Chapter 1543: Chapter 1665: Be More Explicit
At the dining table, everyone was enthusiastic and appropriately attentive to Ye Ranran’s feelings, allowing Ye Ranran to gradually relax.
She thought she was truly lucky, as problems like those between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law had not happened to her.
“I’m done, I’ll go pack.” After finishing her meal, Ye Ranran stood up and walked towards the kitchen.
Before dinner, she had specifically told Huo’s mother to leave some food for her to pack for Jun Mochan.
She packed the food into containers bit by bit. She used to disdain doing such things, but now that she was doing it, she didn’t mind, instead, she felt a sense of happiness.
Just as she was halfway through, Huo’s mother walked in: “Need any help?”
“No need, mom, I can handle this myself.” Ye Ranran didn’t even lift her head, her tone casual yet intimate.
Upon hearing this, Huo’s mother felt a mix of emotions. The Ye Ranran of the past had never spoken to her in such a tone, maintaining respect but also keeping a distance.
More than strangers, yet less than family — a perfect distance to avoid harming herself or others.
She knew it was her past actions that left Ye Ranran cold, but she didn’t feel she had done anything wrong.
Now that she’s a mother too, she must understand her.
“Does Ranran have any good friends around her?” Huo’s mother asked while washing dishes.
Hearing the sound of running water, Ye Ranran looked up and saw Huo’s mother washing dishes herself. Her gaze was a bit unusual, but she said nothing.
“No, why?”
“Oh, your big brother is still unmarried. When you have time, try to persuade him not to be so stubborn and find someone suitable to marry,” Huo’s mother sighed.
The oddity in Ye Ranran’s mind finally surfaced: “Why me?”
Isn’t she his mother? Wouldn’t it be more appropriate for her to persuade him? It’s not suitable for her to meddle too much with her brother-in-law, right?
Huo’s mother thought for a moment and decided it was okay to tell her. After all, Jun Mochan hadn’t said not to, so she bit her lip and said, “He still has feelings for you. After you had an accident, he never stopped looking. Now he’s always single, and it’s obvious what he’s thinking.”
Huo’s mother’s words left Ye Ranran unable to process them, her brain briefly freezing: “Mom, what are you saying? Can you explain a bit more clearly?”
“You and Ah Yi had a thing, but it didn’t work out. Coincidentally, you ended up with Xiao Han. At first, I wasn’t too agreeable, but since Xiao Han was insistent, I had no choice. I never expected the eldest to always have you on his mind and to never marry later. You…”
“Mom, what nonsense are you talking about? That was ages ago; why bring it up now?” Huo Yi was suddenly at the kitchen doorway, his gaze as cold and hard as ice: “My affairs have nothing to do with her, don’t speculate wildly.”
“How is it unrelated? Then why have you never married?” Huo’s mother pushed.
She also knew it wasn’t Ye Ranran’s fault; she hadn’t stopped Huo Yi from remarrying, nor had she done anything wrong. She was just asking her to persuade him, nothing more.
Why was he so tense?
Huo Yi no longer paid attention to Huo’s mother. He turned his head to look at Ye Ranran, who was still standing there dazed, yet to recover.
“Don’t think too much. Our past is behind us. We were young then, and nothing happened. It doesn’t count,” Huo Yi thought for a moment and said.
Who hasn’t been young and reckless? Who hasn’t had a relationship or two? What’s past is past, and life goes on, doesn’t it?
“Got it, I understand.” Ye Ranran picked up the packed food container and hurriedly walked out.
