Chapter 18: Her Retaliation Was Simply Decisive!
CHAPTER 18: CHAPTER 18: HER RETALIATION WAS SIMPLY DECISIVE!
Every question from her made Roxanne Young’s face even more unpleasant. She never expected Iris Crawford to be such a difficult person to deal with. Moreover, her words caused the surrounding ordinary employees to resonate with their emotions. If word got out, it wouldn’t be a huge scandal but not a trivial one either!
If it reaches Lachlan Wyatt, it might even affect the career prospects of the department manager!
However, Iris Crawford still appeared nonchalant. She was no longer the pushover she used to be, and even raised her chin with a smile, "Do you still want me to apologize, Manager?"
Deliberately using the words "Manager" was certainly a way to mock this department manager for oppressing his subordinates like an Emperor!
The department manager’s face turned black; he should have slapped her earlier! This woman is simply lawless!
Who does she think she is, daring to speak like that? She got into the company by selling herself, and yet she dares to seek attention!
Roxanne Young was best at reading the situation. If things really got out of hand, it would be hard to control, so she hurried forward to mediate, "Manager, it’s almost time to get off work. Why don’t we not bother with this newcomer?"
"Bother?"
Iris Crawford acted as if she heard a joke, her expression was dazzling yet disdainful. Everyone was scrambling to climb up, trampling each other, but she seemed indifferent to it. Who knows from whom she learned to disengage, saying, "You don’t bother with me? But, I have a matter I’d like to discuss with you."
The group originally causing trouble for her immediately changed their expressions.
Then, they heard Iris Crawford’s clear and slightly seductive voice piercing their ears like a bullet from a gun with tension—
"Let me make it clear to you all: you are free to oppress others, that’s your business. Others may be willing to be oppressed by you, but I’m not."
With a hand, she gently tapped the computer next to her and leaned on her chair as if borrowing strength, with her shoulders lazily hanging. She was pulling her red lips into a contemptuous smile, "It’s not just recording data today, helping write papers."
"From now on, anything that has nothing to do with my job..."
Her face expressionless, "I, will, not, do, a, single, thing."
Roxanne Young gasped in shock, "You... You... You’re revolting!"
No one had ever dared to rise up against their superiors in the workplace like this!
Iris Crawford was like a sharp blade, easily tearing through the facade when most were silent, yielding their interests.
Scandalous, rebellious!
"I only do what is within my responsibilities." Iris Crawford spread her hands, "Did you hear that?"
Then the woman bent down to look at the time on the computer.
It was time to get off work.
She glanced at the department manager, still smiling as she shut down the computer, then picked up her bag and stepped forward, "Move aside."
The department manager was so angry he was trembling, "What do you mean?"
Iris Crawford responded rudely. Just kidding, he’s not the one paying her salary, and since they’ll be in different departments, why bother being polite to such a person?
"It’s time to get off work, just leave."
After saying that, she collided past the department leader blocking her path, causing the manager to stagger to the side, nearly losing face.
The middle-aged man struggled to breathe, glaring viciously at Iris Crawford’s departing figure, noticing some employees secretly giving her a thumbs up behind her.
"Really bold to speak like that..."
"Makes me feel thrilled..."
"But isn’t it because she has backing, while us ordinary folk accept being exploited..."
Roxanne Young’s plan fell through. She wanted to see Iris Crawford get severely reprimanded, but now they were caught off guard by Iris Crawford. At this moment, people’s eyes on them were strangely intrigued, after all, many had been bullied by seniors, projecting all their emotions onto them.
Roxanne Young felt she was on pins and needles, quickly pulling the coworkers intent on causing trouble to leave together, their words still grumbling, their eyes filled with resentment, "This newcomer really doesn’t know her place!"
"We’ll find an opportunity to teach her a lesson." Roxanne Young told the department leader, "Manager, don’t worry, I’ll write that paper for your son!"
******
Iris Crawford waited in the underground garage. She had arrived at work with Lachlan Wyatt in the morning, so she stood by his car waiting for a while. Not Lachlan Wyatt came, but another man approached her.
He stopped by the car, with a cigarette in his mouth, his expression indifferent, "Who are you? Why are you at Wyatt’s car?"
Looking at the man’s face, Iris Crawford searched through the identities of the wealthy second generations around Lachlan Wyatt in her mind, finally matching the name with the face, she asked, "Hector Sutton?"
Hearing his full name from this woman, Hector Sutton was somewhat annoyed, "Who are you? Wyatt’s new sugar baby?"
Hector Sutton naturally didn’t expect the woman in front of him to be Iris Crawford, whom their circle had always mocked.
The news of Iris Crawford being alive was known only to Lois Lawson and Lachlan Wyatt, naturally they all thought Iris Crawford had died two years ago.
Therefore, at this moment, Hector Sutton mistook Iris Crawford for one of those beautiful but brainless women around Lachlan Wyatt, probably just another cheap plaything...
The man pushed her away from Wyatt’s car, "Wyatt called me to go out tonight, did he call you to accompany?"
He most disliked women with only a pretty face but a dirty and filthy heart.
These women always just climb upwards. They can end up in anyone’s bed.
So Hector Sutton looked at Iris Crawford with disdain, saying, "Stay away from me."
"Who’s keen?" Iris Crawford chuckled, "Who enjoys standing next to you anyway?"
After saying that, she simply went to the other side of the car’s passenger seat, confronting Hector Sutton with the car between them.
Hector Sutton almost exploded with anger, "You know who I am yet deliberately speak like this, what, seeking my attention?"
Iris Crawford looked at him expressionlessly, "Yet not as handsome as my brother, don’t feel too good about yourself."
Hector Sutton’s handsome face nearly twisted, "Who is your brother?"
"Orion Crawford."
"Ha ha." This time it was Hector Sutton’s turn to laugh, "Keep bragging, if your brother is Orion Crawford, I’ll give you fifty million."
"Start preparing the money." The cold yet teasing voice from behind came from Lachlan Wyatt, "Her brother really is Orion Crawford."
"You’re kidding, Orion Crawford only has two younger sisters, one is a great beauty and the other is a fatty, I’ve met the beauty once, isn’t the fatty supposed to be dead two years ago?"
Hector Sutton clearly didn’t take Lachlan Wyatt’s reminder seriously, upon seeing Lachlan Wyatt approach, he said impatiently, "Wyatt, why are you only here now? I’ve been waiting forever."
"Just returned to the company, there’s a lot to handle." Lachlan Wyatt walked to the car, unlocking it.
Then it was Iris Crawford who first got into the car, evidently not wanting to spend a moment more with Hector Sutton. This man spoke ill of her past right in front of her, this fellow with a good-looking face was not only bad, but dumb!
Hector Sutton noticed her attitude, angrily poking at her backbone, cursing, "What are you putting on airs for? You’ve hooked up with Wyatt and still acting all aloof here!"
Iris Crawford acted as though she didn’t hear, with an air of pleasure buckling her seatbelt in the front. Such men generally had too comfortable family conditions, leading to an inflated sense of self-worth, as long as she ignored him, she could torment him.
Sure enough, Hector Sutton sat in the back, about to erupt, "Wyatt, control her!"
Lachlan Wyatt started the car with a laugh, "You’re a grown man, what are you bickering with a woman for?"
"You can tolerate such a woman?" Hector Sutton nearly exhausted every dirty word he knew to attack Iris Crawford, "Look at her attitude, really thinks she’s favored and is a big deal? Aside from having a pretty face, what else does she have to offer?"
Aside from having a pretty face, what else does she have to offer?
However, for Lachlan Wyatt, he never thought women, or those in a lower class than him regardless of gender, needed brains, did they?
Or rather, what difference would it make whether these people had brains or not?
Lachlan Wyatt’s indifference and selfishness were clear and upfront, the overwhelming superiority from his own strength coupled with his contempt and disregard for others as less than human were laid bare, not even bothering to put on a façade.
The objectification and subconscious disdain were not limited to women.
It was aimed at everyone who was inferior to him.
Driving the car, he laughed, "Is anything else even needed?"
