    [DIANA’s Point of View]

“How long are we going to wait here?”

Devon didn’t answer my question. Instead, he paced around the room as if he were thinking. Or maybe he wasn’t? His arms were folded on his chest while frowning. Was he upset? Scared? We were finally out of that horrible, dark room that the Shadowdy and her men brought us to. We were terrified.

I couldn’t tell how many days we spent there with my twin brother, but throughout our stay there, he never let go of me. He was always in front of me, ready to protect me from the bad guys. I wouldn’t be able to survive all of this if Devon weren’t with me.

    “Devon, I am scared.”

“I know, Diana. But we have to do what Uncle Liam told us. We have to stay here and wait for Mom. I believe the enemies have already found out that we aren’t in the prison cell where they kept us. We have to be careful not to be caught again. Mom and Dominic are doing their best to save everyone in Silver Crescent. We just have to be patient and note in their way.”

“Why do you call dad with just his name? You are being so disrespectful, Devon.” I shot him a re with my lips pouting. “Why are you still upset with him?”

His frown deepened more, and that’s when I noticed Devon really looked like Dad. I guess people with the same faces just didn’t get along well.

“What should I call him, Dad?” There was bitterness in his voice as he pouted; his eyes were ring at the wall, too embarrassed to look back at me. “He hurt Mom so many times, Diana. I don’t think he deserves any respect from me.”

“But that’s from the past already. You saw how hard he does his best to protect us all. And he loves Mom,” I answered and couldn’t help but smile at my brother’s blushing face. Mom and I knew that Devon looked up to Dad like he was a superhero, but was too shy to admit it to any of us. Just like Mom, Devon was too proud to admit his true feelings to anyone and hid them through his snide remarks.

“I don’t know, Diana. It’s just something that isn’t easy to forget.” His voice was soft when he uttered the words. Sadness filled his eyes as he sighed, turning away from me this time not out of embarrassment, but because he appeared to be hurt.

I wanted to tell him that everything would be alright, but I was too scared to assume it, so I just looked around and thought of something random to say: "Whose room do you think it is?" I haven’t been to this room before.”

“I have a feeling this is Grandma’s room.”

“Grandma? How do you say so? I don’t see any picture of her here!” I expressed my surprise to him while searching for anything that would convince me this was truly Grandma’s bedroom. “And it seems smaller than I thought. Shouldn’t a former Luna like Grandma have a more gorgeous room? This one looks so simple.”

“I don’t think Grandma is a fan of any fancy things,” Devon answered as he searched the drawers and cupboards inside the room, looking for anything that could be useful to us. “I had never seen her wear anything luxurious before, like jewels or something. I always thought Grandma was simple yet elegant.”

“Don’t those two words contradict each other?” I raised an eyebrow at him and started helping him look. Whatever it was, I had no idea.

“Well, yeah, then simple yet graceful.” He corrected himself and then continued searching.

"What exactly are we looking for?" I asked him, confused, and had no idea what I was doing. My hands were smaller and weaker than Devon’s, so I was only able to look at two cabs inside Grandma’s wardrobe.

    “THIS!”

I turned around, excited about what he found, and then ran to my twin brother. There was excitement in his voice as well when he started to open the small notebook he found underneath the mattress of the bed.

“What an odd ce to put a notebook into,” Imented as I looked at what it was about.

“Maybe this is something important. And it’s not just under the mattress, Diana. There is a secretpartment under the mattress where I found it! It must be really important. Don’t you think?”

“Everyone hides so many secrets in this house.” I scowled as I folded my arms on my chest. “Hiding secrets is not a good thing at all.”

“Yeah,” Devon answered in a murmur as he tried to read whatever the content of the notebook was as he flipped the pages. “But I guess there are things that are too hard to say. Especially when you have no idea how to say it.”

I stared at my brother in awe. I never considered him to be a deep person, but maybe Mom was right. My twin brother was more mature than his age, and all the dangers that we went through honed and sharpened his senses and thinking. I smiled, feeling proud that Devon would be a wonderful leader and Alpha of the Silver Crescent pack one day.

    “Look!”

Devon stopped flipping the pages when I pointed to a drawing. It was roughly drafted using a pencil, but the art was pretty impressive for my age. “It looks like Dad’s wolf!”

“It is...” Devon murmured as he squinted his eyes and started reading the content of the page but was then distracted when we both heard muffled quarreling outside the room. We both looked at each other, recognizing the voices outside. We were both nervous and scared because it sounded like Mom and Uncle Killian were fighting over something and it wasn’t good news at all.

“We have to look!” I hissed at Devon as we both headed to the door and then pressed the side of our face to it, hoping to hear more of what they were fighting about. “We have to go down, Devon!”

“You heard what Uncle Liam said, Diana!” He hissed back, scared about the idea, but I could tell through his wide eyes that he also wanted to go down and scream at Mom that we were in the room—to tell them that we were safe and we needed them to get out of that ce!

“I don’t care! We have to make Mom know we are here, Devon! Or that shadowdy’s men would find us here first and take us back to that dungeon again! Please! I don’t want to go back there, Devon!” I begged my twin brother with shaky, pouty lips. My teary eyes must have convinced him and I watched him turn the doorknob with my heart beating so fast in my chest.

    “Let’s go!”

Devon said something that made him sound scared and annoyed, but I didn’t bother hearing it as we headed to the stairs and hid behind the wall. We used ourplete sneak ability so Mom and Uncle Killian wouldn’t detect our presence. We wanted to hear first what they were fighting about before we let Mom know that we were just in Grandmother’s room.

I ced a finger on my lips, giving Devon a warning not to make any sound.

It surprised me because it appeared that Dad was also with them. He was ring at Uncle Killian, while Uncle Killian was talking about something serious about Mom. Mom was massaging the space between her eyes as she listened to Uncle Killian talk. She already looked exasperated.

“You know this is the only way, Samantha! I can’t let you do anything reckless while my mate’s life is still in danger!”

“We know what we are doing, Killian,” Mother answered, her voice sounding as if she was just suppressing herself not to scream at him. Her eyes were wildly piercing, as if she wanted to cut someone in half.

“You can’t stop us, you know?” Dad stepped forward and red at Uncle Killian, his voice as vicious as Mom’s. “I know you are not among the enemy, and I want to think that you are just tolerating what is happening because Olivia f*cking has your mate. But you know what we’ll do once the situation esctes.”

“I know, but this is something serious, and we need to find a way to deal with the curse.” Uncle Killian’s response made me feel more nervous.

Devon and I exchanged nces when we heard the word. We both know what happened at the altar before we lost consciousness, and that evil Olivia told us that we were still alive, all thanks to Dad, who transferred all the curse to himself while we were unconsciously lying on the altar ground.

The apprehension on my mother’s face brought worry to Dad’s, and I started to feel like I was about to cry. Dad suffered with the curse to save me and Devon, and if we didn’t find a way to fix this, I was afraid something bad would happen.

I never wanted to think Dad would die because of me and my twin!

Uncle Killian ced a small ck box on my mother’s hand, and Dad’s face darkened while he red at Uncle Killian’s hand holding Mom’s hand. Uncle Killian softly said, “This is thest moonlight grass left, Sam. I told Liam that this is the only herb that can help Dominic with the curse. If we won’t find anything that can remove it from him, I am afraid your husband might—”

Mother bit her lower lip hard as she suppressed her tears from falling from her face and then looked at Uncle Killian with her face and nose looking red from crying. “Thank you, Killian. I promise you that we will find a way to save Brianne from Olivia. We will look for a way to get rid of her and make her and her men stay out of Silver Crescent territory.”

Uncle Killian closed the gap between him and Mom and embraced her tight, not caring if Dad was looking at them with a deadly look on his face as he curled his hands into tight fists.

“I believe you, Sam,” Uncle Killian whispered in his soft voice as he buried his face on my mother’s shoulder. “I believe you.”
