Chapter 681: Chapter 719: Could This Really Be True?

After a moment of passion, Sunny Nguyen leaned weakly against James Brown’s chest, the two of them still maintaining their previous intimate posture. James sat on the couch, while Sunny was seated on his lap, her back to him, with a certain part of them still joined together.

James gently kissed Sunny’s earlobe and said with a grin, “I remember someone was afraid Gina might get angry, so why so wild just now?”

Sunny, too exhausted to open her eyes, relished the satisfaction and joy from earlier, not caring about James’s teasing. She lazily replied, “You came to me willingly, so don’t blame me.”

James laughed, “You’re good at shoving the blame away, huh?”

Sunny, still with her eyes closed, but speaking seriously, said, “Of course, a good friend’s husband can’t be taken. You forced me, so it has nothing to do with me. I would never steal my good friend’s husband.”

James chuckled at her self-deception but didn’t want to expose her, holding her quietly.

Just then, Sunny’s phone rang, startling her. It was on the coffee table, and James reached over to hand it to her without glancing at the screen.

Seeing the caller ID, Sunny quickly turned and said to James nervously, “Don’t make a sound. It’s Gina calling.”

His wife calling should have made James nervous, but he surprisingly remained at ease, lighting a cigarette while keeping an arm around Sunny’s waist.

Sunny did not get up. She answered the call, “Gina, what’s the matter so late?”

Gina’s tone was concerned, “Sister Sunny, you didn’t work overtime tonight, did you?”

Sunny hesitated before saying, “I’m still at the office. Going home early means being alone, so I’m more comfortable here doing some extra work.”

“You can’t always push yourself like this. There’s a lot of work, but it’s not that urgent.”

“Hehe, I’m used to it. It keeps me busy and feeling good. You don’t have to worry about me.”

“James is covering at the office tonight. Have you seen him?”

Gina suddenly mentioned James, making Sunny very uneasy. She quickly replied, “I haven’t seen him yet.”

“You haven’t seen him? Could he have sneaked off to see some other woman? That bastard said he was covering a shift tonight.”

Sunny was exasperated. She meant to excuse herself but inadvertently implicated James. That was definitely not acceptable, so she quickly said, “Oh, there he is. He just walked in. Do you want to talk to him?”

Gina chuckled, “Sister Sunny, you’re being suspicious. First, you said he wasn’t there, now he is. Are you two up to no good behind my back?”

Sunny’s heart raced with tension, stammering, “No… no.”

Her guilty tone gave her away. Gina, no longer the naive girl, sensed something amiss between Sunny and James, feeling slightly bitter but not angry. She softly said, “Sister Sunny, let James spend some quality time with you. You’ve been working so hard lately. I know you’re lonely at home, so you bury yourself in work. Anything I’ve ever told you stands true. Do you really not believe me?”

“I…” Sunny knew what Gina meant and felt confused, unsure of what to say.

“Hand the phone to James.” Gina instructed.

Sunny quickly passed the phone, which felt like a hot potato, to James. James took the call and said, “Gina, I…”

“Honey, spend some time with Sister Sunny tonight. She’s had it tough. If not for me, perhaps you two would be together. I’ve always felt indebted to her, so I’m not concerned with whatever happens between you two.”

“This… Honey…” James gave a wry smile, unsure of what to say.

“I’m telling you, use the skills you usually deal with me on Sarah. I’ll ask Sister Sunny later, and if you don’t serve her well, I’ll settle accounts with you.”

“Hey, honey, don’t tease me, okay?”

“Who’s teasing you? I’m being serious. Alright, I won’t disturb you two then. Just feel free tonight, I won’t mind.” Emma Campbell finished speaking and actually hung up the phone with a giggle.

Sunny Nguyen was right in front of James Brown, and she heard what Emma Campbell said clearly. Emma Campbell hadn’t mentioned this just once or twice, but Sunny Nguyen never believed it was true. If the tables were turned, she certainly wouldn’t be as generous as Emma Campbell. If she could be that generous, she wouldn’t have had to divorce her ex-husband.

James Brown was still holding the phone to his ear, feeling a bit disoriented. He never thought Emma Campbell would say something like that. Wasn’t that too generous? Could it be that his wife was truly broad-minded?

At this time, it wasn’t just Sunny Nguyen who was stunned; even James Brown was a bit dumbfounded. Emma Campbell had tolerated Charlotte in the past because Charlotte’s parents suddenly passed away, and she had been in an unstable mental state. It was out of sympathy that Emma Campbell allowed her to stay at their home. Then there was Emma, which James Brown had been striving for from the start. Emma Campbell had to agree whether she liked it or not. But now with Sunny Nguyen, Emma Campbell seemed just as willing. Did she honestly not care about her husband?

“Um… James, this with Emma…” Sunny Nguyen turned her head and looked at James Brown, her mouth twitching slightly.

James Brown shook his head and said, “Don’t ask me. I’m confused myself.”

Sunny Nguyen looked at James Brown’s confused expression and suddenly laughed, saying, “You are really lucky to have such a wife.”

James Brown forced a laugh and said, “I really don’t know what Emma is thinking.”

Sunny Nguyen’s smile grew wider, and she said, “Then don’t think about it. All I know now is that if we are like this, as long as she doesn’t get mad at us, it’s fine.” She gave a little twist of her hips and snatched James Brown’s cigarette, extinguishing it. Then she said, “Just now wasn’t fun enough, let’s go again.”

James Brown laughed heartily and said, “Sure, who’s afraid of whom!”

This time, Sunny Nguyen let loose even more wildly than before, to the point that James Brown was a bit stunned by her audacity. But the feeling was extraordinarily delightful, so he just stopped thinking and thoroughly enjoyed this wonderful sensation with Sunny Nguyen.

Over an hour later, James Brown came downstairs with a cigarette in his mouth. Honest John Davis and John Davis had already prepared some quick snacks and were waiting for James Brown to eat.

“Hey, I say, Manager Johnson, your ‘inspection’ sure took a long time,” Honest John Davis winked at James Brown with a face full of a teasing smile.

James Brown sat down at the table, glaring, and said, “Don’t look at me with those lewd eyes.”

Honest John Davis chuckled and said, “Ms. Director is very attractive and a divorced woman. She’s at a prime time for that kind of desire, and you took so long up there. Don’t tell me you did nothing.”

John Davis also gave a mischievous smile and said, “Yeah, I’ve heard you and Director Green were in the same company before. When her ex-husband and your wife came to cause trouble for her, you stood up and drove them away. You two were so close back then, how can there be no relationship now?”

James Brown stubbed out his cigarette, picked up his chopsticks, took a bite of food, and said with a smile, “Yeah, your guess is spot on. I was just hanging out with Director Green. What do you think? Are you envious?”

“Seriously?” Honest John Davis and John Davis weren’t convinced when they saw James Brown admit it. They stared at him suspiciously.

James Brown shrugged and said, “If I say nothing happened, you definitely won’t believe it, so I might as well say something did happen.”

Honest John Davis chuckled again and said, “We’re just joking around. Who doesn’t know you’re into Sarah Utah? After all, Sarah is a young lady. No matter how good Director Green is, she’s still divorced. She’s not as good as Sarah. You’ve already got Sarah, so naturally, you can’t have anything with Director Green.”

John Davis nodded repeatedly beside him.

James Brown glared and said, “It’s fine to joke around in our security office, but if you spread it outside, it doesn’t matter whether it affects me or not. As men, we’re not afraid of gossip. But Director Green, as a woman who’s just divorced, fears these kinds of rumors the most, so let’s not ruin her reputation.”

Honest John Davis and John Davis nodded repeatedly, with Honest John Davis saying, “We know, we’re just joking with you. Ms. Director is indeed a good person, and we wouldn’t really gossip about her. It’s only because it’s you, Manager Johnson. If it were someone else, we wouldn’t joke about Director Green. He wouldn’t deserve it.”

These two guys admired James Brown after the last incident, so they didn’t take his words lightly. For matters like these, they were just making jokes with James Brown. After all, among men, it’s common to talk about women.
