Transmigration Into A Novel: Save The Second Male Lead
Chapter 48: Huo Yan Is In Danger I
CHAPTER 48: CHAPTER 48: HUO YAN IS IN DANGER I
After saying a few words to Yue Ning, Huo Feng went upstairs.
Yun Li, on the other hand, immediately slid into a seat beside Yue Ning.
"He seems quite different from the rumors. And also..." She paused, looking around. "...he doesn’t seem to like Yue Chen. Do you think he got enlightened?"
Yue Ning pursed her lips, and before long she burst into laughter.
"You are crazy." Yue Ning laughed loudly while dabbing her eyes. She laughed till tears fell from her eyes.
Yun Li rolled her eyes. "I am not crazy. I am just saying what I see. He seems like a whipped husband trying to win brownie points." She exaggerated.
Yue Ning laughed loudly, but then frowned.
Yun Li noticed the abrupt change in her expression. So she asked worriedly, "why do you have a frown on your face?"
"Nothing. It’s just quite... late. Huo Yan should have arrived."
Confusion marred Yun Li’s face. "Who is Huo Yan?" She asked.
Yue Ning sighed. "My Sister-in-law. She’s a sweet soul."
’Host, I sense something fishy. Why don’t you try giving her a call?’ The System cut in, panic laced in her voice.
Yue Ning didn’t need her reminder. She would have done that without someone reminding her.
"Give her a call. She might be busy, and might not have had the chance to let you know." Yun Li suggested.
Yue Ning suppressed the fear in her heart as she dialed Huo Yan’s number.
The phone rang for a long time, but there was no response..
Yue Ning’s brows creased. Huo Yan wasn’t the type to not answer her calls. Even if she was busy, she would pick up the call and inform you that she was busy.
Seeing her furrowed brows, Yun Li sighed. "She didn’t pick up?"
Yue Ning shook her head with her eyes fixated on her phone.
"Try it again."
Yue Ning tried calling her number once again. But the result was the same.
Enduring the pain in her leg, Yue Ning rose to her feet. Yun Li immediately rushed to steady her.
"Huo Yan is in trouble, I can feel it." Yue Ning’s voice trembled.
"I have to save her." Yue Ning continually muttered as she tried walking forward. But she couldn’t move as she struggled in Yun Li’s arms.
"Yun Li, let me go! I have to save her!" Yue Ning exclaimed agitatedly.
Yun Li’s brows furrowed. "And what then? You can barely stand on your own feet. Do you plan to collapse halfway and make me save two people instead of one?" Her voice was sharp, but her eyes glistened with worry.
"Can’t you understand? Xiao Yan is in trouble, and I need to save her." Yue Ning protested, her voice trembling.
For a second, Yun Li froze—her heart ached at the desperation in Yue Ning’s tone. Then, with a dramatic huff, she let go of her. "Fine. Go then. Be the hero. Don’t mind your leg, don’t mind your pain. Just go."
Yue Ning almost fell when Yun Li left her, but she was quick to steady herself. She looked at Yun Li with pursed lips and tears in her eyes.
"Aren’t you leaving? Didn’t you want to save her? I’ve let you go, so march out that door." Yun Li gestured grandly, though her throat tightened with fury and anxiety.
The servants present all had their heads bowed, unable to take in the disheartening scene.
"She’s not safe. I really need to save her," Yue Ning bit her lips.
Yun Li exhaled shakily and guided her back into the seat. This time, her voice softened. "I know. I know, Ning Ning. And you’re not wrong to worry. But rushing like this won’t help her. Rather, it’ll destroy you and her. If you fall, you won’t be able to save anyone."
"What is going on here?"
Huo Feng’s deep voice resounded through the hall as he descended the stairs. His expression was composed, but the weight in his tone silenced the room.
Yun Li let out a relieved sigh. "Good thing you’re here," she murmured as she rose to her feet. "She is being stubborn."
Huo Feng’s brows knitted faintly when he saw the tear stains on Yue Ning’s cheeks. A servant had already reported her restlessness, but he hadn’t expected this. He crossed the distance in a few strides and crouched slightly to meet her eyes.
"What’s wrong?" His voice was steady, neither harsh nor indulgent, just carrying quiet authority. "Tell me."
Yue Ning swallowed as she blinked at him.
"H-huo Yan, she..." She stammered.
Huo Feng held her as he calmly said. "Take a deep breath and speak." His words were barely a whisper, but it was enough to bring peace into her heart.
Exhaling heavily, Yue Ning said. "I feel Huo Yan is in trouble. It’s already getting late, and she is not yet back. Besides, she isn’t the type to not pick her calls. She would have also dropped a message if she would be late."
"Mr. Huo, I feel restless. I feel she needs our help." Yue Ning finished, her face showing clearly her distress.
Huo Feng’s brows furrowed. Now that he thought about her words, it was a little late. Huo Yan should have been back.
"Mr. Huo, we have to save her. Nothing must happen to her."
Yun Li stood at one corner, and sighed. As expected, Yue Ning still cared more about people than herself... she mused to herself.
Huo Feng’s eyes narrowed slightly at her words. He didn’t dismiss them. He never dismissed such instincts, especially when it came to family.
"Stay here," he instructed in his steady tone, though his gaze lingered on her longer than necessary. But she shook her head.
She couldn’t stay calm. Huo Feng gave her a reassuring nod, before gesturing to Yun Li to hold her.
Then he straightened, his presence carrying authority that hushed even the anxious whispers of the servants.
Before he could give further orders, a servant suddenly rushed into the hall, face pale. He bowed hastily before speaking, voice trembling.
"Sir, the driver just returned." He announced shakily.
Huo Feng’s sharp gaze landed on him. "Returned? Without Huo Yan?" He questioned.
The servant swallowed. "Y-yes, sir. He said... he dropped Miss Huo off near the outskirts to handle something quickly."
"But when he returned to pick her up, she was gone. The car is empty. He said he looked everywhere, but there was no trace of her."
She reported. She hated to be the bearer of such horrible news.
The hall fell into a suffocating silence.
Yue Ning’s heart pounded violently in her chest. Yun Li’s expression turned grim instantly.
Huo Feng’s expression didn’t change much, but the air around him seemed to drop several degrees.
"Gone?" His voice was low, almost dangerous. "You’re saying my sister vanished into thin air?"
The servant dropped to his knees.
Yue Ning’s lips quivered. "Mr. Huo..."
Huo Feng turned, his sharp eyes flickering with an unreadable glint. "Prepare the car. We’re going after her."
