Threads of the Soul
Chapter 271: Death becomes her
Leaving the lover boy to his soon to be bride, Seth pulled his soul from the temporary vessel and transferred it elsewhere. It wasn't time to return it to his original body, that could simply exist as a puppet for the time being.
Instead there was something else that required his full attention and presence, even if this was supposed to be the time he was spending with his boys. He didn't really get a day off anyways.
It was a little surprising to hear about Alfie's decision, but according to the Matriarch he had declared his feelings in front of everyone, not once but twice, in the traditional way. The first time had startled her enough to stop her execution, and the second was like a confirmation of what he had said.
The main factor in helping stay the execution was the fact that this ceremony would, supposedly, help with regaining her daughters freedom. He still had to do a little convincing, that this was the better option than execution, but they got there in the end. An alliance through marriage, truly a traditional option.
In a cave hidden by mystical means beneath the waters of Loch Ness, a group of people were keeping themselves occupied while they idly passed the time. A small campfire had been set up, casting deep dancing shadows on the cave walls as the flames waved and crackled softly.
A few sticks were stuck into the ground and a slab of meat was suspended over the fire, the juices of it bubbling on the slowly browning surface, making it glisten tantalisingly. With every bubble of juice and sizzle of roasting meat, an intoxicating scent filled the cave, causing many mouths to water in anticipation.
Five figures sat around the fire. Some watching the meat, others occupying themselves with other tasks such as meditation or sharpening their weapons. Lee was bouncing his leg nervously, biting his nails so short that his teeth were almost carving into his fingers.
He glanced towards Tiff, who was sitting across from him and idly scrolling through a communication device.
"H-How long left?"
"Half an hour. 1 minute less than the last time you asked."
"I can't help it. I keep thinking of all the things that could go wrong in the time and... the Lord...
I mean, that's his son right? That's what people say. He calls him father, he always had even before the church. Don't you think he'll be mad that-"
Lee's words were cut off by the violent russling of Tiff's duffel bag. It shifted constantly, bulging from within like a cat in a paper bag, before falling still. All the members within the cave stared at it silently, some of them holding their breathe while none of them dared to speak a word.
The only sound that echoed within the vast cave network was the crackling of the fire, the sizzling of the meat, and the steady noise a zipper. It was an eery sight, watching the zipper pull itself open as if it was being handled by a ghost.
Ziiiiiiiiiiiiiiip.
A skeletal hand lunged from the bag and slammed down against the ground, causing someone to let out a scream of shock. The fingers curled, gripping the stone and, like it was straight out of a horror movie, a patch work abomination dragged itself from the bag and clambered to its feet in front of them.
Rising to his feet, Seth rolled his neck again and glanced down at his body, mainly at the T-shirt that he was wearing. He frowned softly at it, before shooting an irritated glance at Tiff who simply bit her lip and gave him a playful wave.
Rolling his eyes - which is hard to do when your current head is a skull - Seth looked over the members hiding in the cave. The two members that accompanied Tiff bowed their heads, not daring to look him in the eyes without permission, while Lee shrunk away nervously. There was definitely something wrong with the number of people in this room.
Eight were assigned to this team, while half that number sat before him.
"You're missing four. Explain." His voice was cold, dripping with restrained anger.
"Cassius is dead, we know that. The others we aren't sure about. W-we had to get out of there when the alarms started. They should be waiting at the rendezvous for the pick up time. We still need to wait-"
Lee began to nervously explain, but quickly fell silent when his Lord raised a single hand.
"Send me there, now."
"Y-yes Lord."
He quickly scrambled to his feet, almost tripping over nothing, as he moved away from the fire and towards an empty area of the cave, where the old world fork lifts and such used to be before they cleared them out.
The entire time he had been here, Seth hadn't even so much as glanced at the prize of this expedition, the mystical blocks for the Heaven's Gate archway. He should have been jumping for joy, eagerly getting the gate ready and simply letting things proceed how they should. He was still thinking about what he wanted to do with Astra, after all.
But would you be able to sleep if you found out someone you knew died when you were enjoying yourself? Would you be able to deal with the guilt of knowing that you could have done something to fix it, to save them, and were simply too lazy to do so?
Neither could he. Such was the saying, with great power... well, I'm sure you know the rest.
A pair of slender hands wrapped around him, one of them caressing his cheekbone while the other slipped underneath the T-shirt he was inexplicably wearing. Since he was truly possessing this body, instead of simply controlling it from afar, he could feel every touch of those soft slender hands as they moved over his plastic mannequin torso.
He could hear Tiff take a deep inhale as her nose pressed against his shoulder, before her warm breath tickled his plastic ear when she whispered seductively into it.
"My Love~ Do you really have to go after just getting here? Those boys will be fine, you should just stay here with me~ We really do need to spend some time together, a fire side date would be so roman-" PAP!
Tiff's body was practically thrown to the ground, her cheek bright red and even sporting a few blood oozing cuts from the bare boned knuckles of Seth's back handed slap. He strode over to her, grabbing her by the metallic collar and lifted her by her throat.
"Let me get one thing perfectly clear. I am not your love, and I never will be. You disgust me. Every time I look at you, I have to stop myself from doing something I have only ever done once before.
I thought that I could control you, that I could tame this rabid dog. What a fool I was. I see now that the only way to deal with rabid dogs is to put them down.
But I'm still not that man. I'm no murderer. I'm nice. Too nice for my own good. It makes people like you think I am weak. But that's where they are wrong. Kindness is not a weakness, and it only goes so far.
I will only say this once. Get out of my sight. If you ever come near me or anyone I love again. My kindness, and your miserable life, will come to a very swift end. Do I make myself clear?"
Tears trickled down her cheeks, mixing with the blood of her cuts. Her eyes glistened with tears of betrayal.
Without another word, Seth simply let go of her collar and let her crumple to the ground in a broken heap, as if she wasn't even worth the small amount of energy it would have taken to toss her to the side.
She quickly wiped the tears from her face, streaking the blood across her cheek, as she was almost shouting with a shrill quivering voice.
"I am your high priestess! The one you truly belong to! I saw that wretched man saying such heretical things and I knew what you wanted me to do.
You didn't have to tell me, I just knew. That is our connection, dont you understand? I know you! The true you!
I simply carried out your will and did what was best for you!"
She crawled forwards, grasping his heel with one hand to stop him, while the other one was clenched into a tight, trembling fist and held against her chest as if she was holding her very heart in her hands.
More tears streamed down her cheeks as she pulled herself up him, using him to clamber to her feet. Her hand grasping the hem of the T-shirt tight.
As Seth slowly turned to face her, his eyes hollow, she continued with her hysteria.
"It's all her fault! I knew she turned you against me. I failed once my Love, but I'll succeed the next time I promise.
She won't get in the way, that wretched brainwashing bitch. I'll kill her and you'll be free! Free to be with me, free from that bi-"
Her hysterical voice cut out, drowned out by the soft gasps of her compansions as well as the gentle sound of droplets of blood scattering across the stone floor of the cave, some of the drops landing in the fire and immediately hissing.
Tiff's eyes were wide open, her jaw hanging mid sentence. She coughed, a torrent of blood spewing from her lips and dripping down her chin like a crimson waterfall.
Her head slowly tilted down, her wide eyes landing on Seth's skeletal hand, which was impaled through her chest.
He shoved the hand deeper, forcing another torrent of blood to pour from her mouth and splatter to the floor.
He spoke softly, his voice trembling ever so slightly.
"My will? You don't know anything about my will. You don't know what I want. You know nothing about me.
You don't even know what you've done with your stupid actions. Sending that man there... you don't know what you've done. Who will die because of you.
But even if its your fault... those people, those deaths... that blood... it's on my hands."
He tore his hand from her chest, her heart clenched in his skeletal palm. A fresh waterfall of crimson poured from the gaping hole in her torso as she collapsed to the ground.
Seth clenched his fist, squeezing the heart and spraying the blood it held inside it, before letting it drop to the floor beside her corpse.
"So what's one more drop in that ocean?"
