CHAPTER 318: CHAPTER 318 EVERYTHING WENT DARK

Crash.

Blood sputtered from my lips, as the impact of colliding head-on with him sent us flying in opposite directions. My back slammed against the castle wall, and my eyes rolled to the back of my head, my body swayed slightly before regaining my consciousness again.

My chest tightened painfully. Cough. Cough. I sputtered out more blood.

’Why is it that now that when I’m in trouble you want to act up again?’

Zeir groaned, as he rose from the pile of dust he had been buried in. A trail of blood trickled down the side of his left face.

Staying further would mean disaster, so I pushed myself away from the wall hiding the grimace on my face.

I tilted my head slightly, walking around in circles, mirroring Zeir’s movement.

"What do you want from me?" I asked, my eyes observing every single movement he made.

"Your powers." He answered curtly.

"My powers? Why?"

"Because I need to save you." Zeir sighed, before his eyes darkened again. "All that we have done is to protect you. Now that your powers have awakened, there is no more time to waste."

"Why do you want to protect me? Or are you just greedy for power?" My eyes darkened, the earth tilting slightly beneath me.

"Why can’t you believe me?! I’m going to great lengths to make you survive, to rid you of this burden and you think I want the powers for myself?!" Blue energy surrounded Zeir, his eyes burning a bright shade of blue. His silver white hair floated in the air.

"If what you say is true, why fight with me when you can talk to me?" I spat out. Seeing that the conversation was dragging on for too long, I snapped my finger and a portal opened behind me.

I turned around and jumped inside, but groaned in pain when the entrance was blocked by an invisible wall.

Zeir’s footsteps echoed behind me. "You can’t escape, no matter how powerful you are. This magic was formed by the first Chosen." He said slowly, his voice detached, and his gaze pierced through my back.

I let out a laugh. "Let me go, and I’ll never appear in front of you again."

"I’m afraid I can’t do that." Before the blink of an eye, he was already standing before me. His palm connected to my chest, and a wave of light sliced through the air as the force made me stumble back.

Consumed with rage, I lifted my hand, and a gold light floated in a single thread out of my chest forming into a ball.

Zeir’s eyes widened in horror when he noticed what I was about to do.

"Aeris sto..." Before he could finish his words, a loud blast sliced through the air.

The earth trembled, cracks formed around the land, and some buildings collapsed, the force sent Zeir flying crashing through walls. Rhydian quickly took to the sky, muttering ancient fae magic, a barrier formed around the castle and the houses nearby.

A wild wind swirled around me, and I felt my energy dissipating every passing second. I weakly flicked my finger, and a portal formed before me, the wall blocking the entrance cracked before shattering like glass.

I dragged my body towards the portal, every step was excruciating for my body. ’Just one step... just one step.’ I muttered.

Before I could step into the portal a cold steel pierced through my back. When I looked down, a metal protrusion was sticking out of my chest.

I slowly turned around, and my breath halted in my throat. Before me stood my mother, her eyes burned with conviction, her cheeks were wet with tears.

"Why..." the words died in my throat as I felt the world tilt.

Before I could touch the ground, a pair of hands held me, my mother hovered above me, as she pulled her chest sobbing. "Don’t worry my dear, everything will be alright. Mother will make sure you are safe." She cupped my face so tenderly, her eyes showing loving emotions.

It was the first time my mother had looked at me like this. I wondered, was she delusional? How does driving a sword through my chest save me?

My mind wandered to Damon, how would he feel when he learnt that I’m gone? Will he blame me? Or will he blame himself? I wondered.

Seeing my eyes becoming dull, my mother’s panicked voice echoed in my ears, distorting into muffled noise. "Zeir, come help her. Zeir... she’s dying..."

My eyes shut closed, and a tear trickled down my cheeks. ’I’m sorry Damon, and it’s such a shame I could never fulfil all of my wishes.’

Then everything went silent and dark.

...

(Damon POV)

A strange sense of foreboding nestled in my chest the moment I stepped out of the door.

"Alpha, the Queen sent words that they are under attack and they need your help." the guard said as he walked behind me.

My ears picked up Ember’s words but it was muffled and I couldn’t hear a thing.

Beowulf prowled in my head, feeling restless. I wanted to turn around and go back to Ember, and I wanted to make everything clear to her, that I didn’t hurt her mother.

But why would Rhydian claim that I hurt her mother? My brows furrowed deeply. Something about all of these seemed fishy.

"Damon let’s go to Ember, we can check on the witches after we make sure she’s fine," Beowulf said worriedly.

The guard led me outside the castle, where a group of witches stood before me, Alaric and Theo arrived soon after.

"Alpha." The witches bowed.

"What is the situation?" I asked half mindedly, my mind wouldn’t stop going back to Ember.

"The corrupted witches have launched a full-scale war on us. We need your support." One of them said.

I stare at them with a calculating expression. Who knows if this is just a tactic for Alpha Lucas to launch an attack on us? I can’t give away a large number of my men.

"I can’t go with you, but I’ll give some of my men," I said with a final tone, leaving no place for discussion.

I needed to end the conversation as quickly as possible so I could head back to Ember. My eyes fell on the bracelet on my hand, her emotions were bitter and confused.
