CHAPTER 495: YOU DIDN’T LOVE HER

Moments later, after Raziel took Elysia to Netheralis, he returned to Draconia. He didn’t know why, but something was drawing him.

He needed answers, a clue about what Elysia had been up to while she was here. His senses picked up on something; it was subtle, but it had a similar presence to his wife.

Raziel teleported and found himself at the queen dowager’s place, specifically, next to the nursery. He could smell the strong scent of a newborn barely weeks old.

His heart squeezed. He didn’t want to accept the possibility.

It was late, and no one could hear his footsteps as Raziel made his way towards the source of the scent, wrapped in his wife’s aura. His hands were clenched, his mind told him to back away, but he did not.

Loud baby cries tore through the silence of the night when he arrived at the door. He teleported into the room, and the cries grew louder. Then he realised he wasn’t the only one who came to see Cedric that night.

Standing next to the crib was Kaiden. He recognised the man whose scent lingered on Elysia. The man who bore a child with his Elysia.

His first instinct was to kill Kaiden. Every part of his body was itching to do it. His jaw clenched, he was doing his bloody best not to touch the bastard.

He came closer to Kaiden, who was just staring at baby Cedric, completely unaware he wasn’t alone. There was no way Kaiden could sense the presence of a higher entity unless Raziel wanted to be seen.

He was just hidden in plain sight. Raziel’s footsteps stopped for a moment, and Kaiden’s thoughts caught the god’s attention.

He was stunned at first but a smirk slowly graced his lips. Kaiden hated his son. Like a devil, he came next to Kaiden’s side, curious about what the father was going to do.

Cedric’s cries had died down, and the baby could sense Raziel. A sad smile curled up his lips. Of course, he would be able to. The baby was a demigod, or rather, half-demon.

Cedric’s attention was on Raziel, whom Kaiden could not sense.

Kaiden reached out for Cedric’s fragile form, the thought of killing him got so tempting. Then a voice came whispering in his mind.

"You never loved her."

Kaiden was stunned. His eyes narrowed. The voice sounded like his voice but it didn’t feel like his thoughts. He would never have such thoughts in his mind because he was certain of how much he loved Ariel.

"Are you sure it is love or just obsession?" The voice asked again. Kaiden froze, his hand was on Cedric’s head. The vulnerable baby could be easily killed in his hold. Yet Cedric could not sense the danger.

"I love her," Kaiden said out loud to chase away the voices. "That’s why I can’t even stand my own son. He took her away from me." Kaiden’s voice broke. Raziel’s lips twitched at how Kaiden sounded possessive of something that was never his.

It was a bloody mistake. "He deserves to die." Kaiden voiced out. He was still blinded by grief.

Grief could do a lot of things to a man.

Raziel’s presence loomed around Kaiden, "If you loved her, you would not want to hurt the last thing she left, but want to protect it with every might. What type of father are you?" The calm voice drifted to Kaiden’s mind..

A single tear rolled down his cheek. "The worst kind," Kaiden whispered. The more he spoke of his claimed love for Elysia it stirred something in Raziel.

.

This was not love. It was something dark and obsessive.

"She never said she loved me. It felt like she never truly did till her death." He whimpered.

Raziel was not surprised by this. Elysia had betrayed him, but he was the only one who deserved a place in her heart, especially not this man who hated the ’ child ’ she left behind.

If anyone should kill Cedric, he was the one who should clean away the evidence of Elysia’s betrayal.

"What are you doing?" A surprised voice gasped at the door followed by rushing footsteps.

Annette ran into the room with a pale face towards Kaiden. Her hand ran across his cheeks leaving the king stunned. Slap

"Get your act together. Don’t lose your mind because of her." She barked

She had heard the baby’s cries and decided to check up on him. What she didn’t expect to see was her son trying to kill his newborn.

Kaiden’s eyes went wide, surprised by the stinging sensation on his cheek. He touched his face, then stared back at his mother. He wasn’t mad. Maybe he needed that slap.

"I have already lost my soul," Kaiden admitted. Annette’s heart squeezed, she told him the brutal truth.

"Killing him will rob you of what little humanity you have left. If you eventually see Ariel in the Afterlife, do you think she would be happy to see the man who killed her son?" Annette asked

The king of one of the greatest kingdoms was defeated. Annette might not be fond of Cedric but she would never kill an innocent baby. He didn’t have to choose the condition of his birth

"If anyone should be blamed for Ariel’s death. It is you. " Her words cut like a sword.

"Me?" Kaiden blurted. Dumbfounded by what his mother was saying.

"Yes, Kaiden. You were the one who failed to protect her. You kept Ariel by your side for your selfish reasons." Kaiden’s hand clenched. He didn’t want to listen to his mother but he was forced to.

"I did it to protect her. I married a woman I could not stand because of her." Kaiden argued back.

"Yes, you might have done it to protect her from the bounty, but you didn’t have to marry her. Ariel had that child because of you, the palace was not suitable for her but she didn’t have anywhere to go..."

"Bounty," Raziel sucked in a breath. There was a bounty on Elysia’s head. Who did such a thing?. Raziel should have left by now but he stayed to find what little answers he could get

"You saw her break Kaiden but kept her close because of your selfishness. Your actions to protect her, your obvious favouritism only made things worse. Cedric didn’t kill his mother but you did?"

Annette scoffed then drew in a breath.

"Love isn’t selfish but obsession is. Your love was too dark and heavy for her to bear. I won’t be shocked if Ariel’s death was even caused by Eleanor." Annette finally said

.

Kaiden’s eyes went bloodshot. He didn’t say a word, only glared at his mother before storming away. Annette had a sad smile on her lips. Heartbroken by his condition.

She glanced at the baby in the crib then sighed before she left the room. Raziel stood processing everything.

If he hurt this baby Elysia would never forgive him. He disappeared, then appeared on the streets of Vitalis. The rain instantly drenched him.

He just let it pour on him wandering the streets of Vitalis.

"Raziel," Ariel called. He heard her voice loud and clear. He drew in a breath to calm his mind.

. Raziel’s tall figure continued to roam the streets of Vitalis in the dark..

"Raziel," she called again, this time sounding a bit frightening. He hissed then went to her side.
