“Anna!” Fiona was the first to notice and immediately rushed to Anna’s rescue. Her loud cry instantly caught everyone’s attention in the family. As it was moining and everyone was getting ready for breakfast, the entire family was still at home.

Andrew and Max came running out. Seeing Anna copse in Fiona’s arms, they anriously asked, “What’s wrong with Anna?”

“Anna!” Fiona called out anxiously, but Anna showed no response. Fiona red at Ste, jabbing a finger at her. “It was her. She pushed Anna down!”

Both Max and Andrew’s gazes snapped to Ste.

Supported by Mary, Eleanor slowly made her way out, her gaze joining the others fixed on Ste.

Max stormed up the stairs, grabbed Ste viciously by the ear, and dragged her down the steps-

“Max!” Eleanor cried out. Ste had barely recovered, and now Max was tormenting her like this. She wouldn’t survive.

Max, deaf to Eleanor’s desperate cries, violently flung Ste down right in front of Anna. “Mark my words, Ste. If anything happens to Anna, you’ll pay with your life!”

To Eleanor’s surprise, when the ambnce pulled up, a police car was right there with it. After calling the ambnce, Andrew called the police.

The police took Ste away. Eleanor’s desperate cries fell on deaf ears. In the now–empty house, only she and Mary remained. Eleanor was beside herself with worry. “Ste did nothing wrong. I’m going to the police station to get her.”

Mary, clearly anxious and concerned for Ste, quickly turned to Eleanor and gently said, “Madam, please don’t panic. Let’s check the surveince footage first.”

Eleanor’s eyes lit up as she suddenly remembered. “That’s right. The surveince footage. Let’s check it immediately.”

bIn /bthe surveince footage, that spot wasn’t a blind spot, but bSte /bblocked the view, making it impossible to tell if she had done anything.

However, if Ste had really done something, she wouldn’t have just stood there stiffly. Her movements would have been much more obvious. “Quick, grab the footage. We’re heading to the police station now.” Eleanor urged.

Eleanor bwasn’t /bsure if she could help Ste, but she was determined to give it a shot. They bwere /bjust about to head out when Kevin walked in. “Grandma?” Kevin asked, a hint of surprise in his voice.

“Kevin?” While the rest of the Hayes family never warmed up to Kevin, Eleanor had always been fond of him.

“Grandmab, /bwhere are you going?”

“Ste’s been taken by the police. I need to get to the station and see if I can get her out,” Eleanor said urgently.

“How could she be arrested by the police?” Kevin eximed. He had wrestled with this decision for a long time, but ultimately made up his mind to see Ste.

For the past two daysb, /bevery time Kevin closed his eyes, Ste’s pitiful look kept haunting him. He was determined toe, bno /bmatter what, just to check on her.

Eleanor turned to Kevin and said urgently, “Did you drive here? Let’s take your car. I’ll exin everything on the way

“Sure thing.”

At the police station, the officer took the surveince footage and nced at it. “This footage neither proves that Ste pushed anyone nor that she didn’t. We’ll keep it on file while we continue our investigation.”

Eleanor felt a wave of uncertainty wash over her as she listened. Seeing the officers busy with their work, she anxiously trailed after them.

“My granddaughter would never push anyone.” Eleanor insisted. “Even if their rtionship is strained, Ste would absolutely never do such a thing.”

“Madam, please head home for now. We only go by evidence, and without it, we can’t make any promises. But if your ount proves true, she will be breleased /bonce our investigation isplete.”

Eleanor was about to follow the police when Kevin gently held her back.

“Grandma, you really shouldn’t keep following the police. Normally, this is just the investigation phase. If they can’t find any evidence within twenty–four hours that Ste actually pushed Anna, she’ll be released right away.”

“But…” Eleanor hesitated, her voiceced with worry. “How unbearable it must bbe /bin there. She’s already suffered so much. How can I let her go through this again?”

“Grandma, how about I find ba /bwyer to bail her out?”

Eleanor immediately perked bup/b. “Yes. Please, find a way. You must find a way. No matter how much it costs, I’ll cover all the

expenses.”

“No need, Ste and I are close friends. Of course, I’ll help her if she needs it.”

Eleanor patted the back of his hand in satisfaction, entrusting everything to Kevin.

Kevin thought finding ba /bwyer would be a piece of cake, but little did he know, Troy had already caught wind of it. “Well, well, my dear brother,” Troy drawled with a mocking smile. “What brings you to thew firm?”

Kevin didn’t even bother to respond. He simply turned and walked away.

Troy smirked at his retreating back and then strode into thew firm to inquire about the matter.

When Kevin got the call saying thewyer had declined his bcase/b, he didn’t suspect anything yet. He went from onew firm to another, only to find that none of them would take his bcase/b.

Suddenly, it hit Kevin. It had to be Troy. After he left, Troy must have found out what he was nning and started blocking him at every turn. But that wasn’t gonna stop him,

Kevin called a female ssmate from his college days. She bwas /bba /bbwyer/b, and he knew she’d help. As expected, Ste was released.

Although her mind seemed clear, her body was clearly failing. Without hesitation, Kevin scooped her up in his arms and carried her all the way home.

Max had juste back from the hospital to pick up some things for Anna when he saw Kevin carrying Ste in his arms. Hisc darkened with fury. He snarled, “Kevini, /iwhy the hell did you butt into our family’s affairs?”

Kevin red at Max, fury zing in his eyes. If he weren’t holding Ste, he would’ve punched Max right then and bthere /b

“Max, Ste is your sister, too. How can you be so sure she pushed Anna down, instead of Anna just falling on her own? Kevin challenged.

Max sneered, “Are you even listening to yourself? She rolled down on her own? Like that’s possible?”

“This isn’t the first time Anna’s pulled something like this. Why is it so impossible to believe she’d do it again?”

Max jabbed his finger toward the hospital wing and snapped, “Anna’s fighting for her life. We don’t even know her condition yet. And you’re telling me she did this to herself?”

Kevin scoffed, “Every single time, she’s supposedly at death’s door, but she never actually dies, does she?”

Max was about to throw a punch when Eleanor stopped him cold. “bMax/bb! /bYou are not toy a hand on Kevin. Until this matter is fully investigated, Ste is innocent.”

Max shot Eleanor a sharp look. “Grandma, aren’t you ying favorites? Even if you trust Ste, that’s just the Ste from ibefore /iThree years out there, she’s apletely different person now. She might even turn on you. Stop trusting her.

“Besides, if she weren’t so scheming, how could she have possibly managed to get herself out of that god forsaken ce?”
