CHAPTER 50: CHAPTER 50: HUO YAN IS IN DANGER III

Huo Feng’s eyes swept the car’s interior every movement of his was deliberate.

Then, beneath the driver’s seat, something caught his eyes. It was flashy, causing his brows to furrow.

He reached down and pulled out a jade hairpin inlaid with silver. It was the very one he had given to Huo Yan last spring.

But it wasn’t just the hairpin. It was what was wrapped around the hairpin.

Wrapped tightly around it was a strip of white cloth, and written across the fabric in jagged red strokes were four words:

"Catch us if you can." It was utter provocation.

The driver’s legs buckled. "Y-young Master..." His face was deathly pale as he continued to swallow.

Huo Feng’s grip on the hairpin tightened until blood welled in his palm. His expression remained unreadable, but his eyes burned with a fury that made him unapproachable.

Whoever dared touch his sister hadn’t just taken her—they had declared war.

Huo Feng rose to his feet, his palms were clenches into fists. His gaze was deep and dark as he looked at the starless sky.

Before long, Ah Si returned.

"Boss, it is just as the owner said. There is a van heading down south."

Huo Feng gave a hum of acknowledgement before handing him the hairpin.

With a look of confusion, Ah Si received it. "What is this..." He was unable to complete his statement when he saw what was in his hands. He was in disbelief, and his face pulled into a frown.

"Boss, they are clearly provoking you." He seethed, fury evident in his voice.

"I am aware of this. Get into the car, we are chasing after that van." Huo Feng instructed.

Huo Feng and Ah Si were together in a car, the driver drove in another car.

Huo Feng had tried to convince him to go home, but he declined. He couldn’t be blamed. He said he felt guilty about Huo Yan’s disappearance, so he offered to help to the best of his abilities. Although, he was aware he couldn’t do much.

Huo Feng’s expression was pulled into a tight frown. He was already planning a million ways to deal with the kidnappers.

He was also aware that they were not working on their own accord. He only needed to find out who was behind them.

The cars sped through the dark stretch of the road, revving engines cutting the silence of the night. Inside, Huo Feng’s grip on the wheel was unyielding, his eyes fixed straight ahead.

Ah Si leaned forward, watching the road. "Boss, that’s the van," he pointed out.

"I see it." Huo Feng pressed harder on the accelerator. His voice was steady, but his jaw was tight. "She must be inside."

The van suddenly slowed down. Ah Si’s brows furrowed. "Did they notice us following?"

Huo Feng didn’t answer. His only response was to move the car forward in an attempt to close the gap.

All of a sudden, the van stopped. Huo Feng and Ah Si exchanged glances as they wondered what was going on.

"Have they discovered that we are following after them?" Ah Si questioned as the car slowed down.

Huo Feng didn’t give an answer. It would be better if that was the case... they should surrender without a fight.

Soon, Huo Feng’s car stopped just a few distance away from the van.

Without waiting for Ah Si, he stepped out of the car. Ah Si hurriedly followed after him.

Huo Feng brows furrowed as his eyes narrowed. He didn’t know why he felt anxious.

The van was parked crookedly by the roadside. Not a sound came from inside.

Huo Feng’s brows furrowed as he walked forward. He yanked the door open—only to be met with empty seats.

His expression darkened.

"They tricked us..." Ah Si muttered, his voice low.

Huo Feng’s jaw tightened, his hands clenching into fists. He had been too hasty. They were playing with him, and he had fallen for it.

Ah Si who was behind him swallowed. He could feel the chill coming from Huo Feng, and he knew that he was in an awful mood.

"Boss..." He called out tentatively.

Huo Feng closed his eyes tightly. He had been too hasty in his investigation, and missed out some blind spots. This was why they were able to make a fool.

He should have thought that they would not allow Huo Yan to be rescued so soon. For the first time, Huo Feng felt powerless.

He was at a loss on what to do, and he couldn’t help chiding himself. If he had cared for his sister a little bit, then maybe this situation wouldn’t have happened.

Ah Si had spent a lot of time with Huo Feng. He could tell at a glance what was going on in Huo Feng’s mind.

With a rare moment of intimacy, he held Huo Feng by his shoulders. "Boss, you shouldn’t blame yourself for her disappearance. Circumstances like this tend to happen, and we will not be able to stop it. The only thing we need to do now is investigate thoroughly and bring Young Miss Huo back home."

Huo Feng gave him a glance, and he breathed out shakily.

He thought about Yue Ning who was still injured and waiting for Huo Yan’s return, and he didn’t know how to save her.

He promised her that he would bring Huo Yan back home, but he was too late. He couldn’t imagine how Yue Ning would react. She adored his little sister so much.

"Let’s go home." Huo Feng could only resign to his face.

But before he left, something flashy caught his eyes. He stopped in his tracks before turning to look at the van.

His eyes sharpened, and he walked back to the van.

He picked up a necklace, and a mysterious glint flashed through his eyes.

"What is this, Boss?" Ah Si asked while staring at the necklace.

Huo Feng’s gaze was fixated on the necklace. "This belongs to Xiao Yan. I remember getting this necklace for her last birthday," Huo Feng paused as his gaze deepened on the van.

"She was here." He stated with strong conviction.

Ah Si was clearly startled as his gaze never left Huo Feng.

Huo Feng, on the other hand, held the necklace tightly. If Huo Yan was in this particular van, then it meant that someone had tipped them off so they had to change their plans.

But who could it be? Huo Feng analyzed the situation.

His eyes suddenly turned cold as he looked around. He couldn’t find the driver.

Seeing the expression on Huo Feng’s face, Ah Si understood that something was wrong.

"Boss, what’s the matter?"

"The driver." Huo Feng whispered which only succeeded in confusing Ah Si.

"The driver... he played us." Huo Feng’s voice was low, and laced with iciness.
