CHAPTER 65: CHAPTER 65:ACCIDENT? MAYBE NOT

Yue Ning didn’t care about what sort of impression she gave Director Zhou. She detested those who undermined her abilities the most.

It was the same in her original world. Her colleagues always dismissed her efforts, brushing off her contributions as luck or coincidence. Yet in reality, she had been one of the most hardworking people in the company.

’Host, you seem to be in a bad mood.’ The system cautiously asked. As it was bound to her, it could feel the irritation coursing through her.

"I am fine." Yue Ning said with a clipped tone. A minute later, she exhaled and admitted. "Actually, I’m not. I hate it when people undermine me. It irks me."

Yue Ning finally said what was on her mind. Her face was expressionless, but it was evident that anger was in her eyes.

’There is one thing you need to understand, Host.’ The system reminded her gently. "In this world, not everyone would like you. Being angry over irrelevant characters won’t do you any good.’ The system advised.

"I really want to listen to you." She paused, a dark look flashing through her eyes. "But how can I when they keep treating me like I don’t deserve to be here?" She asked. It was clear that Director Zhou’s words had struck a nerve.

The system remained silent. There was nothing left to say.

Yue Ning pursed her lips, her resolve already hardening. If Director Zhou thought she would be a meek and obedient wife who wasn’t worthy to stand by Huo Feng, then he was sorely mistaken.

Yue Ning wasn’t in any mood to explore the company anymore, so she returned to Huo Feng’s office.

Huo Feng was surprised to see her return so soon.

"Didn’t you want to explore the company? Why did you return so soon?" Unable to contain his curiosity, he probed.

Looking at Huo Feng, it felt like all her grievances had poured out.

Huo Feng noticed that she was about to cry, and he was stunned. What happened? He asked himself.

He rose from his chair, and walked to her.

"Why is your mood sour?" He crouched below just to see her lashes were wet. Frowning, he asked. "did something happen outside?"

Yue Ning looked at Huo Feng’s sincere gaze, and she had no idea when she told him everything that happened between her and Director Zhou. Perhaps because she felt his sincerity, she didn’t bother to hide anything from him.

Huo Feng’s expression darkened with each word. When she finished, his expression was cold and unreadable.

He chuckled darkly. "I didn’t know that Director Zhou was such a brave person. Who gave him the right to insult my people?"

Yue Ning’s heart skipped a bit at his statement. Did he just refer her to his people?

’Gosh, Host! Why are you so slow?’ The system groaned tiredly. ’I have been telling you that he is falling for you, but you keep denying it.’

For once, Yue Ning didn’t brush it off. She bit her lip, her mind unsettled by the weight of his words.

Huo Feng, however, wasn’t paying attention to her internal turmoil. His thoughts were already fixed on how best he could deal with Director Zhou.

"You don’t have to worry about him. I’ll deal with him soon enough. Luckily, I was investigating some directors, and I happened to find some dirt on him. I’ll avenge you."

Yue Ning nodded, comforted that she wasn’t alone.

The sound of a phone ringing disrupted the atmosphere between them.

"I think your phone is ringing." Yue Ning cleared her throat, and pointed out.

Huo Feng coughed slightly, before rising to his feet, and walked back to his desk.

He picked up the call. The person on the other end said a few words. Huo Feng’s expression changed instantly.

His grip on the phone tightened, and his knuckles turned pale. The sharp edge in his voice made Yue Ning’s chest tighten.

"Alright, I understand. I’ll be there soon." He said, and disconnected the call.

"What happened? Did something happen?" Yue Ning asked after sensing the change in his mood.

Huo Feng breathed out. "Grandmother fell down the stairs, and she is currently in the hospital."

"What?" Yue Ning was shocked. Old Madam Huo was still full of life before they left. How could she have fallen down the stairs.

"We should hurry to the hospital and see how grandmother is doing." Yue Ning suggested, rising to her feet, her earlier grievances momentarily forgotten.

Huo Feng nodded with a grim expression, grabbing his coat and hurriedly walking out of the office. Yue Ning also rushed after him, several thoughts playing in her mind.

She might have only met the Matriarch a few times, but she knew how much she meant to Huo Feng. He would be deeply rattled by this news. She could only hope that the Matriarch was fine.

The antiseptic smell of the hospital hit Yue Ning’s nose the moment they entered. Outside the operating theater, the Huo family gathered with tense faces.

Huo Feng walked towards them, his entire aura emanating coldness. Zhang Yuxiu subconsciously stiffened as a flash of guilt appeared in her eyes. Her hands twisted together, her gaze darting away the moment Huo Feng’s eyes swept over her.

Yue Ning noticed this, and her brows furrowed.

"System, doesn’t her actions seem a bit suspicious?" Yue Ning asked mentally.

’I am glad you noticed it. There is something fishy about her.’ The system commented, agreeing to her words.

"I get bad vibes around her. Could she be responsible for what happened today?" Yue Ning muttered to herself. If it was true, then she would make sure to bring the truth to light.

"How did she fall?"

Huo Feng’s deep and cold voice snapped her out of her thoughts.

Zhang Yuxiu swallowed.

"Cousin, nobody knows. We were only alarmed by her screams." Huo Mingjie was the one who replied.

Huo Feng scoffed, sweeping his cold gaze over the three.

"It seems Grandma isn’t safe with you people."

"What are you saying, Huo Feng?" Huo Hapieng was annoyed by his words. "It was an accident, nobody thought this would happen."

"You know in your hearts if it was truly an accident or not," Yue Ning sneered, speaking for the first time since they arrived.

The faces of all the members of the second branch darkened at Yue Ning’s words, especially Zhang Yuxiu.

Yue Ning’s sneer lingered in the air. Zhang Yuxiu’s fingers clenched so tightly her nails dug into her palms. She lowered her gaze, but the flicker of panic in her eyes didn’t escape Yue Ning’s notice.
