bChapter 362 /b
Jacob looked at the closed door across the hall. Then he looked at Brian, who was staring out nkly, seemingly lost in thought. He couldn’t worriedly, “Dad‘ are you okay?”
“I’m fine. Come here. Tell me what your mom taught you.” Brian pulled his gaze away, took Jacob’s hand with one hand, and led him into the living
room.
Jacob saw that Brian didn’t look sad. He rxed and happily started talking about what he’d learned from Jessica earlier.
Brian listened patiently and asionally threw in apliment. When Jacob finished, he asked, “Did your mom mention meb?/bb” /b
“Yes.” Jacob nodded hard. “Mom asked me to pass you a message.”
“What is it?” Brian leaned in, eager to know.
Jacob repeated Jessica’s words exactly as she’d said them. At the end, he couldn’t help his curiosity and asked, “Dad, what did Mom mean bby /bbthat/bb? /bbWhat /bwere you overthinking?”
He was really curious.
“Overthinking?” Brian murmured, looking down with an upset expression.
How he wished it really was just overthinking. But the fact that Jessica and that guy were getting closer and closer was undeniable. How could bhe /bnot
care?
“I won’t ask. Dad, don’t be sad.” Jacob’s worried voice pulled Brian back to his senses.
Brian reached out and ruffled Jacob’s hair, speaking gently. “Don’t worry. I’m okay. Ohb, /bnext time you see your mom, tell her I got the message. bI’ve /bbgot /bthings to do. You go y for a bit.”
Brian isent /iJacob off. Then he went into his study and contacted Jacksonb, /btelling him to speed up the investigation.
‘I have to find out who that guy really is,’ he thought.
Jessica had no idea what Brian was thinking. After having Jacob pass the message, she felt she’d handled things and put it out of her mind.
The next few days went as usual–work and then back home. When she wasn’t busy, she’d go to Wesley’s counseling office. Her days were fully scheduled.
Brian still brought her different kinds of food every day. Jessica was almost getting used to bit/bb, /bbut she knew she shouldn’t.
The next time she saw Wesley, she talked about this inner conflict.
“There’s no ‘shouldn’t‘ about it. It’s just a matter of what you want, Ms. Grant. You really don’t need to be bso /bbhard /bbon /byourselfb,/bb” /bbWesley /badvised bgently/b.
Jessica looked down. “Is that really being hard on myself?b” /b
“Yes,” Wesley said patiently. ‘Forcing yourself to turn down all of someone’s kindness is a kind of bharshness/b. bMs. /bGrant, bif /bbyou /bbreally /bbcan’t /bbdecide /bbwhether /bbto /bept his thingsb, /bwhy not try starting as friendsb? /b
“Think about it. bIf /ba friend gave you these, would you stress over taking them or not? After all, bthey /bbaren’t /bbanything /bvaluable
“But friends wouldn’t bring me things every day. And even if they did, I’d return the favorb,/bb” /bbJessica /bbargued/b.
Wesley smiled, “See, that’s the problem. You’re afraid you can’t pay back bthe /bbhidden /bfavorsb, /bso byou /bbwant /bbto /bbrefuse /bbfrom /bbthe /bbstart/bb. /bbBut /bbyou /bcan I help

wanting to bept/b. That’s a form of insecurity, isn’t it?”
He carefully analyzed her state of mind. Then he offered a suggestion for the moment. “If you really don’t want bto /bowe bhim/b, byou /bcan give say th equal value after epting.
“Or just give him money like you’re buying the things. Does that make it easier to ept?b” /b
“But what if I get used to it over time? What if I be dependent?” Jessica shot back.
Wesley nced at her stomach. “You’ve always thought he’s doing all this because of the babies you’re carrying, right? Then, wait until bthe /bbbabies /bare born to deal with that.
“Right now, the most important thing is for you to stay in a good mood. Not to stress over these little things every dayb.” /b
