The world has turned into Hell's Game, why should I stay human?
Chapter 1054 673: The Metropolis Truly Breeds Exceptional People_2
It seems that the elevator operators are a special feature of the office buildings under Peacock's name.
"Ding!"
We've reached the 60th floor.
The elevator doors opened, and Liu Zheng strode out, but Golden Beetle didn't follow.
"People in finance are really smart."
He chuckled and glanced at the floor directory beside the elevator.
"Found it."
Liu Zheng quickly ran towards room 6037.
Just as he was in full stride, an office door suddenly opened, and a woman in a fitted little suit walked out carrying a pile of documents.
She turned her head and saw Liu Zheng charging like a wild boar, and she froze on the spot, neither screaming nor running.
At this point, they were already close, and it was too late for Liu Zheng to swerve.
"Yah!"
Good for Liu Zheng, with a loud shout, he kicked both legs back and executed a "back kick."
With the tremendous reactive force, he leaped high, jumping over the woman's head, and landed in a perfect posture.
"Be careful when you open the door next time. What if you hit a passerby?"
Liu Zheng reprimanded without turning his head and ran away in a flash.
"Sorry."
The woman dumbfoundedly apologized, reacting only seconds later.
Wait, she wasn't opening a car door, so where would there be a passerby?
Hold on, was that person wearing a Bloody Restaurant uniform?
Not mentioning the woman was still standing there trying hard to recall, Liu Zheng had already arrived at the door of room 6037.
He glanced at his phone, only ten minutes left.
It had been a long time since a delivery was this time-sensitive, but he had to admit it was quite thrilling.
"Knock knock knock!"
Liu Zheng knocked on the door.
"Who is it?"
A woman's voice came from inside.
"It's actually a woman?"
He was taken aback.
For a dish as hard as boiled elephant trunk, he thought the subscriber would be a middle-aged man with kidney deficiency and a big belly.
"Manager Huang, our manager asked me to deliver some documents to you."
Thinking of the woman holding the documents just now, Liu Zheng quickly came up with an excuse.
"What documents?"
The woman asked.
"I don't know, the manager just told me to deliver the documents, didn't say anything else."
He spoke in a bewildered tone.
"Why didn't you open your mouth to ask? Really, what's with the newcomers these days? Even the HR department is daring enough to recruit just anyone."
The woman grumbled as she opened the door.
And then, she saw Liu Zheng holding the Legendary Takeout Box.
"Hello, your takeout is here."
He flashed what he believed to be a sunshine boy smile.
"Ah!"
The woman let out a piercing scream.
Just as Liu Zheng thought she was about to slam the door, she directly raised her forelimb, striking at the top of his head.
"She's a tough one."
Liu Zheng raised the Rusted Knife to block the forelimbs, the blade and serrated teeth producing a shower of sparks.
"Ahhh!!!"
The woman, seeing her attack had no effect, screamed even more shrilly.
But her body didn't stop at all, two serrated hook-like forelimbs swung wildly, sketching an impenetrable net of blades in front of her.
"Oh, Turtle Fist, huh? I can do that too."
Liu Zheng employed "Iron Block," and the surface of his four tentacles instantly glowed with a metallic sheen.
"Ora Ora Ora!!!"
Though his Turtle Fist was even less methodical and not as fast as the opponent's.
But he had four tentacles, while the opponent had only two forelimbs, so he held the upper hand for the moment.
"Bang bang! Bang bang!"
The chaotic racket sounded incessantly, while sparks flew everywhere like welding.
"Take that!"
Liu Zheng kept an eye on the time while fighting. Three minutes in, when he could no longer hold out, he directly kicked the woman flying and charged into the room himself.
The room wasn't large, only about twenty square meters, but considering it was a single office, it was quite luxurious.
"Accepting the takeout doesn't necessarily lead to death, but not accepting it surely will. You've worked hard to climb to this position, surely you don't want to die young and let those watching your behind take advantage, right?"
His mind raced as he shouted sternly.
"Why should I believe you?"
The woman, as ferocious as a tiger, paused before speaking.
"You have no choice, and neither do I. Tell me who you least want to take your place. If you die, I'll make sure they can't succeed. I'll give you five spots."
Liu Zheng said.
"The two in 6052, Michelle in 6041, Xia Zhu in 6038."
The woman swiftly rattled off the list.
"Oh wow, you had this prepared long ago."
He clicked his tongue in amazement.
The way she rattled off the list was smoother than him reciting a menu.
"Hmph, I've wanted to take out those green teas for a long time."
The woman said through gritted teeth.
"I bet they feel the same way about you."
Liu Zheng said as he took out the meal box from the Legendary Takeout Box.
"Sign for it."
He handed the meal box to the woman.
The woman looked at the meal box, her expression conflicted.
"Don't try any tricks, I'm watching you."
Liu Zheng said coldly, flames flickering on the Rusted Knife.
"..."
Silently, the woman took the meal box.
"Whew~"
He glanced at his phone, and there were two minutes left for the delivery.
"Thanks for cooperating."
Liu Zheng breathed a sigh of relief.
"Remember what you promised me."
The woman stared at him and said.
"Don't worry, I have a reputation for being true to my word."
Liu Zheng assured her.
Next delivery, he would return to check on her.
It's not like preventing those five from getting promoted required taking them out—just chatting with their superiors would suffice.
As for how to chat, it depended on whether they preferred the soft approach or the hard one.
"I know you; otherwise, I wouldn't have agreed to your terms."
The woman said.
"Oh? You've heard my stories?"
Liu Zheng asked, slightly surprised.
"I'm in the same group as Wang Manni."
The woman replied.
"Oh~"
No surprise there, considering they're both female leaders in the same circle.
"She's a bitch too."
The woman said with a look of disgust.
"In honor of your cooperation, let's pretend I didn't hear that. But don't say it again, alright?"
"Speaking of which, since you know me, why put up this act? Had you negotiated terms straightforwardly from the start, I'd have given you a better deal."
He asked curiously.
"No deal is more important than staying alive. If I'm not even willing to fight for my life, there's no way I could have beaten those bitches to this position."
The woman said proudly.
"Makes sense. Alright, I'm leaving. I'll check back on you later."
Liu Zheng nodded, then turned to leave.
"Wait."
The woman called after him.
"What is it?"
He turned back.
"If I die, can you bury me in a place full of camellias?"
The woman asked.
"Sure. How about the Ten Thousand Great Mountains? The Stone Spirit Clan has a garden there—I'm just not sure if they grow camellias."
Liu Zheng pondered and said.
"Fine. You can go now."
The woman said calmly, then sat at her desk with the meal box.
He walked out of 6037 and considerately closed the door for her.
With a last glance, Liu Zheng saw the woman adjusting her clothes.
"A gentleman dies, but his manners remain. The Metropolis truly is a place bursting with greatness."
He mused.
Though the Metropolis was a cesspool, those thriving in it weren't ordinary maggots.
Entering the elevator, Liu Zheng pressed the button for the 62nd floor.
Though he had delivered the takeout, he still had a deal with Golden Beetle to discuss.
Be fair in hiring and firing; he couldn't bring himself to do otherwise.
On the 62nd floor, Golden Beetle was indeed waiting outside the elevator.
"Mr. Liu is indeed a man of integrity."
Golden Beetle praised.
"Manager Zhong treats me sincerely; I naturally repay in kind."
Liu Zheng smiled.
"Haha, Mr. Liu, please."
"Please."
The two entered Golden Beetle's office.
"Would Mr. Liu like something to drink? Coffee or tea?"
After inviting him to sit, Golden Beetle asked.
"Tea, please. I've just had a big meal, so it'll be good to clear my palate."
Liu Zheng replied.
"Alright. I recently bought a box of Six Feather Tea House's white tea; it's perfect for post-meal freshness."
Golden Beetle said with a smile.
"Six Feather Tea House?"
He furrowed his brows.
