Threads of the Soul
Chapter 303: Cuteness is Power!
A jagged, stone fist the size of a pick up truck careened through the air before smashing into the face of an oversized spider, splattering it across the ground like the bug it was. Or... the arachnid it was, technically speaking.
Stones fell from the arm once the technically not a bug had been splattered, its green blood staining the ground for a few moments before all signs of its corpse faded away, as if it was nothing more than a bad dream.
A bad dream with a nasty, extremely venomous bite.
Alexandra heaved deeply as she let the stones surrounding her fist return to the ground. Things were not going well on the North Eastern front. Their enemy didn't have as many numbers as them, despite their relatively close distance to the enemy city, or perhaps because of it.
Regardless of the reason, they made up their numbers tenfold due to one man. Paladin Phobus. While their numbers had been bolstered by Seth and his Unkindly Guard, this single paladin of the Lightbringer was able to match that by drawing on the deepest fears of both enemy and ally alike, and bringing them to life to fight for him. But that was not all he could do…
A horrified, bloodcurdling scream caused Alexandra to whip around. It was a sound that wasn't uncommon in the last few minutes, but even if she was constantly hearing it, one occurring so close demanded her attention.
"No no NO! No please! Someone! Please god I can't be in the dark! Someone Help me!"
A man staggered around in the middle of the active battlefield, his sword laying uselessly on the ground as his hands grasped at the air. He took slow unsteady and shuffling steps, as if he was unsure where the ground beneath his feet was, and his eyes darted around the battlefield wildly. Yet they were unfocused, as if he was not looking at the battle itself but at invisible phantoms only he could see... or as if he was simply looking at nothing at all.
"Please! What happened? Why can't I see?! Someone help me!"
His screams drew not only Alexandra's attention, but the attention of one of the Lightbringers forces. A man in gleaming silver armour pulled his sword from the corpse he had just created, and looked towards the helpless, panicked man with a cruel smirk.
He lifted his sword, only to have his head engulfed by a viscous, cyan substance. This time it was his turn to scream.
The soldier's eyes widened in fear, screams bursting from his lips but they never reached the air. Instead they simply produced a stream of bubbles within the searing, acidic liquid surrounding his head, which was contained within Cynthia's gelatinous body.
Her translucent 'skin' acted as a window, giving a perfect view to the horror show happening within. The soldier grasped at his head, desperately trying to pull the slime from his head, as the skin of his face started to turn scarlet.
His features peeled away, terror filled eyes dissolved as his head melted from the powerful acid. Only when the bubbles of his screams stopped, did the slime blob dislodge itself, leaving nothing but a half digested head atop a perfectly pristine body. Its head, as what remained could not be called a face, twisted in horror and agony for the rest of time.
Cynthia landed on Alexandra's shoulder after her quick 'snack', her gelatinous body jiggling softly as she came to a stop. She had created a set of adorable, black button eyes that looked up at the stone Amazonian with concern and, although she had no mouth, she spoke softly.
"I'm telling you, something is wrong with Silver. His guys are fighting strangely. Just look at them!"
"I know Jellybean, I know. Maybe he's just overworked with the battles. It's not… exactly… easy going here."
Alexandra's words became exerted as she swung titanic haymakers at the smiling face of a clown straight out of someone's nightmares. With a pale white face, blood shot eyes and an inhumanly wide smile that stretched up to its ears and showed a mouth full of needle-like teeth.
"Wh-what have I told you about calling me that! Not when we are out in public…"
"Hehe, but why not, you're just so adorable when you blush Jellybean."
Cynthia let out bubbles of embarrassment as her cyan body turned a deep shade of violet, the already small blob shrinking slightly as if she was deathly afraid of anyone seeing her like that, but it only made her look more like her namesake.
Alexandra risked a glance at the blob on her shoulder, letting out a soft giggle at her adorable nature, as the sight only served to empower her. Like she had taken a shot of adrenaline her fast punches sped up until her fists were barely even a blur.
The clown let out a wicked, yet goofy laugh as it weaved around her punches, before one finally slammed right in the middle of its stupid face. This was the true power of moe!
With a honk of its nose, it flew backwards, teeth flying from its mouth. The clown's body crumbled like a paper bag as it slammed into the ground. Its mangled body evaporated in black smoke like a Popsicle on the surface of the sun, before the putrid black smoke congealed back together and took on a new form. The form of a leather skinned colossal lizard of terror, a 15 metre tall Tyrannosaurus Rex… that was purple.
The colossal purple T-rex, let out a thundering roar that shifted into a goofy laugh of its own as it stomped forwards, charging towards Alexandra with its torso sized teeth bared.
Every step trembling the earth beneath it as people desperately dove out of the way, lest they get crushed beneath the king of lizards.
'Seriously? Who the hell is scared of that damned purple dinosaur? It was for kids! Some messed up childhood you had my guy. Although… I have always wanted to do this!'
A devious smirk spread across Alexandra's concrete coloured lips as the earth beneath her churned as her mana flowed through it. Dirt burst apart to make way for the stone beneath, which crawled up her legs like a swarm of little grey insects.
Whereas before the stone would surround her like armour, this time her rugged grey skin cracked apart, like she had been struck with a hammer, as the stone forced their way into the cracks.
Her skin was pushed apart to make room for it, as more cracks appeared across her body and on the new rocks that entered her body. Hundreds upon thousands of stones forced themselves into the crevices, forcing them open and making way for new rocks.
With every addition, her size increased along with her mass. Those that entered her face twisted her expression from a pretty, chisel jawed woman to a rugged, sharp jawed beast with protruding boulders for teeth and large tusks that erupted from her lower lip.
White and black coloured stones forced their way into her eyes, enlarging them, until facing down the charging purple dinosaur was a stone colossus. Alexandra, fully formed as a 20 metre tall titan of pure earth, with much less of the bulk that her previous attempts had caused.
This was a side effect of her [One with Gaia] ability, which was also what gave her the ability to bend the earth to her whereas previously she could only pull it onto her body.
The colossal Alexandra squatted down, facing the charging terror lizard like she was a sumo wrestler getting to grapple with the lizard. But at the last moment, just before it could slam into her, she clasped her hands together and swung upwards, smashing them into its jaw like she was trying to smack a volleyball into orbit.
A thunderous boom echoed out as its jaws snapped closed and spider-webs of cracks immediately spread across its pearly white teeth from the sudden force. Some of them simply shattered, while others exploded outwards in a hail of shards.
The dinosaur of childhood nightmares staggered back a few steps, only to take another haymaker to the face, sending more of its teeth flying and causing its titanic body to collapse to start to topple like a great oak tree.
However, it dissolved into the same black smoke it had formed from before it could hit the ground and crush both of their forces.
Across the battlefield, standing at the window of the North Eastern fort, Paladin Phobus clicked his tongue in annoyance. The heretic of stone lifted her head, seemingly making direct eye contact with him, and whispered softly
"Is that the best you've got? I'm not afraid of you."
However, due to her gargantuan size, that whisper was louder than most men could yell at the top of their lungs, and so easily carried across the chaotic landscape of the battlefield.
Hearing the pathetic provocation, Phobus could only let out a condescending chuckle.
"No, it isn't. I have only begun to delve into your nightmares. Soon you shall fear the wrath of God above all, as it should be."
He idly drummed on the window sill with one hand, while the other played with an injection gun containing a singular vial of viscous, golden liquid. A blessing from God himself.
