Tang Fei turned at that moment and saw their little exchange, her gaze locking with Huo Ting Cheng’s. He nodded once, and that was enough for her to know that whatever she wanted to do for these children, he would back her up completely.

For the first time in a long while, the orphanage compound felt a little less lonely.

The building, although modest, radiated warmth, and the sound of distant laughter echoed faintly around the compound as they mingled with the kids.

"Master, Madam, the administrator is waiting for you in her office, she is free now..." Huo Qi said, holding the entrance door open for them to get in while they left the kids with other kids, the orphanage worker was there distributing everything they brought over and storing other things away.

Inside the orphanage office, a kindly middle-aged woman stood up with a smile the moment they entered. Her face was lined with fatigue but softened by genuine joy.

"Mr. and Mrs. Huo, thank you so much for coming to our place, we are humbled!" she greeted them warmly, bowing slightly.

Tang Fei stepped forward with a gentle smile getting closer, before returning the bow slightly out of respect. "Please, just call me Tang Fei. We are the ones who are grateful to be here."

Huo Ting Cheng gave a polite nod; his usual aloof demeanor softened around the edges slightly, but his face was still frigid. "We are glad to help however we can. The children... they deserve better."

The administrator’s eyes glistened slightly as she gestured for them to take a seat; she was seeing them for the first time face to face party from magazines where Huo Ting Cheng’s face was always painted. "We are doing our best, but resources are always stretched thin because of the many children we have around here. Your visit alone has meant a great deal to us, some of these children haven’t smiled like that in weeks."

Tang Fei’s heart squeezed at those words, feeling emphatic. "We brought some supplies, and my husband made a few calls here and there. One of his friends runs a hospital, he will be willing to send a doctor and a nurse once a week to check on the kids."

The woman blinked, clearly overwhelmed. "That would be... incredible. Truly. I don’t know what to say!"

Huo Ting Cheng sat beside Tang Fei, glancing sideways at her with a look that lingered just a moment too long.

This was the side of her he missed most, the woman who fought quietly for others, not with ambition, but with love, care, and genuine kindness without receiving anything back.

"We will also make monthly contributions so that the place can be sustained," he added. "My assistant will work out the details with you later on."

"T-That’s..." The woman covered her mouth for a moment, composing herself. "Thank you so much. Thank you both." She was truly surprised by this visit.

Tang Fei looked around the modest office, worn walls, an old desk, and scattered files. This place was doing everything it could with so little to sustain itself, but what were the government’s arrangements on such matters? "Are you understaffed?"

The woman nodded with a sigh echoing from her mouth. "Yes. Many of our volunteers left after the last funding cuts and then, we don’t have much that we could pay more workers. Some of the older kids help where they can, but it’s not the same. I want them to enjoy being kids but it isn’t an easy task."

Tang Fei’s eyes narrowed thoughtfully. "Let me look into something. I might know a few people who would love to volunteer, like college students and maybe even part-time workers who could be around this area. We will figure something out. Also, if you have talented kids, I don’t mind nurturing them up, and probably, their lives could be shaped!" Yes, talent was something that could lift someone’s status faster.

The woman’s voice trembled slightly, tears clouding her eyes with happiness. "I don’t know how to repay you..."

"You don’t have to," Tang Fei said softly. "Just keep doing what you do. Kindness overturns everything. Also, my husband can see if this place can be renovated and slightly advanced." The space was small, but if they built a storey house, it would at least host more kids and leave some spacious ground for the kids to play around.

"Thank you so much... Thank you..." They shook their hands gratefully.

As they stood up to leave the office, Tang Fei placed a hand gently on the administrator’s shoulder, comforting her and, at the same time, motivating her for the good work. "We will be back. And visit the place regularly."

The woman gave a watery smile. "You have no idea what that means to us." She was grateful that someone was recognising the place and that it would get what it deserved.

"It’s okay..."

Outside, the sun had dipped lower, casting a soft golden glow over the orphanage courtyard.

The kids were still laughing, playing with their new toys, and a few of them clung to Feihao as if they had known her forever.

Xu Xie and Twilight seemed to be messing around with some girls while Qin Xinyu stood aside. He didn’t know how to handle kids.

Tang Fei stepped beside Huo Ting Cheng, folding her arms as she watched the scene in quiet satisfaction. "It’s nice to be a kid! Being naive would save them from a lot." They looked happy playing around with her kids. You couldn’t tell they had their own problems riddling them.

Her gaze shifted to him, something tender in her eyes. "Probably because this is the kind of world I wish existed more. I wish we could be more responsible as adults..."

A long pause stretched between them, comfortable and warm. They didn’t need to say much but they understood each other’s feelings completely.
