Transmigration Into A Novel: Save The Second Male Lead
Chapter 70: Grandma Huo Regains Consciousness
CHAPTER 70: CHAPTER 70: GRANDMA HUO REGAINS CONSCIOUSNESS
Yue Ning returned to the ward, feeling listless. The earlier encounter with the strange man was still on her mind.
Huo Feng noticed her strange expression, and a flicker of concern flashed across his face.
"What is wrong? Why do you have such an expression on your face?"
Yue Ning snapped out of her thoughts. She was silent for a while, deliberately if she should let him know about what she saw in the corridor.
Huo Feng’s brows furrowed, seeing that she didn’t give him an immediate reply.
"Is something bothering you?" He asked again.
"Yes," she admitted.
"What’s the matter?"
Yue Ning exhaled and told him everything she saw.
After she was done, a dark look appeared in his eyes spelling danger.
"I am quite afraid. Perhaps, you should ask your men to guard grandmother’s ward. I might be paranoid, but it’s better to be safe than sorry."
Huo Feng nodded, agreeing with her.
"I will do just as you have said." He paused. "My subordinates sent me a text message regarding your matter."
"My matter?" She tilted her head, and a look of confusion appeared in her eyes.
"Uhn." He brought out his phone from his pocket. "Regarding your identity."
’Host, you seem to have forgotten about your mission.’ The system’s voice resounded in her mind.
Yue Ning was stunned. It seemed she must have forgotten about this.
"How many days left?" She asked the system awkwardly.
’Five days. If you don’t complete the mission in five days, your points will be deducted.’ The system replied professionally.
Yue Ning played with the tip of her hair. She had to admit that this was by far the hardest mission she had to complete ever since she stepped into this novel world.
"Why do you seem so lost? What’s on your mind?" Huo Feng snapped his fingers.
Again, she broke out of her thoughts. She gave him a nervous smile.
"I was just wondering if I am actually ready to face the truth," she made up an excuse for her inattentiveness.
"No matter what the truth might be, I’ll always stand by your side. Don’t forget that," Huo Feng held her hands and assured her.
Yue Ning’s eyes filled with tears instantly. It felt good to have someone stand by you. She never had this feeling in her original world.
"Thank you. You have been such a huge help. I don’t know how to thank you enough." Yue Ning thanked him, wiping her tears which were about to fall.
"You do not need to thank me. I am your husband, aren’t I? And I have decided to be with you for eternity, so you shouldn’t thank me."
Yue Ning chuckled. "Is this some sort of confession?" She joked.
"I guess so. This is my confession to you."
"Ning Ning, I don’t know what’s happening to me. I just want to stay by your side. It’s frightening... but at the same time, I like it."
Huo Feng confessed seriously.
Yue Ning stared at him with wide eyes.
’Host, it seems he is confessing to you.’
"Shut up!" Yue Ning snapped mentally, though she was blushing, her face extremely red.
"Huo Feng... I..." She stammered, unable to say a word.
"You don’t need to say anything. I am also not sure about what this feeling is, but I know that we will be able to figure it out together." He said to her.
Yue Ning nodded. His words had caught her off guard, but she couldn’t deny that her insides warmed at his words.
"We should eat before the food gets cold," she changed the topic, preventing a weird atmosphere.
While she was serving the food, Old Madam Huo moved her fingers.
At first, it was just the fingers, then her eyelashes fluttered for a while.
Then she began coughing, gaining the attention of the duo.
"Grandmother," Huo Feng rushed to her side instantly.
Yue Ning came back to her senses, "I will go get the doctor." She said, and walked out of the ward.
Huo Feng held her hands, and for the first time, tears fell from his eyes.
"Grandmother," he called once more, but this time, he was more emotional.
"Why... do you... have tears... in your eyes?" Her voice was muffled as she struggled to speak.
"Don’t talk, Grandma. Save your strength," Huo Feng whispered.
Yue Ning came in with the doctor, and Huo Feng stepped back so he could check on her..
The doctor performed a series of checkups on her. He checked her heart rate, and asked some medical questions to which she responded, although she struggled with her speech.
Yue Ning and Huo Feng stood on the side and watched him carefully.
After a while, he looked at them with a smile. "Old Madam Huo has passed the critical stage, and she is very well. She only needs to remain under observation for the next forty-eight hours, and she can be discharged."
Yue Ning and Huo Feng simultaneously heaved a sigh of relief.
"Thank you, Doctor."
"If you need anything, I’ll be in my office." The doctor smiled at the couple before he walked out of the ward.
"Grandma, do you know how scared we were when we received the news? Don’t scare us like that again," Yue Ning stepped forward, and held the old lady’s hands.
"I am sorry if I scared both of you. But I didn’t mean to." Her speech was clear, but she coughed at the end.
Huo Feng immediately poured a glass of water for her. Yue Ning helped her drink it.
"Thank you," she said.
"Grandma, do you recall how you fell from the stairs?" Yue Ning asked.
Huo Feng perked his ears up as he waited for her reply.
"Fall?" Old Madam Huo sneered. "I didn’t fall. My good daughter-in-law pushed me down the stairs." Although she was lying on the bed, her aura didn’t diminish.
Yue Ning and Huo Feng exchanged glances. It was really done by Zhang Yuxiu.
Meanwhile, back at the ancestral mansion, Zhang was in her son’s room, panicking.
"Mom, pacing around won’t do anything. The old lady is still unconscious, and I have erased the evidence. Even if Huo Feng suspects you, he will never find out that you are behind it." Huo Mingjie was having a headache watching her pace.
You don’t understand, Mingjie. If she wakes up, I’m finished. She’ll tell Huo Feng everything."
"Why did you do it?" Huo Mingjie rubbed his forehead tirelessly. "Grandma is biased towards Huo Feng. You just placed Fei and I in a disadvantageous situation."
Zhang Yuxiu immediately sat on the bed. "I didn’t mean it. I lost control—I don’t even know what came over me."
Huo Mingjie was about to reply her when his phone buzzed. He removed it from his pocket, and read the text message.
His eyes turned cold. Zhang Yuxiu suddenly had a bad feeling.
"What is it, son?"
Huo Mingjie looked at his mother, and shook his head despondently. "Grandma has regained consciousness."
"What?" She rose to her feet instantly, her face turning as fear flashed through her eyes.
