Transmigrated into Another Apocalyptic World (BL)
Chapter 258 - 257: Going to the Survivor’s camp
CHAPTER 258: CHAPTER 257: GOING TO THE SURVIVOR’S CAMP
After the accident with the zombie dogs, Luciel didn’t take any further actions in the next few days because all the situation could be solved by Dan’s team and the kids.
When Luciel looked at the map that Dan and the others had marked, they were nearly halfway to the north base.
He wasn’t familiar with the routes, so he had asked Dan and the others to plan their route back to the north base.
He also asked them to take the shortest route if possible, so even though they were always taking a break in the afternoon because of the weather, they were still able to travel far.
They only needed to travel for another week before they could finally arrive at the north base.
He hadn’t visited the space he shared with Treyton since they started traveling, so the only messages he had read were from Treyton—one indicating their location and another saying they had started traveling back to the North Base a day earlier than them.
If Treyton’s team hadn’t stopped traveling, they might be very near the north base already.
"Huh? Brother Dan and the others stopped?" Owen said and also stopped the car.
Luciel was currently sitting on the passenger’s seat while Owen was driving.
He had taught Owen how to drive in the past few days while he sat in the passenger’s seat to supervise and, of course, to drive if there was a problem.
Dan and the others were always leading in front of them, so Luciel and the kids didn’t encounter much trouble while following their car.
With Dan and the others in front, Luciel had time to teach Owen how to drive.
He began teaching Owen how to drive because, when he asked the kids if they were interested in driving, Owen showed the most interest.
When the other kids saw Owen start driving, they became more interested, but Luciel didn’t allow them to switch. He simply said that if they were also interested in driving, they could practice when they got back to the North Base.
He doesn’t have time to supervise a newbie one after another, as it would just be a hassle; that’s why he only chooses one of them to drive.
If he had to be bothered by all of them because of driving the car, then his purpose of teaching one of them to rest and relax wouldn’t be achieved.
Owen didn’t need to memorize a lot of driving rules and traffic rules because they weren’t of any use in the environment they were in, so Owen really just needed to know how to manipulate the car and drive steadily.
Owen also learned how to drive easily, so there’s no problem with letting him drive at all.
The road they were traveling also isn’t complicated, so Owen just needed to follow Dan and the others properly.
So, after Owen learned how to drive, Luciel would just always sit in the passenger’s seat so that he could deal with emergencies easily.
"Let’s wait and see why they stopped," Luciel said while looking at the car in front of them.
Luciel didn’t detect any danger around them, so Luciel could only wait for Dan and the others to come and inform them why they had stopped.
Dan and the others wouldn’t just stop suddenly if there’s nothing because it’s still early for their rest time.
Dan got out of their car, walked over to them, and said, "There’s a signboard that says there’s a survivor’s camp nearby. Should we go check it out?"
"Do you need something there?" Luciel asked back.
"Since it’s already near the afternoon we thought it’s better to stop over at the camp to gain more information and also exchange some food for some goods that we got along the way."
It’s increasingly difficult to look for food supplies because they were the things that people had been looting since the beginning of the apocalypse.
While they were traveling, even though they weren’t proactively looking for supplies. If they see something useful nearby, they would still get it.
Dan and the others didn’t manage to find a lot of food supplies, but they got a lot of cigarette packs with them a few days ago.
Those people who were accustomed to smoking would surely be willing to exchange something for cigarettes, especially if they had stocks.
So, it’s indeed a good thing to exchange it for some food that they needed.
"I see; then let’s go and check out the survivor’s camp nearby," Luciel said in agreement.
After he agreed, Dan went back to their car, and they began driving to go to the survivor’s camp.
After Dan left, Luciel gave warnings to Astrid and the others.
"As we are going to a survivor’s camp, you guys should prepare your weapons and always remain vigilant.
We still don’t know what the survivor’s camp is like, so you guys should be prepared."
Most bases, even the small bases like the small survivor’s camp they were going to visit, wouldn’t be outright hostile to visiting people or to people who go to their bases.
Most bases wouldn’t be hostile because they knew that people coming from different places had information from the places they came from.
So those people who needed information from others would get it from other people; they could also exchange it for resources, or they could just recruit them to the base they were in.
Those who established small bases were also the bases that would often pay attention to the people that were stopping by because they wanted to recruit stronger people to their bases.
So, going to a survivor’s camp wasn’t that dangerous, but of course they still had to prepare well in case of an emergency.
Luciel also agreed to go without saying any disagreement because with the strength of Dan’s team and with him around, they could surely go out of a small base alive even if they met danger.
After Astrid and the others heard what he said, they prepared their daggers with them.
Luciel also gave them smaller daggers a while ago, and they began hiding them in the boots that they were wearing.
Astrid, Bella, and Violet also began wearing thicker, loose clothes and wearing caps and masks to cover their faces.
Austin and Owen didn’t wear thicker clothes, but they also wore caps and masks to match the other three.
Only, Luciel didn’t do anything and was just looking outside.
The place they were in was obviously a rural area, as Luciel couldn’t see a lot of buildings.
Most of the buildings that they passed by were also not in good condition.
When they passed by the signboard that Dan mentioned, he saw that the address mentioned that the camp was located in a retreat center farther away.
If the apocalypse didn’t come, the rural area that looked peaceful was indeed ideal for a retreat center.
And if it was a retreat center ideal for larger groups, then it could surely accommodate more survivors to live in it.
However, the place they were in now was already just a week away from the north base.
So, there might only be a few people in the survivor’s camp because most of the people around were probably already in the north base.
The north base also proactively rescued a lot of people in the beginning, and the place they were in was just a week away from the north base, so the people who were probably in the survivors’ camp were people who were left behind or came after the rescue team of the north base.
They continued driving until they reached the entrance of the retreat center where the survivor’s camp is located.
Luciel looked around and saw that the walls at the entrance were made of half cement and half wood and iron sheets for house roofs.
It was obvious that the cement below was the original part of the retreat center, as it even has elegant designs.
There were only four people at the gate of the retreat center, and it was obvious that they were tasked to welcome people coming to their survivor’s camp.
Dan went out with Raffy and went to talk to those people guarding the camp.
Luciel noticed that the four people were really enthusiastic in inviting Dan and Raffy inside the retreat center.
Dan and Raffy went to talk to them before they went back to where they were.
"How is it?" Luciel asks as soon as Dan and Raffy stand near their car.
"This camp is indeed one of the small bases in the north, as they only had around 100-150 people.
According to them, if we only visited their camp and planned to go out after a day, then we wouldn’t need to pay anything.
There are also houses near the entrance with spacious parking lots in front, so we could use them for our stay for the time being," Dan said.
"Really?" Luciel said with some suspicion.
