At the hospital, outside the examination room, Brian saw the doctore out and immediately stepped forward. “Doctor, how are the test results?”

    Jessica, who was being helped out by a nurse, happened to hear this and instantly looked embarrassed.

    “Okay. We’ll definitely be careful from now on. Thank you, doctor,” Brian said, thanking the doctor again and again before taking Jessica from the nurse. He looked at her with concern. “Jessi, you heard that too…”

    “I know. It’s just watching my sugar. I can do that,” Jessica cut him off. She gave him a look to warn him not to say more, or she might snap.

    She really hadn’t expected one little splurge would end up as such an embarrassing moment.

    After leaving the hospital, Raymond checked that Jessica was fine enough to join the afternoon activities and let out a sigh of relief.

    “Are we going back to the orchard this afternoon?” Brian asked, still worried.

    “Don’t worry, Mr. Atkinson. This afternoon we’re going to hang out by Lira Lake. It’s nothing to do with food,” Raymond quickly exined.

    Raymond didn’t care. He calmly led everyone to Lira Lake to take photos.

    Jessica, still worn out from vomiting at noon, clearly had less energy. After ying for a short while, shey down on a sun lounger by theke and fell asleep.

    Brian noticed and stopped what he was doing. He told the others not to worry about him. “You guys go on. I’ll stay here with Jessi.”

    The others, seeing Brian’s gaze never leave Jessica, knew better than to bother him. They nodded and said their goodbyes.

    Brian took off his jacket and draped it over Jessica, then sat quietly beside her, watching over her for most of the afternoon.

    When Raymond started calling everyone to gather and get on the bus back to the guesthouse, Jessica still hadn’t woken up.

    Unwilling to wake her, Brian gestured to Raymond to keep his voice down. He wrapped Jessica up in his jacket, bent down, and with a gentle lift, picked her up.

    Lillian and the others fell silent as they watched Brian striding over with Jessica in

    his arms.

    “Get on the bus,” Raymond said softly, standing by the vehicle.

    Brian nodded at him, carrying Jessica onto the bus first. He found a spacious seat at the back but didn’t put her down. He held her the whole time, asionally shifting his position to make sure she slept morefortably.
