs of the Su Family could be somewhat trapping. Su Family members could only become fully independent after marriage; otherwise, they had to obediently follow the elders’ wishes. Once married, regardless of what you do, the elders can’t, and won’t, interfere, which has led to the children of the Su family marrying early—but only marrying early.

Father Su and Mother Su were in love because of mutual feelings, but it was evident that Big Brother Su and Su Yanyi had married to fulfill a Su family rule. The Su Family members were aware of these circumstances, so it was inevitable that Wang Zhirou and Qin Jiran were overlooked.

However, the Su Family’s attitude towards these two was somewhat different. At least, Father Su and Mother Su wouldn’t tell Big Brother Su to bring Wang Zhirou home, and their attitude towards Wang Zhirou was rather indifferent, but their attitude towards Qin Jiran was much better.

Mother Su would privately express concern about Su Yanyi’s marital life but remained silent about Big Brother Su’s marital life. It was clear that the Su Family members were quite satisfied with Qin Jiran, but the same could not be said for Wang Zhirou.

"Jiran, have a seat. You must be hungry by now, dinner is about to be served," said Mother Su, the person in the Su family who liked Qin Jiran the most, warmly inviting him.

"Okay," replied Qin Jiran, sitting down next to Su Yanyi. They appeared close, yet he kept a slight distance, without any physical contact with Su Yanyi. This was indeed the way they interacted—seemingly intimate, yet always maintaining a distance between them.

Mother Su noticed this and frowned slightly. After three years, the couple was still in such a state. She had thought that since her daughter agreed to make the relationship public, there should have been some change between them. But now it seemed that the situation was still not quite satisfying.

Mother Su was somewhat worried. When could she see her daughter and son-in-law loving each other dearly? Oh, and her son too, but at the thought of her daughter-in-law, Mother Su grew even more concerned. Although her daughter’s marriage also had issues, her son’s marriage was more than just problematic. Both she and her husband felt that the Wang Family’s daughter truly wasn’t suitable for their eldest son.
