CHAPTER 64: CHAPTER 64: YUE NING IS CONFRONTED.

The next day, Huo Feng and Yue Ning returned to the villa. Meanwhile, Huo Yan went to college, still secretly protected by guards.

After they had freshened up, Yue Ning accompanied Huo Feng to the company. She carried a novel with her—not purely for enjoyment, she had to complete her tasks.

When their car pulled into the parking lot, the building seemed to come alive. Employees straightened in their seats, voices hushed in relief.

It had been days since their CEO last set foot in the office, and speculation had begun to run wild. Now, with Huo Feng’s return, order seemed to fall back into place.

His presence was sharp and commanding, but it was Yue Ning who drew lingering stares. She walked quietly beside him with her novel in hand, creating a contrasting appearance from Huo Feng’s cold presence.

As they disappeared under the gazes of the employees, a whisper broke out between the staff.

"Why do I feel like Young Madam is compatible with the CEO? They look so good together."

"I agree with you. Young Madam’s calm temperament matches the CEO’s cold temperament."

"You are right. Young Madam is also much better than Yue Chen."

The employees discussed among themselves.

Meanwhile, Yue Ning and Huo Feng walked into the office.

Yue Ning heaved a sigh as she walked in. "I didn’t realize that I would miss this place so much." She exhaled with a beautiful smile on her face.

Huo Feng chuckled at her silly actions.

"I already informed a few of my men to investigate the Yue couple, we should get some answers before the day runs out." Huo Feng informed her.

Yue Ning was stunned. He was quite fast. She thought to herself.

Seeing that Yue Ning was silent, he turned to her. "Why do you have such a stunned expression?"

"Well..." Yue Ning paused, and played with her fingers. "You were quite fast in your actions, so I was surprised."

"I can’t delay when it comes to your matter." Huo Feng subconsciously replied.

Yue Ning was stunned speechless. Huo Feng had no idea what he said. When he realized what he had said, it was too late. Yue Ning was always staring at him with a strange gaze.

’Host, I’m afraid he is far gone,’ the usually quiet system suddenly spoke up, teasing her in the process.

Yue Ning’s eyes blinked rapidly, her cheeks turned red before she quickly averted her gaze. She opened her novel, pretending to focus on the words on the page, although she hadn’t read a single line. She felt flustered.

Huo Feng cleared his throat lightly. He didn’t expect that he would utter such words. He quickly turned toward his desk to hide the crack in his composure.

He busied himself with a stack of files, but the faint curve at the corner of his lips betrayed him. He actually felt good.

"Don’t overthink it. I already promised to help you, so I have to do my best," he finally muttered, his tone deliberately flat, although he couldn’t believe his own words.

Yue Ning peeked at him from behind the book, her lips pressing into a thin smile. She didn’t argue further, but the system wasn’t done with her teasing.

’Far gone indeed. Look at him trying to cover up. Host, are you going to keep pretending you don’t notice?’

"Shut up," Yue Ning murmured under her breath, flipping a page she hadn’t actually read.

Huo Feng looked up at her, brows raising. "Did you say something?"

She froze, then quickly shook her head with an innocent smile. "No, nothing at all."

His gaze lingered on her a moment longer before he returned to his work.

Yue Ning had been sitting quietly in Huo Feng’s office, reading her novel while he reviewed documents. But after a while, she got bored, and set the book down.

"I’ll take a short walk," she said casually. "I haven’t properly looked around the company."

Huo Feng glanced at her but didn’t stop her. "Don’t go too far." His tone was indulgent to which they both didn’t realize.

With a small smile, she left the office with her heels clicking softly against the polished floor. She wasn’t aimless.

Rather, she wanted to get a sense of the company’s environment, and get to understand its structure.

It wasn’t long before she ran into Director Zhou in one of the corridors. He had a mild smile on his lips, but there was a calculating glint hidden in his eyes.

[A/N: He was the one who had a malicious look in his eyes the first day Yue Ning showed up at the company and helped Huo Feng with a major issue.]

"Young Madam," he greeted smoothly, his voice filled with courtesy that somehow felt too deliberate and insincere.

"I must say, it’s quite unusual seeing you roaming the company halls. Shouldn’t you be resting? These matters are hardly your concern."

His tone was polite, but Yue Ning could sense that he was far from being polite. Rather, there was a fine line drawn between where he thought she belonged and where she didn’t.

Yue Ning continued smiling softly as she tilted her head. "Resting? Director Zhou, am I to understand you believe my role here begins and ends with just sitting idly?"

The man stiffened almost imperceptibly. "Not at all. It is very simple. This is a company matter. The CEO—"

"The CEO is my husband." She interrupted his words, her gaze was sharp as she stared at him.

"If his burdens weigh him down, do you think I’ll sit quietly and look pretty? I may not hold a title here, but don’t mistake that for ignorance. It has been proven the few times I have been here " She finished, her sentence casually keeping him quiet.

The corner of Director Zhou’s mouth twitched, and his smile faltered.

"I’ve studied this company before, Director Zhou. I know the numbers, I know the projects. If there are cracks forming in the walls, believe me, I’ll see them even before you all." She let the words linger. Her posture was domineering while she continued looking at him.

For a moment, silence reigned between them. Then Yue Ning’s lips curved into a polite, graceful smile, as though the exchange had been nothing but cordial.

"Now, if you’ll excuse me," she said softly, stepping past him without glancing at him.

Director Zhou remained rooted in his spot, his hands tightening at his sides. That elegant smile of hers had sounded less like charm, and more like a warning. He knew he had to be wary of her.
