CHAPTER 36: CHAPTER 36 BE MY MATE, WILL YOU?

I took the meat like I was a flash. I took a mouthful bite from the meat, which remained nothing but bone and a little flesh on it. As I chewed on it, it was exactly how I had anticipated it—the taste was heavenly, rich, and mouthwatering.

"You like it?" the voice came again.

’Oh,’ that was when I realized that I hadn’t thanked the person yet. I raised my head, only to find the little boy I had saved earlier. I smiled nervously at him. ’Damn it, he just watched me eat like a hungry vulture!’

A warm pink hue crept onto my cheeks. "Thank you for the meat, it tastes delicious."

"I’m glad you like it. I can bring you more if you want," he beamed at me.

That was a good offer. Could I refuse such a tempting offer? I closed my eyes, inhaling deeply. "No, you shouldn’t. I believe that was your piece you handed to me. And besides, the whole meat must belong to someone."

The boy’s eyes drooped. "It’s true, the meat belongs to my mother, and the piece I gave to you belonged to me," he began to scratch his head nervously. "But I just wanted to thank you for saving me earlier. I might be dead now if not for you."

Seeing how cute he looked right now, I couldn’t help but ruffle his hair. "Your gratitude is well received by this lady here," I pointed playfully at myself, which made him chuckle at me.

"You look so pretty. Will you be my mate?" he asked with sparkling eyes.

"Oh my goodness, I can’t believe I’ve been asked out by a kid." I averted my gaze, my palm flying to my lips as I laughed at myself.

"You don’t want to?" his voice turned serious. His eyes widened before squinting into a serious look.

I couldn’t bring myself to say anything to him. How could I break the little heart of the cute little boy?

I ruffled his head again. But he pulled back.

"I can hunt rabbit every day for you," he began, his voice growing louder as he stood proudly with his chest out. "If you become my mate, you won’t ever be hungry. And in a few years’ time, I will be tall like the Alpha, and then I will be able to provide more for you."

’Okay, I think he’s being serious.’ I stared down at the rabbit bone in my hand, but then a little finger tilted my head up. My eyes flashed with surprise at the audacity of the little boy.

"Say yes to me. I’m very handsome, and in a few years’ time, I will be the most handsome man you have ever seen. If you say no, don’t blame me when other females are fawning over me. I’m giving you special treatment now. Be my mate, will you?"

This was the most absurd way I have ever heard a guy propose to a lady. My lips trembled as I tried to hold back my laugh. His wavy golden-brown hair and his light brown eyes really made him stand out from most kids—he did look handsome.

"I..." Before I could say anything, I saw him elevated, his legs dangling midair. I wanted to laugh at his helpless state, but my laugh died down when I saw Damon was the one raising him up by the collar of his shirt.

"Let go of me!" the boy yelled angrily, his cheeks turning red from embarrassment.

"You want to take my pet as your mate?" came Damon’s irritated voice, his eyes glinting with amusement.

"Yes, what’s wrong with that?" he fired back.

Damon put him down before squatting to his level, his hands pressing on the little boy’s shoulders. The boy’s eyes widened the moment he saw the irritated look on Damon’s face.

"You want to fight with me over my pet?"

He looked fearful at first, but then he glanced at me. His eyes hardened with bravery. He nodded his head at him.

The other werewolves who were watching the event unfold couldn’t help but chuckle at the little boy’s naivety.

A deep growl reverberated from Damon’s chest. The boy who had been standing tall and mighty immediately fell to his knees, baring his head in submission.

"You lose. Now scram."

He raised his head. This time the mask of bravery had already fallen off his face. Then he glanced back at me.

"She hasn’t answered me yet," he pointed his little finger at me.

Damon closed his eyes as if he was trying to hold back his emotions. When they opened again, it looked like he was about to snap the little boy’s neck.

Meanwhile, I was just watching in amusement. My cheeks burned with embarrassment as I could feel the eyes of the other werewolves on me.

Damon rose up, his hand grabbing the boy by his shirt, lifting him again. The boy’s legs dangled in the air, then Damon carried him away.

Seeing that he had been thrown out.

"Remember me! My name is Malfoy. I’ll come back for you when I grow taller!" His words became distant—more and more—until I couldn’t hear him anymore.

I chuckled, seeing them fight over me. ’Wait, does this mean Damon is jealous over a child?’ I chuckled again. "Malfoy," I muttered under my breath before taking a small bite of the remaining meat on the bone.

Just then, suddenly, I felt the air getting tense. I looked around me, and that was when I found the eyes that were glaring daggers at me.

My body tensed when I saw her getting up and walking toward me.

"You must be Ember," she said with a smile on her face, but it didn’t reach her eyes.

I whimpered as my hands clenched tight, my neck baring in submission. ’I can’t believe this bitch is using her alpha voice on me.’ I bit my lips as anger washed through me.
