CHAPTER 293: CHAPTER 293; I DON’T CARE WHO YOU ARE...
Tinghao spoke quietly, almost to himself. "Then... all the things we have heard... maybe they are just rumors? Right?"
Mrs. Xu nodded, a faint sadness in her eyes. "Exactly. There’s always more to a person than what’s whispered behind their back. Even your mother... even Huo Ting Cheng... they are more complicated than any story anyone tells."
Qin Xinyu, still observing silently, added softly, "So... sometimes we have to separate the truth from what we hear. Even if it’s hard."
Zhihao exhaled slowly, trying to make sense of it all. "I... I guess I understand. Maybe the past isn’t as simple as it seemed."
Mrs. Xu reached over, gently resting her hand on his shoulder. "That’s right. And one day, you’ll see for yourselves. What matters most isn’t the rumors or the stories... It’s the choices people make today, and the love and courage they carry forward."
Minghao, Feihao, Tinghao, and Zhihao looked at each other, a quiet understanding passing between them. Even with the shadows of the past lingering, Mrs. Xu’s words offered a small, steady light, a guide to navigating the complicated truths of the family they loved.
But Mrs Xu felt there was something more to what Zhihao spoke about. Back then, they just heard they were hurt and if it was true like that, then it meant they had solved their differences to be living under one roof harmoniously.
They left the kids to chat and watch the TV as Mrs Xu held Mr Xu’s hand and dragged him out of the house onto the pavement, heading over to the parking lot where Huo Ting Cheng was.
Outside, the night air was cool against Mrs. Xu’s face. The faint hum of the city surrounded them as she guided Mr. Xu across the pavement toward the sleek black car parked under the streetlight.
Huo Ting Cheng was seated inside, papers and a tablet spread across his lap, still deep in the middle of a meeting he was having a few minutes past. His dark blue eyes flicked briefly toward Mrs. Xu and Mr. Xu as they approached, expression unreadable, but he made no move to exit the vehicle.
The moment she got closer to the car, Mrs. Xu straightened, her voice firm despite the night air. "Huo Ting Cheng, we need a word. It’s about the past... about Tang Fei"
Huo Ting Cheng didn’t look up immediately, scrolling through the documents on his tablet. "I’m in the middle of something important," he said evenly, his tone calm but carrying an edge. "If it’s urgent, make it brief."
Mrs. Xu didn’t waver at all, "We need to talk," she said firmly, her grip on Mr. Xu’s hand tightening slightly. "About the past... about what really happened between you and Tang Fei."
Huo Ting Cheng’s gaze flickered, a subtle tension in his posture, but his tone remained measured, "Nothing happened!"
Mr. Xu finally spoke, his voice low but firm, "But there are rumors, stories that could taint kids’ understanding of their mother. We want clarity, not just for her sake, but for the family’s."
Huo Ting Cheng exited the meeting and turned his attention fully to them, "What are you insinuating?"
Huo Ting Cheng finally set his tablet aside, the faint glow of the streetlight reflecting off the dark surface of the car.
His posture was rigid, controlled, yet there was an unmistakable weight in his gaze as he looked at Mrs. Xu and Mr. Xu.
Mrs. Xu took a steadying breath. "We are not here to accuse or blame anyone. But the children... they have heard things about their mother that are unsettling... About her past, about you two. Some of it doesn’t add up, and they are confused. So we need the truth, from you."
"Which truth are you talking about? Why don’t I get you?" Huo Ting Cheng coldly gazed at them.
"About Tang Fei getting seriously injured and you staying in a coma for a long time, she had caused everything because of betrayal. I know my girl, she can’t be a betrayer. Someone must be spreading rumours.." Mrs Xu didn’t believe it at all.
Huo Ting Cheng turned around and eyed Huo Qi, who stood there nervously; this guy didn’t know how to keep his mouth shut. The kids probably heard from him at one point, they weren’t as naive as anyone could think of.
"Nothing of that sort happened, it never happened and it’s just stories, I will talk to the kids!" With all the seriousness, he wrapped up the conversation without any loop to maneuver. Some secrets were for him to be completely buried with.
"Huo Ting Cheng...." Mr Xu could see the guy wasn’t being honest with them.
"Go back inside, if you catch a cold, my wife is gonna blame me for it..." Could they think they could get any information from Huo Ting Cheng? From him? Were they dreaming?
Mrs. Xu hesitated, her eyes narrowing as she studied Huo Ting Cheng’s unreadable expression. "Huo Ting Cheng... we are not asking for some gossip, we are asking for the truth. The children deserve it, they deserve to know what truly it’s."
Huo Ting Cheng’s gaze remained steady, dark, and calm, but there was a subtle edge of impatience laced beneath it. "Huo Qi, escort them back into the house and forget you heard anything of that sort. If anything happens to Tang Fei, I will destroy this entire family. I don’t care...."
Mrs. Xu stiffened, her lips pressing into a thin line with nervousness. "You think you can silence us with threats? We have every right to ask.... What is it that you can’t say? You are the one who’s spreading rumours!"
Huo Ting Cheng’s mood shifted instantly and you could feel his murderous aura. His aura turned sharp, suffocating, as though the air itself froze around them.
His voice, low and measured, carried lethal weight, "Rights?" He let the word hang in the air, his gaze cutting through them. "I don’t care who you are. If not for Tang Fei, you would already be corpses at my feet. Don’t mistake my restraint for weakness, you have no place questioning me... How dare you?"
