To His Hell and Back

CHAPTER 381: TWO DETECTIVES-II
"And tell your boss I’ve got plenty more where that came from," the Baron’s smug voice carried through the chamber, his tone steeped in arrogance. Cassius and Arabella exchanged a glance, the weight of their suspicions about the Baron’s mysterious wealth only deepening.
"I’ve heard the envoys flocking to greet the new King have shown a particular interest in... human pets," the Baron went on, his lips curling into a wolfish smile. "If your boss manages to secure a few promising buyers, his commission will increase handsomely."
"Truly?" The bald man’s eyes gleamed, greed spilling from every crease of his expression. "I’ll be sure to tell him that, Baron."
"Good. I appreciate an obedient subordinate, it makes my work far simpler." With a flick of his wrist, the Baron gestured toward the maid by the bedroom door. She hurried forward, placing a bulging leather pouch into his waiting hand. The sound of clinking coins filled the air as he thrust it toward the bald man. "That covers the last payment your boss demanded. The rest... is for you. Consider it a reward for loyalty. Make sure you put in a favorable word."
The bald man fumbled the pouch open, his grin splitting ear to ear at the glittering sight within. "Of course, of course, Baron Mitch. I’ll make certain the boss takes an interest in your proposal."
"Excellent." The Baron’s smile sharpened. Then, almost as an afterthought, his voice dropped into something colder. "But before you scurry off... stay behind. Once I’m finished with this one, I want you to dispose of him. The new King has forbidden trafficking, and it’s driving me mad watching my colleagues rot in cells over worthless humans. I won’t share their fate."
"As long as the tea and sweets are good, we will stay for a long time," said the bald man as he laughed while the maid showed them the way toward the sitting room.
Cassius and Arabella glanced at each other and as the baron walked inside his bedroom, they followed behind him before the door was closed. The Baron appeared so eager as he made his way toward his large bed. His clammy hands pressed and rubbed against each other as he loosened the bright purple robe that he loosely tied around his round stomach.
Overjoyed to see Xavier’s face that was still asleep once again, the baron stepped closer to the bedside, his laughter drenched with lust, "Good. Good. Young men like you is always the best for my appetite."
Arabella winced in disgust, unable to hold back and stepped forward to pull the baron away from Xavier. No matter how odd Xavier was, she didn’t want to see him be assaulted by the depraved Baron. When her fingers was about to reach the baron, suddenly Cassius pulled her backward, startling her.
A small voice slipped from her mouth, causing the baron to turn around and frown, "I think I heard something..."
"Why?" she questioned in a small voice and Cassius nudged his chin toward the unconscious Xavier.
"He’s awake."
Awake?
Arabella studied Xavier even closer and couldn’t tell what have changed or whether Xavier had woken up.
The Baron himself was still looking all around him, staring at the walls and the furnitures that shouldn’t be able to let out the sound that sounded like the girl’s yelp he had heard earlier. After waiting for the noise to echo again, the baron brushed aside the idea that he heard the noise and went to quickly eat the prey on his bed.
Before her head had turned around, a pair of hand had wrapped around his neck and pulled him backward to the bed, shaking the wooden foundation which caused for the canopy on the bed to fall and covered the two figures.
Worried, Arabella walked in closer when Cassius’s hands suddenly raised in front of her and a sharp clank resounded in the room. Right beside her eyes, she saw a sharp pair of nails that had clashed to Cassius’s signature black sword, causing for sparks to fly which stunned her enough for the invisibility magic she had used to disappear in a blink.
When their eyes met, Xavier’s red eyes were still in a daze, only fierce with anger to defeat the person who was about to take advantage of him and perhaps thinking that they were also a part of Baron’s men, he was ready to attack them.
"You," Arabella muttered when she saw Xavier’s face even closer and how his eyes were identical to Cassius’s if not for how those red gaze was lighter. "Cassius?"
Their faces... it’s as if Cassius had just teleported in front of her! There was a star wound on Xavier’s face, his facial expression was quite different with the lack of Cassius’s usual haughtiness and proud.
Upon hearing the name, Xavier moved backward in a shock. It was as if he had just killed the wrong person, his face turn extremely pale, his eyes wide in shock and confusion as he looked behind to Baron Mitch whose neck was bleeding but he wasn’t dead yet as his eyes were moving left and right, begging for help.
"You can’t kill people, can you?" Cassius spoke with ease which made Xavier to lower his guard for a moment.
"I- I don’t kill people."
"Really?" Cassius hummed and before Xavier could add more in defense, he felt a sharp elbow smacking his jaw, knocking his body so hard that in a split of second he was immediately thrown across the ground until his back hit the wall hard enough for Arabella to hear what sounded like a broken spine.
"But you dare to attack her," Cassius’s smile was gone. It turns out that when he saw what Xavier had dared to do to Arabella, red consumed his eyes and now his rage ran loose.
"Cassius, you can’t kill him!"
"I’ll just hit until I feel satisfied. Isn’t that good enough?" Cassius smiled and seeing her worried eyes, he smoothened her hair, "He won’t be dead by the time I’m done with him."
