Her outburst takes me by surprise for a few seconds. I had not expected her to go this route in her defense. “Enough with the caring mother act,” I snap in anger. I unwrap my legs from Cal’s waist. My yful mood has disappeared. I am pissed off at her and the audacity of her statements.

“You never cared about Rose. She was dumped into myp the day she bwas /bbrought home from the hospital. I raised her. I love her as a mother should love her child. I have taken care of her. I have protected her from you! She is mine, not yours,” I growl dangerously.

“Apologies, we just could not standby as she insulted you or your pup,” the older one says. “I have a pup of my own and one that I adopted after a rogue attack. Both of them are mine. It doesn’t matter to me that one is blood and the other is not. They are both my daughters.”
“Thank you,” I say with a smile. I am touched that they would defend me and my daughter,

“We’ll let them think about the answers. After all, some of them have had a taste of bwhat /bnot answering does. We’ll give them the night to think about that pain and prepare for more tomorrow Mark says pointedly as he res at those still locked up.
I nod bmy /bhead in defeat. I understand that we need to take a break ande backter. But I want

“Come on, bCal /bband /bI will take you for lunch,” Mark smiles to me.
